David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London. Lloyd-Jones was strongly opposed to Liberal Christianity, which had become a part of many Christian denominations; he regarded it as aberrant. He disagreed with the broad church approach and encouraged evangelical Christians (particularly Anglicans) to leave their existing denominations. He believed that true Christian fellowship was possible only amongst those who shared common convictions regarding the nature of the faith.
This book is a publication of a sermon series delivered by MLJ on his exposition of Ephesians 6:10-12. MLJ challenges the reader to understand that the entire course of human history and our present lives must be viewed through the biblical lens of understanding our fallen condition. The entire battle that presently rages is not primarily a physical one - conflict, hate, wars, bitterness, etc - but all these are but manifestations of the principle battle which is not physical but spiritual. This is a vital reminder for our times and the reason that only in the power of God, through our position in Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit can we prevail over these powers and forces of evil in the spiritual realm. MLJ also takes pains to warn the reader about the wickedness of fascination with ‘spiritism’ ( the occult, astrology, etc) and provides a thoroughly biblical argument why these things are straight out of the den of Satan. Highly commend this little book....MLJ stills speaks today through his published works and it is a loss to the present believer and the church if we do not learn from this brilliant and studied theologian and pastor
Short book, and wonderful. Great insight to Ephesians 6:12!!
Summary:"The ultimate explanation of the whole course of human history is that, in the last analysis, it is nothing but the arena in which a mighty conflict is taking place between God and the forces of heaven, and the devil and the forces of evil and hell. The church and the Christian must always be aware that 'We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6:12) The author reminds us that the devil operates on a worldwide scale as well as upon individuals. He traces the confusion and chaos of present-day society to the destructive work of satan and states that in a day there is a renewed fascination of with astrology, the occult, spiritism and doctrines of devils, to be aware of these evil powers and will almost certainly mean that we will be defeated by them. At the same time we are reminded that the final victory is God's for he has appointed a day when the devil and his forces will be routed and the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of righteousness will reign over all."

Additionally, it includes a few footnotes to clarify particular details which may be lost on the modern-day reader. For example, “What is Remembrance Day?”; “When was this or that sermon that he mentioned preached?”; “What is the present name of a book title or ministry referenced?”.
This short read covered several topics that I found interesting and didn't expect. I should never be surprised by the Doctor but i am Surprised and amazed.
In this series of four messages preached in 1960, Lloyd-Jones addresses the issue of spiritual warfare, focusing on our true enemy—the devil—and the way he works. While helpful, Lloyd-Jones perhaps spends a bit too much time exploring the various phenomena and outworkings of these ‘principalities and powers’, and shortchanges his time examining the Christian reaction and response to such things. In all however, even a brief excursion with Lloyd-Jones is well worth the effort.
