Blood Alone #1

Blood Alone, Volume 1

Rate this book
Enter Misaki, perhaps the most innocent and most sincere young lady there ever was. It's almost inconceivable that she could be a vampire. And with her powers as a vampire, she could easily entice any human to do her biding... but she chooses not to. Especially when it comes to Kuroe, a young author who has a deep running past with vampires.

OMG I am totally digging this series and don't think I can wait until Christmas to find out what happens next. I LOVE the story and the drawings. There is a sub-plot thrown in that actually works and didn't have me rolling my eyes. I can't wait to see what happens with these two and I hope, hope, hope this has romance in their futures.

This manga was really interesting. I liked it a lot. It was really cute in some places and has a darker mystery feel to it. I definitely want to read more and see where it goes.

I think that Blood Alone is one of the best Manga books that I have read so far. It is super dark, (I like dark things) and if you like that type of book I would totally recomend it. I am still currently reading it but I have a feeling it is going to have an awesome ending. If you like anime/manga, you should read this. I am trying to find more books by Masayuki Takano because I really like blood alone. Thanks for reading and more reviews on the way!

Cutest fuzziest most domestic vampire sorta-romance story with lost kitties and serial killers EVAH. And okay, in the objective terms the leads' age difference is wildly creepy, but. So cute and fuzzy! I am putting this is in the category with Merupuri of "supernatural intervention means I can LALALA my way through."

This was a strange little book. It felt like we were dropped in the middle of a story but not really given enough information to figure out what was going on. I believe more backstory is given in the next books, but honesty it was a bit strange and I am not sure if I will continue on with it. Blood Alone is at best a bland story.

A manga about a young-looking vampire (she looks about 12) and her human "partner" that she's shyly and rather secretly in love with. It sounds like a skeevy attempt to have one's Lolita-cake and eat it too, but in actual execution is quite sweet so far.

Don’t know how much I like it so far I think it’ll depend on how the relationship between the ml and fl develops. Girly pop Misaki is a vampire but it’s not said how old she is yet and apparently her parents were vamp killers and were killed by vampires (not her mom she died from an illness looked it up) and afterwards they turned her into one when she was a child. Kuroe the male protagonist’s sister was kidnapped from a hospital for some unknown to us health concern by a vampire who injured Kuroe’s eyes and when they healed he could see who was human and who wasn’t and see other things it seems that are unusual along those lines. The side characters so far are also interesting a vamp who doesn’t like vamps and has information about everything going on, Misaki’s vamp friend who is really old? Not sure but he seems to be powerful and more knowledgeable than her about mind control and turning humans into a renfield situation (which apparently happens when humans have vampire blood in their system). Misaki can’t control Kuroe nor can anyone because of what happened to his eyes. I’m getting a lot of murder mystery vibes they have talked about a killer in the city and weird things going on. Kuroe is a writer and Misaki lives with him but the relationship isn’t defined. I’m not sure if it was said I can’t remember but I think the person who killed Misaki’s dad was the same who took his sister (looked it up this is right). I think that’s a pretty coherent summary without finding any spoilers online for now 😂

These are the summaries at the beginning of the second volume:

Kuroe Kurose
A young man who makes a living as a novelist, and works on the side as a P.I. & man for hire. Thanks to the special abilities his eyes have gained, he can see past any tricks by anyone with supernatural powers. He is a bit naive to the feelings of women around him, and he currently lives with Misaki as her guardian.

Misaki Minato
Little is known about her past except for the fact that her father was a famous musician. Both she and her father were targeted by vampires, and Misaki has been turned as a result. However, the vampire side of her still lays dormant, so she acts no differently than any other girl her age.

Sayaka Sainome
She is the daughter of a rich doctor, and currently works as the chief of the forensics department with the police. Shes known Kuroe since their days as students, and whe occasionally calls upon Kuroe for his special abilities. She possibly has feelings for Kuroe, and she also apparently has a special ability. (My note: she can see ppls memories of the moments before their death)

Higure
Despite his looks and the way he acts, he is one of the most powerful vampires left alive. He is a friend of Misaki, and as an elder vampire, he is also in a sense her mentor.

Sly
A vampire who is in the business of selling information, as well as working as a man for hire. He apparently has a good working relationship with Kuroe, and hates vampires for turning him into one.

The story so far...
Upon seeing his sister taken from him by a vampire, his life's mission was to find his sister and get revenge on the vampire who shattered his life. With the power he gained through an injury he received to his eyes, he traveled to Europe where a famous vampire hunter trained him to become one of the feared humans alive by vampires. Currently, he lives in Japan with a young girl named Misaki who had the unfortunately fate of being turned.

The cover is simple but nice and the illustration inside is wonderfully drawn. I could see that the target audience is for young girls. This series doesn't mention how old Misaki's body is, but I am thinking she might be at least a teenager. The vampire that she is hosting is older and is different from the other vampires that she encounters. For them being a vampire is who they are but for her Misaki is a soul different from the vampire one inside of her. We do not get any further mention of this division. However, we are shown her increasing infatuation for her partner Kuroe. He does appear to be a bit older and is an author. I do find this funny that the author is primary occupation for these kinds of novels. There is some kind of investigation element to the book kind of like the series Supernatural on the CW network but that wasn't made entirely clear.  Anyways, the novel was setup like short episode skits. So it didn't offer much as a first volume. I would continue on but I am not looking to start a graphic novel series. I would give this a three point five stars.

