The Good: I liked John Stewart being in charge. He's a much more natural fit than Hal Jordan, the guy who constantly wings it. Combining the Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps is an interesting idea.

The Bad: This felt more like a return to the pre-Rebirth book. Too much focus on trying to make the book try to sound like a crime procedural. Yes, Green Lanterns are basically space cops. But that doesn't mean I want to hear about you turning in your partner for not following proper procedure, etc. These are aliens in space, they shouldn't sound like Benson and Stabler on Law and Order. I mean, how could you even enforce laws on various planets, they won't be the same. On planets like Khund, murder is probably legal.

The Ugly: Sandoval and Van Sciver's art was good, the art in the second story was not. It made it feel like a fill-in story.

Received an advance copy from DC and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

"The Future is at stake, and you are asking me out."

Well, it doesn't sound so bad. LOL

Basically the Green Lanterns and Yellow Lanterns are dealing with the aftermath from the previous volume, and some people from the future are trying to mess things up. The plot is nothing new, but the fine artwork, the clever plot twists () and the witty tone really does make the story enjoyable for me.

The 3rd volume is still highly entertaining and delightful, I specially like the part when Hal and Kyle teamed up to help Saint Walker to battle some supernatural entity of desperation. That's great~

But I don't think I get the reason why the main villain of the second half would hate the Green Lantern Corp so much that he is . I see none of his motivation. *sighs*

PS: Kyle is such a sweetheart~

PSS: and John Stewart is so manly. XD

This one was epic!

Kyle Rayner and Hal search for Blue lantern leader Saint walker and its an interesting story how they rescue him and all and fight threats there but its when Kyle becomes the GL and the how and why of it is an interesting story. And on Sector 563 two GL and YL are trapped and it may have connection to Hal's Krona gauntlet and so Hal has to look into that but not only that the threat from the future SARKO is behind it and he is also attacking the corps and so Hal and Kyle has to save the corps with Rip Hunter but there are more connections and revelations that will change one of the corps forever.

Its an excellent story and Venditti brings the punches again and this time showing the return of a fan favorite lantern but a tough story for him and hints at big things to come but what I love is that Hal gets his big fight and saving the day but what he does with Guy and Arkillo here that I love a lot and he makes them the standout characters here and gives each corpsmen their due and also some great new threats including time-travel. Its a great read and I just have fond memories of reading t as it was coming out so there's that and also I love the art here!

Weaker than the rest of the series but does have it's moments.

World: The art is okay, it's the best when Sandoval is drawing the rest is only aight. The power of the ring when Sandoval and the colors, gorgeous. The world building is good, it's new territory that the series has not gone to before with the Green and Yellow teaming up and the call backs to New52 and also classic cosmic characters like Space Cabbie is great, good world building.

Story: Two 4 issue arcs and they each are enjoyable. It's not perfect, there are some choppy storytelling and some questionable villain development and logic leaps for the sake of story (what happens to Kyle) but overall it was fun. The pieces that are introduced so the villain of the second story was interesting but the pacing did not allow the emotional impact that Venditti was hoping for. The cast of characters is huge so that may be one of the reasons that emotion did not land. It was fun, but not as good as the previous two arcs.

Characters: Guy is fun, he's done well but I think they tinkered a bit with his origins and I liked where he was with his Dad at the end of the New52, I don't like this one. John is great, a rock, not a lot of development. I found Natu and Kyle to be a bit way too fast, especially with what Carol (no matter how much I don't agree with that choice). Hal is Hal and was what he needed to be. I think Kyle was suppose to get the huge development here but I will say (SPOILERS AHEAD) I don't know how I feel about making him a GL again (yes I like the classic costume), it felt contrived and way to transparent in REBIRTH when he was fine being what he was (he was Ion before he can take having a lot of power). The relationship with Natu and Him didn't work, way to fast and way too rushed. The villain being their kid...I would have cared if the relationship above worked... (END OF SPOILERS)

It was good, but the weakest of the arcs so far.

Onward to the next book!

