Everything feels hurried and emotionally divested in this first tale in the Infinities sequence of (non)events. With a very, “let’s just get this over with,” perspective, dialogue, art, and even the story itself feels rushed at every level. As a product of greedy business decisions rather than properly germinated, genuine work of art – we don’t have a cake and neither do we get a chance to eat it.
Although the title would describe differently, A New Hope Infinity feels more like a post hoc take on IV with elements from Empire and Jedi both unceremoniously tacked-on. A counter-factual questions drives this hypothetical mash-up: What if those proton torpedoes didn’t detonate? With the Death Star left undestroyed, components and characters from the sequels are copy, pasted, and then viciously cut to match the hypothetical conclusion and its ensuring reverberative consequences. Given its decidedly theoretical appeal, overall this story feels just as amorphous within as it is relevant to the canon without.
Ipso facto its perverted nature, already established and well-known verbiage becomes restructured and remolded to fit the platonic casts of the story. Yet, this denudes all of their seminal appeal and otherwise emotionally connecting charm. So when our beloved known-known’s talk, their words rings with a hollow power as vacuous as the meaningless phrases they construct are. We get the face, as it were but, none of the substance that made their quips memorable and enjoyable. Consider it verbal cotton candy if you will.
Compounding these abbreviations, everything that took time and tension to build up in the film series, is materialized in a mere panel or two here. Reduced at every level, the barest of thematic bones are barely keeping this slip-shop story together. Weirdly enough, instead of a fully fleshed and well-formed endoskeleton keeping a great narrative together, an artificially reapplied exoskeleton of meaning and paper-thin references supports an internally weak sub-structure barely on the verge of collapse.
Are there some good points? Only if you’re one of the kool-aid drinking fan-boys who have been guzzling Lucas’ commercial piss for the past two decades. For everyone else with IQ’s in the triple digits, we can only laugh at what a farce Star Wars has become ever since that silver haired villain has been exposed for the money grubbing whore we always knew he was. The Ewoks might have been the bellwether but the Infinities are a far more exploitative and instructively indicative example of what that (once seminal) filmmaker always wanted all aong: Cold Hard Cash.

I originally read this a year or two ago when I was the most obsessed with Star Wars. I can't remember exactly when.
But I LOVE this comic. It's got good art (always a plus) and the idea is fascinating - what if Luke missed at the end of A New Hope? How differently would things go?
It's such a well-executed idea. I never read the other two Infinities comics, but I really want to. I should get to that.

This one brings the idea of what happens if Luke misses by the end of the New Hope. It’s an awesome idea and the art is very good!
It might feel rushed sometimes because it tries to condense the hypnotizes of the next two movies into this alternative story. But I really enjoyed still.

This is a different look at the Star Wars universe; it is basically a series of "what ifs" from the three original movie stories. In this first volume, what would happen if Luke had failed to destroy the Death Star. It is an entertaining read, and it certainly looks at what would happen. You see familiar elements, yet you also get the changes based on that one pivotal event. This is a very easy read, and it may leave readers looking for more. Overall, it is one I recommend if you are looking for something different.

An alternate history of the original Star Wars trilogy. In this book, Luke's proton torpedo fails to detonate and the comic begins there. Similar to the old What If comics from the 1970's, but treated in Star Wars. Well done, and interesting.

A fun read on what would happen to the Empire/Republic/Rebellion if the Death Star hadn't been destroyed.
New paths are forged, but what was meant to happen, will happen in a different way.
I liked hearing about the heroes again, but most especially I dug 3PO at the end of it all.

Hace mucho tiempo, en la segunda planta del Eroski del Max Center (ahora inexistente)... un cómic recopilatorio de Star Wars llamó mi atención. Han pasado muchos años y ya no recuerdo por qué no pedí a mis padres que me lo compraran, pero aún no he olvidado la sinopsis y siempre he querido hacerme con él. Finalmente he podido comprar el primero de los tres cómics que recopilaba aquel tomo.
"Star Wars: Infinitos" son tres relatos del estilo "What if" de la trilogía original de películas, en los que se nos cuenta qué habría pasado si un hecho de la película hubiera ocurrido de forma diferente. Este primer tomo está ubicado en el episodio IV (Una nueva esperanza) y nos plantea qué habría pasado si el ataque a la Estrella de la Muerte hubiera fallado.
Ha sido una lectura interesante, pero considero que no arriesga lo suficiente como para desligarse del canon de Star Wars. Se ve claramente que sigue dependiendo demasiado de lo ocurrido en los episodios V y VI, aunque los acontecimientos no se desarrollen de la misma manera. Se podría pensar que esto es una buena decisión, porque significa que el destino de este universo y sus personajes es invariable y ciertas cosas deben ocurrir, ya sea de una forma u otra, pero de cara al lector da la sensación de que el autor no ha querido retorcer demasiado la trama. Además, hay fragmentos que se notan muy apresurados, y esto es así porque el autor considera que el lector ha visto los episodios V y VI antes de leer este cómic.
Pese a todo, no considero que haya sido una decepción. Muestra situaciones interesantes, y el dibujo no está mal, aunque la caracterización de algunos personajes no me ha gustado mucho. Por último, quiero añadir que es curioso leer algo que fue escrito en la época en la que se veían las precuelas en el cine (el libro es de 2002), donde la trama es más compacta y no es necesario depender de miles de productos audiovisuales de este universo que han salido a la luz en los últimos años.

