Matthias Reynolds loves his life. He's starting to make it as a graphic artist at last and has a job he really likes at a local café that pays the bills. When a night out clubbing leads to an awkward morning after, he's embarrassed and more than ready to forget all about it. When Talani Enforcers show up at the café, he doesn't know what to make of it all as he's led away in restraints. Standing accused of crimes he struggles to understand, he finds he has an unexpected champion: the Talani warrior and war hero J'nah Quislin. J'nah knows that Matty is his. All J'nah has to do is keep Matty safe from those who engineered Matty's charges and sentencing. That, and get Matty to accept that universe always intended them to be together as one. All it requires is for Matty to return J'nah's devotion and offer his willing submission. Can Matty do it, with all that it will mean for his future?

Leona is a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense subgenres—especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her three cats, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer.
I received this book for free through Voracious Readers Only.
After a drunk hookup with his best friend that he doesn't remember, Matti is arrested by the Talani - because to the Talani Trade Alliance this is a crime. In their court he accepts a plea bargain, which means he will have to work for the Talani in whatever job they assign him until he hits retirement age. He is immediately shipped off Earth and assigned to J'nah Quislin as his mate. Without being informed of what is happening, Matti is medically transitioned to a Sacheri, the Taleni third gender, and his belly fitted with a sort of alien kangaroo pouch so he can bear J'nah's children. There's a lot of changes and alien customs for Matti to get used to, but luckily J'nah is patient and understanding.
Accused is a science fiction mpreg romance with plenty of alien weirdness. There is so much humour in this book, it had me laughing out loud at multiple occasions. I loved the characters, both alien and human. They all had very distinct voices. I loved how Matti and J'nah were both determined to make the best of this messed up situation they found themselves in. There were some confusingly similar names, but after a while I got used to them. The writing was good and the few typos were easily forgiven because this book was just so much fun to read.
A lighthearted romance full of warmth, cats, and aliens. I loved it! I will definitely be picking up the next part of this series when it comes out.
Very science fiction. Great for those who enjoy a sci-fi story. Of course there is a MM Romance and mpreg twist. A well told story with nicely done characters, fun and interesting side characters and an interesting storyline. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the genre.
Not usually into Mpreg and didn't notice this was one when I grabbed it from KU, however the story was good and engaging. Interesting beginning of a series and am looking forward to learning more about the cultures introduced as although this book had a good dose of sci-fi, it was mostly about the introducing the world(s) and characters.
This was an okay read. The description of the world being created was done nicely and seem rather interesting with the various alliances. But the story felt a bit dragged out and there were a few places where it was a bit hard to follow. Will read the next book in order to see how the story continues.
An interesting story, with great characters. The only thing that stopped it being a 5 star was Matty's reaction to what happened to him. He was just a bit to accepting of everything, instead of freaking out over his friends betrayal and the repercussions. Look forward to more in this series.
2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Leona Windwalker Accused (The Talani Trade Alliance #1) 1) I didn’t think I would like it, but by the time the Sachari element entered the story I was hooked. It ended up being an awesome read.
This story has a very interesting concept. The Talini, an alien race, has three sexes one of which has now disappeared due to biological warfare. They have learnt to alter other races bodies and DNA to produce substitutes for this sex so that they can produce children. The females like emus only lay the eggs then leave it to the others to raise the offspring. The male fertiles the egg after it is laid. The egg is then left to hatch after a short incubation at which time the third sex takes the resulting immature offspring into a marsupial like pouch to grow and ‘birth’ it. The male and the third sex, the sachari then raise the child to adulthood. Of course no human has ever been genetically altered before and thanks to a underground fraction who are not adverse to breaking the rules Matty is the first to have it happen to him. Yep very interesting indeed and that’s just for starters.
Blinding good read I was pulled into this with a WHOOSH and have literally just read it start to finish in a single sitting. Pacy, good characters, and with enough detail to build a believable future world with an alien trade alliance (and one that harbours a sinister secret, at that). The only thing that could have improved it is a keen-eyed editor. (The version I have contained rather too many typos and bits of odd grammar. Get the mechanics right and they're invisible, but get them even slightly wrong and they can be all too noticeable.) That said, I still really enjoyed this, it was really well written, and will immediately be looking to download the next in the series. (Oh yeah, how could I forget to mention - HOT HOT HOT sex scenes, brilliantly and convincingly written.)
Fascinating world and bio construction, not quite complete but enough to allow the readers' imagination to fill in. Earth humans and non-Earth biologically similar beings in a mixed society where good guys and bad guys are mixed into political and social intrigue, whether they end up in it knowingly and willingly, like the usual guv, mad scientist and political exponents, or unknowingly, unwillingly and guilelessly like the larger part of the population of both Earth and non-terrestrians. Personal traumas seem to be downplayed as the acceptance of the situation kicks in, yet off page maneuvering keeps things going. Although this book is basically a standalone for this story, it leads directly into the next with a cliffhanger.
I enjoyed the story. It had many of the alien MPreg elements typical for this genre but it was a bit more interesting with the third gender. It also explained the evolution of the Talani to help understand Matt's role in birthing the young and why the woman of there species does not have the same maternal instincts as humans.
There were a couple of name issue that caused a bit of confusion. Matt was called Jared once.