[Read as single issues]
As the alliance between the Sinestro Corps and the Green Lanterns continues, Hal and Kyle set off to restore one of the other coloured corps - the Blue Lanterns are down to one, and Saint Walker needs all the help he can get. Then, a visitor from the future brings portents of danger, and it's up to the Corps to unite against the threat - but how do you fight creatures that are immune to both willpower and the yellow light of fear?

Robert Venditti has mentioned that he's trying to cycle the focus of the arcs of this series, and it really shows here as Hal, John, Kyle, and Guy all get their moments in the sun throughout these issues. Kyle gets the spotlight in a big way after being absent for the first six months of the Rebirth era, while Guy and Arkillo's dedicated issue is almost uncomfortable to read. The events of the Quest For Hope arc aren't readily apparent just yet, but the time travel story leads right into the next arc, Fracture, and sets a lot of new events into motion which is always fun.

Artistically we're treated to Rafael Sandoval's lovely visuals, as well as Ethan Van Sciver yet again. Do I really need to say anything else there?

Continual high quality from this creative team.

A perfectly fine continuation of the current Rebirth events. This volume became a little too melodramatic at times, but that is to be expected with a space opera series such as Green Lantern. The conflicts are new, the characters are not, which I feel is keeping this title from being boring. Often with long-running titles, the writers do not know what direction to take the characters in, and so we are left with recycled storylines that offer no character development; but this incarnation of GL is finding new ways to add more depth to characters that have been around for decades.

Quest for Hope. This first story unfortunately shows the post-Johns GL-verse at its worst. Green fights Yellow and looks for Blue. It's yet another regurgitation of the emotional spectrum that's gotten very old in the last five or ten years. Most of the story itself is OK enough, with some nice character interactions between a variety of characters, but isn't there something new under the suns? And I'm really not sure what to make of the muddled ending — either what was intended or why things happened. Huh. [4/10].

The Prism of Time. This arc has a really great premise of a character from down the timestream coming back to wipe out the Corps. But it turns into a pointless battle against blocky green praying mantises. Then the Lanterns decide to fight in a totally ridiculous way. Then there's a last page "shocker" that was so clearly telegraphed that it was funny. Sigh. [5+/10].

★★★1/2

The coolest thing about this series is the fact that we actually get to really witness all of our hero Lanterns working together as one Corps. Because the rookies Simon and Jessica are the focus of the Green Lanterns title, there’s room for Hal Jordan to really be a part of the Corps rather than just doing superheroics on his own and it’s exciting to see, because the team camaraderie has always been the best appeal of the Green Lantern mythology.

And here we get a good volume exploring the truce between the Green Lanterns and the Sinestro Corps and the growing pains that it brings. Some of it does feel a little rushed, like the friendship between Guy and Arkillo, which needed a bit more development, as was the reintroduction of Saint Walker. But again, it’s the character dynamics that hold this one together.

'Hal Jordan & the Green Lantern Corps, Volume 3: Quest for Hope' by Robert Venditti with art by Ethan Van Scriver and Rafa Sandoval is fast becoming my favorite of the DC Rebirth titles. With complex stories and excellent art, I really like what is happening.

The Green Lanterns and the Yellow Lanterns have to figure out how to work together and rebuild. With their past history, this won't be easy. The remaining Yellows are hunted out and given the option of prison, or working with their new Green teammates. Guy Gardner tries a hands on approach with one Yellow that is such a typical Guy approach to problem solving. Meanwhile the Guardians have a search of their own to find hope in the galaxy with the use of a Blue Lantern. Once things finally seem settled, a new threat arrives...from the future.

The story is good. There are a lot of story threads going on, and Venditti does a good job of keeping things interesting and moving along. Ethan Van Scriver and Rafa Sandoval's art in this series is just amazing. I love the art choices and colors. The book seems epic and heroic in this team's hands.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Pretty much a confined plot within this volume. A traveller from the future comes to warn that if the GLs don't do something today then they will no longer exist in about 30 years. That whole plot is played out from start to finish with an interesting reveal at the end. Also, some pivotal events (that I won't mention) happen in this volume which will now affect the direction of the new Green Lantern Corps. Action-packed and an intense read. Quite an in-depth plot with information on the previous GL storyline and the political events causing new changes. I am still a newbie to the GL universe so found having all four major Green Lanterns in one book quite enlightening. I'm hooked on this storyline and look forward to where it will go.

