An easy book to read and fairly short. Sublime storyline with a horrible protagonist who is extremely egotistical and barely sympathetic. Wouldn’t surprise if such character would be diagnosed by doctor or public eye as narcissistic or bipolar due to his extreme emotional swings. And the poor wife who tends to blame herself for the wrongdoings of her husband. It’s a terrifying reminder that despite someone looking amazing from afar, things might not be as they seem. Personally I also resonate with parts of all the characters personality which was both uncomfortable but interesting. I’d recommend it to people who want to read something that’s easy to digest and read, but still thoughtful and well-written. It’s clear that the book is nearly, what, a 100 years old or more, given both the beautiful language as well as some sad reminders of a slightly racist perception of colored people. But overall, a nice book! Not necessarily one that leaves you with a good feeling, but more so with something to ponder about, which I highly favor!