I wanted to read more and follow J'nel and his search for Duane as well as following Matt was his pregnancy progressed. I am hoping a second book follows soon.
Got this book as a freebie in exchange for an honest review.
Just loved the book and for a time at the beginning thought, not for me. The honourable j'nah purchases the wrongly accused matty as his mate and man to have his children with. The story has a different approach to the mpeg genre but different is good. How matty deals with the betrayal of his friend, how a simple misunderstanding and miscommunication from a spurned romantic encounter between two old friends can have devastating consequences for everyone involved yet end up as a HEA for two at least and me thinks more as the series goes on. Will read the next book eventually.
This was a fun and creative book. I liked it wasn't just the usual vaguely explained or hand-wavy mpreg, that the aliens really did have a VERY different way of doing things. I liked their dynamic, I liked he simply wasn't stockholmed into it, that his mate realized what happened was horrible and took steps to see it stopped happening.
Now I need Duane's story. That poor boy! He started out an ass, but he tried to fix it, baby does not deserve what's happened to him. Looking forward to his book!
DNF after 2,5 short chapters. I simply found the beginning, and the charges against him, too simplistic, unrealistic and ridiculus to continue to read. And usually I can still turn a blind eye towards a lot but in this world apparently the Talani can accuse people and just ship them off the planet. It's kind of funny though considering what he's accused of and then he, according to other reviews, is forced into marriage...
May have been an ok read, or even better, later on in the book but I couldn't get past the beginning.
What an interesting future. First contact has not only been made but a treaty has actually been completed. Earth is not yet part of the alliance but has established trade and the Talani seek some very, shall we say specific goods. Inter-species mating as a driving force for some interesting characters, most of whom you'll love and a few you'll instinctively hate. Characters that will keep your attention. Even some of the most peripheral ones are developed enough to make you think you'd enjoy a conversation over a cuppa (no I won't say that brand). Unfortunately I have to subtract a star because of the poor proofing. I hope that the next book in the series has a better proofreader as the foundation for a five star series has been thoroughly layed.
This was a really good read telling the story of Matthias and what happens to him after a drunken night. He ends up sentenced to be a submissive to a Talani warrior J'nah. J'nah finds he is in a battle to keep Matty safe and find out who was responsible for what was an illegal act. This looks like it is going to be a great series as we have still to find out what happened to Matthias' friend I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review
I enjoyed this book. I liked the originality of the alien biology. But I feel that there could of been some background as to why the aliens had come earlier in the story. A lot had to be taken for granted. initially it made me wonder if it was a second or third in a series that had a developed story that I was missing rather than the first book of the series. But other that and a few typos is was an engaging story. I look forward to the next book taking up where this one ended.
Alright, first off, I did like this story. A kidnapping, arranged/forced marriage, alien culture. It was good. And the fact that the lead is gay and the alien has essentially a third gender in their culture to nurture and raise offspring was fantastic. The problem I had was I felt the story was very light. It almost read like a Harlequin, where the plot is skimmed to get to the relationship parts. I wanted to go deeper into this culture. When did the aliens arrive? When did they merge with human society? The intricacies of alien/human interaction on the space station. It felt like a first draft, an opener that needed to be delved into. I appreciate that this is the first book in a series and more will be revealed in time, but that being said, it was a fun, though a bit rushed, read.
Stilted sentences, usually short, describe tedious, uninteresting or dull and obvious clichés. The author seems to have grabbed the first thing that came to mind when writing each scene, resulting in a trite rehash of overdone reactions, emotions and behaviors. Instead of digging deeper and discovering what her characters are really about, what makes them unique, we get monotonous paragraphs of pap.
I have read this a few times and I thoroughly enjoy the premise of the story. I can't wait to read what happens next and I hope the conspiracy comes to light a bit more in book 2.
Love the intrigue, and the deceptive practices of the aliens 👽 involved with the unauthorised development of the restructure of a human make to be able to carry their young once he is pledged for. A must read!
Loved it. Romance without the drama. Matty's mom is a hoot. I especially love how she added all the cat's being adopted. I am hoping to get the second book on amazon....
Entertaining read. Plenty of action, so no slow parts and quick moving. Some humour thrown is also. Cliff hanger, but luckily for me, the second book is available.
This is a Five Star book that was hampered by the large number of errors in the final third of its content. I was impressed by the world building and character development. The author made even the extremely rigid Talani likable. Matty and J'nah make a good couple and I loved the way J'nah put Matty first. I'm hoping that version I received for review was not a final edited copy. If so, I will gladly upgrade my review to five starts after rereading it for errors. Unfortunately, there were many homonyms used in error along with character names changing in the middle of scenes. Certainly, this is easy to understand with the alien dialect, but still threw me out of the story. I got the impression that the author was rushing at the end to finish and missed a final pass through.
Absolutely wonderful story. It was emotional and intriguing. Marty and J'nah were an amazing couple and I can't wait to read more about them. At first I was really upset with Duane and did not like him at all, now I just feel sorry for him. I hope he gets his HEA, maybe with J'nel. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love the blended world building in this book, as the human now living with aliens figures out what he can eat and what's already being imported and what he needs to find a substitute for. But my favorite part is the PSA for adopting a shelter pet. Let's just say the aliens decide to adopt practically a whole shelter. It was sooo funny.