This book was alright. I liked to conflict and the resolution. One complaint is why do the Green Lanterns get their own unique costumes but the Yellow Lanterns all wear the same? Seems like a double standard....but the book is called the Green Lantern Corps. And why is the GL symbol so simple but the other lanterns are so complex and not clear what they are? Is there a back story here?

Quest for Hope is the third installment in the Rebirth series of Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps. Upon Hal's reunion with the Corps, the Guardians send him on a mission with Kyle Renner to find the last source of hope. More importantly, the last of the Blue Lanterns, Saint Walker, who's rings hold the power of hope. They find him on a planet that is attempting to suck the life of all living organisms, and now, their willpower will be tested as they try to rescue Walker while succumbing to the toxic influence of the planet. Meanwhile, the Yellow and Green Lanterns still have some trouble working together, but they both cooperate when the decision to capture all rogue Sinestro lackies. In which, Guy goes at it all, facing one of the strongest Yellow lanterns without the use of his ring. And before you know it, a new being from the future comes to exterminate all Green Lanterns from the universe. And this time, they are using a league of soldiers that absorb willpower, so how will the Corps be able defeat such an army without the use of their rings?

The rebirth series for the Green Lanterns is still going pretty well, in my opinion. While Hal is still definitely the star of the series, this volume gives greater focus on Guy and Kyle. Two lanterns from the previous volume that only got one individual issue that focused on them. This time, their screen time is greater that I can see different sides of their characters much better, making them more fleshed out. There also appears to be some greater world-building here, along with a new mystery going under way, possibly hinting at a new arc in this series. The art is still strong, and a little sharper here than before, but I like it well enough. Overall, there is still a good consistency with this series and managed to keep my interest in their exploits that I look to reading more on them.

Minor spoiler.

Really loving artist Rafa Sandoval's work. He's got what it takes to be a top-tier talent. Engrossing story. I'm glad I went back and re-read the first two Rebirth books. Venditti has really turned around his poor start in the New 52 Green Lantern books. Totally love reading GL again. I'm going full burn and read the rest of this series. Having a big Green Lantern day. Super-fun!

I'm a bit disappointed that Kyle is no longer the White Lantern.

The first thing I want to say about this graphic novel is HOLY ARTWORK! Oh my goodness - this had some of the best art I’ve seen to date in a graphic novel. Am I reading a book or playing a video game?! Ok, now that we’ve covered that… I found the story interesting, but it overall fell a bit short for me. The moral of the story being a quest for hope (and the title) was great, but it felt a bit scattered for me at times. Nonetheless, I rated this book as 3 stars and I think any big lantern fan would enjoy the sinestro corp team up with green lantern corp.

This is still a nice ride.

Probably this volume is not as consistent as the first 2, but it's still very exciting to see the GLC mythology rising again.

No, it is not perfect but it's a really fun reading.

I'm especially loving the Guy Garner-Arkillo new bromance. It's also great to see Kyle Ryner wearing the green again.

May their light keep shining.

