This journal is extraordinary. It spans from the opening of war in 1979 to the end of Vaughan's life in 1977 and therefore covers the war years and his life as an artist. What impressed me most were his frankness and his articulate clear writing. His life is a about as different from mine ( though lived in the same places ) as can be imagined. This is a journal full of surprises!
