Je trouvais la première partie un peu stéréotypée, un peu calquée sur l'histoire de l'explorateur Richard Burton qui fut le premier européen à aller à La Mecque et à en revenir vivant. La partie 2 indique toutefois qu'il s'agit de l'histoire réelle de l'explorateur français René Caillé qui est allé à Tombouctou et qui en est revenu vivant. Intéressant surtout pour l'aspect historique décrivant la difficulté de ce type d'exploration et surtout qu'il fallait être drôlement entêté pour la mener à bien.

Read this without realising it was the second of a series.

It's pleasant and helps pass time but there's not much here...

The same thing I had to say about the first book applies here. In fact is is the last bit of this one that is really out of sync with the reality.
