I read this over 10 years ago and still remember it well. There really is no other book that went in-depth to the only successful American sitcom I can think of that featured a talking horse. Some of the principles in the series were still alive when this book was being written. The series somehow survived the death of one of the main actors, the nosey neighbor with the incredible speaking voice.
For me, the best parts in the book was learning about Bamboo Harvester, which was the name of the star horse who played Mr. Ed. He was bought as a stallion, but was wisely gelded before he started working on the show. There was some information on how he was trained. It was sad that he died so soon after the show was canceled. It made me wonder if he missed the routine.
So, I recommend this book for fans of this goofy little show, for horse lovers, and people who are interested in how a sitcom used to be made.