This was a cute story. I found this copy at a thrift store and picked it up because, you know, ~vampires~. I've never been super into reading manga, but I found this surprisingly enjoyable. I thought the darker aspects of it were fun, and the vampire lore was intriguing and unique. My only hesitation was the actual love story. The infantilization of Misaki made me a bit uncomfortable. She looks like a child and acts very innocent and, honestly, I have no clue how old she is (or how old she was when she was turned into a vampire). She's in love with Kuroe, who is clearly an adult and is also like 2 feet taller than her. Not that there's anything wrong with a height difference, but idk. I'm just praying she's of age, or that her love for him is not reciprocated by him in more than a platonic/parental way 😬

***edit
I just googled it and apparently she's TEN?! Unsure if I want to continue the story because I like the vampire lore or DNF it because the main character is TEN and in love with her fully adult guardian??

the art illustrations wasn’t something i really digged, but i got over it. overall, the plot was ok and bearable. i got the edition with volume 1-3 and therefore with that insight, i would like to say that it was not worth the read for it. the story was moving at a slow pace, which might be ok for you but it’s just something i don’t like due to my preference. up to volume 3, there was little to no plot advances - disappointing me as that was not what it promised, from what i inferred at the back of the book.

would i pick it up again? yes, but only when i have no options left. it was just meh for me.

I forgot how cute this story is between Misaki and Kuroe omg. The dynamic between these two is just cute and wholesome even if Misaki is a vampire. This is technically a reread from 12 years ago but I still love the characters.

On some level, 3 stars is too much for this. On another level, it's definitely too little. Spoiler text used for discussions of accusations of lolicon.

At any rate, this is my basic reason why I don't rate it higher. The squick is high and while the story was good enough to finish out what there was scanlated - 8 volumes/34ish chapters - it's not as good as I wanted it to be.

That aside:

I really like the approach to vampires and vampire hunters and vampire assassins. A lot of it isn't new but picks up the best of vampire lore - blood families, territory disputes, the question of co-existing with humanity, vampire servants/masters (Hellsing), even the domestic angle (Moon Phase) etc - but the execution just really rings true.

Yes, there are bloody, super-powered battles, but at the core it is a story about a little vampire girl who is mostly little girl and not very much vampire. Higure, the vampire with the appearance of a young boy, might give a hint towards Misaki's future. Despite the old soul in a young body trait, he pulls off the balance of a not-fully-developed mind with the knowledge and experience of a vampire. He's still a lonely little boy despite (maybe because of?) the hundreds of years and the claim that he's not the boy Higure anymore.

Do I wish there was more and a proper completion to the story? Yeah. Am I okay with the focus on Misaki's crush on Korue? No. But it was worth my time anyway.

Side note: I actually really like the art. I forget what it reminds me of (maybe Usagi Drop?) but I just really do like the artstyle.

Bisakah mereka hidup bersama tanpa terjadi konflik?

Interesting concept. The world is well-established without much effort. New information is explained with ease and without interrupting the flow of the plot. The idea of mini stories driving the plot entirely is rather unique for a serious serial manga, but it is fairy well-executed despite notably abrupt transitions.

The panel layout can take some getting used to when the manga-ka decides to forego borders, but they are beautiful and can still be understood with only a little effort. I particularly liked how the page borders are black or white depending on the time of day the story is taking place. Since the main characters are more likely to be up in the night than during the day, this is a subtle but efficient reminder.

Not the most intriguing manga I've read this month, but it shows promise.

This is pretty interesting. I like that it reminds me of Blood TLV.

People might get a little freaked out that a big chunk of the book's story focuses on the romance between Misaki and Kuroe. Wikipedia has her age at about 10 years old (physically, anyway), and I know that this will bother some people. The lolicon in this is done rather well, as the relationship between the two of them is incredibly chaste. The two sleep in the same bed but nothing happens and if not for Misaki occasionally giving off vibes that she's in love with him, their relationship would actually be more of a brother/sister one.

The story so far is pretty decent, but it starts at a crawl. If you're looking for something fast paced you would probably be better off looking elsewhere.

I love this cute, simple story about a detective with a mysterious past with vampires and an adorably sweet female vampire whose perception of their relationship makes for a lot of awkward moments. The cover art is beautiful as well.

Kuroe yang bisa lihat makhluk halus tinggal serumah sama Misaki, gadis kecil yang juga seorang vampir. Kenapa mereka bisa tinggal serumah belum ada latar belakang ceritanya. Ceritanya sih kayak one shot, jadi tiap chapter beda, lumayan lah kasus-kasus pembunuhan, my type lah...

Very cute vampire story, in a little bit similar tone like Lament of the Lamb. And needless to say, much better than Vampire Knight.

The art in this is so charming. Ok, the relationship is skirting CREEPY territory but I'm a SUCKER* for solid storytelling on the page.