First published (as a four-part comic series) in 2001, I only discovered this the other month (the trade paperback omnibus was published in 2002). It has a great concept - “The events and players are very familiar but something isn't quite right. Luke Skywalker valiantly attacks the Death Star, fires his torpedoes -- and they miss their mark!” - which it carries through to the conclusion (and Luke doesn’t miss, it’s just that the torpedoes detonate before they should). In this case, the Rebel Alliance is wiped out, Luke goes to Dagobah to train with Yoda - Han drops off him, then he & Chewie make ends meet for five years and avoid Jabba The Hutt - and Leia falls under the spell of the Dark Side, groomed by the Emperor to take over from Darth Vader. The characters worked well for the most part - though Han’s attempts at humour ranged from smart to silly - and it was good to see where the script synced back in with the film, however briefly. I enjoyed the story and it moved at a good pace though I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, which was a shame but definitely well worth a read though, especially for any Star Wars completists.

C'est dommage, le postulat de départ est intéressant, mais pas du tout exploité correctement.
On sent tout de suite que le comics existe uniquement sur décision éditorial.
Tout est fait très rapidement, l'intrigue, les dialogues, les dessins...
Rien n'est expliqué et même si il n'y aucune logique tt pis, il faut finir toute la saga en seulement quelques pages.
Non vraiment, y a peu de chose à sauver, c'est dommage.

In this what if story, Luke does not destroy the Death Star and the events are narrated from that perspective. It explores what is potentially a much darker story where the characters could theoretically be consumed by the dark side out of frustration or hate. But it all happens very quickly, Luke goes to Dagobah with Han and Chewie but Yoda doesn't recognize the Wookiee (that seems disrespectful on the part of the writer), Leia is captured and becomes the living propaganda of the empire. the general story is entertaining to read but if you are going to do it, do it without any expectations. And because it's an alternate history, I don't mind saying that Yoda would never have committed that atrocity.

This Dark Horse comic was released in 2002, before Disney took over the galaxy far, far away and relegated the Expanded Universe to mere legends.
Weaving together elements from Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with the aftermath of that one pivotal change, this is a fun read for fans.
My only qualm with it, and one which is pretty common in comics, is that it's too short. Four issues is not enough to expand upon this idea deeply enough; this could easily have run twelve.
Still, it's a fascinating concept and well worth the read.

Ok, it was super silly but I loved it. It reminded me of the old school “What If?” Marvel titles. The Art was phenomenal and the story was cheesy, but fun.
Loved:
-how cinematic it felt
-evil Leia is a mood
-“Coming to see you I am” what a fucking move!
Liked:
-the personification of Han
-the moment right after the failed explosion. So dumbstruck.
Not a Fan:
-violent C3po is silly
-the bit with Han not seeing Ben was old FAST
All in all loved it a lot and would love to see an animated version of it.

Solid What If? story that offers a look into what would’ve happened if The Death Star run from A New Hope failed to blow up the planet destroying ship. Some fun character moments like Han Solo meeting Yoda and figuring out his deal before Luke does take place and it’s drawn pretty well.
Certain aspects feel a tad rushed and I really don’t know how to feel about Yoda destroying The Emperor by dropping the Death Star on the planet it was on, but it’s certainly a memorable ending and an overall decent read.

A quick and fun read, it is a good taste of Star Wars if you find yourself wanting some. The overall story and art (and twist on the original) is fine. After the beginning, the book converts into more of what I'd call a standard action flick or superhero tale than a Star Wars story.

A great way to spend an afternoon, this series of what if books dont really add to the old star wars legends canon but do offer different interpretations to the characters who we get to know through the movies, casting them in a different light. how does Luke Skywalker carry on after he fails to destroy the death star? does Han Solo repay Jabba? what happens to Princess Leia after the Rebellion falls?

The Torpedo malfunction in the crucial moment caused the Death Star survival and its shooting on the rebel base. Luke escaped so did his sister and their path divided. She joined her father and Luke found master Yoda.
Tarkin met master Yoda and parked the Death Star in lousy parallel parking.
Luke had fun with his sister and father, while Emperor had not that much.
Overall it was fun to read.

Look I'm sorry but the idea that Leia would ever be Vader/the Emperor's apprentice is total fucking bullshit. Not saying she'd never go to the Dark Side, just that she wouldn't do it under their guidance, especially after the destruction of Alderaan. Be a little realistic please.

Maybe the Original Star Wars is too sacred to me so I do not want to read a What If-kind of story of it. Especially if it is done crappily like this with nothing good in it. Just stupid things in a row.