It seems Venditti has fallen into a story cycle that continues here with Hal doing a thing and mostly everyone else doing another thing. I gotta say Vendetti is doing well with handling such a large cast with each person having a moment to shine or a role in each arc. While its not a bad setup it is constantly used in this run. Threats and conflicts are used to push characters goals and ties but to the point that conflicts start to feel inconsequential. Like they're only there for character X and Y to have Z happen between them. While its nice for the group focus it begins to make each story feel procedural in a cheap consumable fashion. They have fun concepts to give them some appeal but at the end you know its just there for X or Z to happen.
The Quest For Hope had the best Hal story so far which isn't much since I've been preferring the GLC parts of these. But instead of a second story on the GLC we instead get more of a Guy Gardner story. I'm a big Guy Gardner fan and he is written very well here by Venditti and the all-knuckle drag out that shows Gardner's past and linking it to his stubbornness was interesting to read (as well as viscerally drawn by Rafa Sandoval). I’m miffed Kyle’s a GL again. I enjoyed the writing many writers do to show off the White Lantern stuff and it gives his a different perspective and view that makes the youthful Kyle turn into the wise voice when talking to GLs. But he’s just another GL :/
The Prism of Time story was alright. I enjoyed the Gorin-Sunn and Space Ape dynamic but the “time travel from the future to protect the future” I’m mixed on. It’s a fun idea. The Sarko section’s aren’t bad and the possible future of the YLC merging into the GLC and losing there initial idea and having Sarko try to change that is a neat way to explore how people cling to the past and the origins when a community dons a big change. But those Rip sections were boring since they were super exposition-y. That and the crystal monsters weren’t that interesting to me.
On the topic of the GLC and YLC working together I've been enjoying it. I enjoy when the emotional spectrums are being experimented with like the YLC being good. I enjoyed the take on it in the 2021 GL Annual and its nice here with its more traditional Yellow Lantern view of fear.
I just wish the stories were more long-form. Venditti is setting up some plotlines and characters are definitely growing through their relationships to others. But each storyline feels largely unrelated and like it’s just an episodic story or encounter as Venditti builds to some story with the plotlines he’s setting up.
Art is same rotation of the two along with V Ken Marion bringing it as well. As usual Rafa Sandoval does the best but V Ken Marion's output was interesting. In the second volume his single issue was amazing but his art here in The Prism of Time was rather poor in comparison. Now that he is on more consistently I think the time schedule sorta crunches his art to be a lot less impressive and enjoyable than the single issue he did in volume 2. I also think his art can vary a lot depending on the inker. In between issues the inker changes and for whatever reason it is most notable in his issues. Idk why. Maybe he is quite free with his inkers or his style leaves a lot of choice or ways to be inked in. But his statue-esque style and strength at detailed page-length panels still remains. Though his smaller panels felt very weak with some inkers like the one in issue 19 not helping making it look cartoon-y and with poor facial features and line weight.

This series and "Green Lanterns" has made me a stalwart fan of the Green Lantern mythos. I seriously can't get enough of these stories! The many possibilities that come with the concept of "space cops" is fleshed out beautifully in both this and the series starring Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. But to focus on this particular volume: I loved the themes about hope in the first story arc, and, in the second... well, I'm a sucker for a good time travel story. (Particularly with the tragic ending concerning Kyle Rayner; I won't give any specifics because of spoilers, but... I'm very curious to see where that revelation is going to take the most hopeful and fun-hearted Green Lantern.) My favorite part, however, was definitely the spotlight on Guy Gardener. I know he's a character that fans love to hate... and in other series (*cough* Justice League International *cough*), I totally did. His extreme tough guy attitude and the disdain other characters have for him is nothing short of hilarious. But in this title (and maybe others before it that I just haven't read), they've really fleshed him out to be a hero in his own right... and in his own way. He may have an annoying amount of tough guy bravado, but he backs it up with fierce loyalty and action. The scenes between him and Arkillo--and their ultimate respect for one another... I mean... wow. I thought that was excellently handled and really dove into Guy's character, as well as being an excellent way to advance both the plot and also continue to develop the evolution of the Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps collaboration. I'm a rookie in the GL universe, so I could see why veteran fans might be upset by that evolution, but... I loved it. The only reason I'm not giving this 5-stars is because some of that Kyle-Rayner/White-Lantern/Green-Lantern/attempted-resurrection-of-the-Blue-Lanterns stuff was... confusing. And seemed a little... far-fetched? (Says the person who's totally okay with a character called Mogo, the Living Planet, right?) I don't know, it just didn't rub me the right way. The idea of resurrecting dead characters is one that's sticky for me, so that's probably why... but it didn't work, so... no harm, no foul, I guess. Again, I'm a newbie fan, so maybe that scene of Kyle going from White to Green Lantern would have had more "oomph" for me if I'd read other previous stories, but as it is.... Still, that was a pretty minor complaint in the whole scheme of things. This was a still a book I couldn't put down, and one that I traded in for the next volume at my local library the very next day. Time for volume 4!

4.5 Stars. Almost perfect...
HJ&tGLC Volume 3 is made up of two stories : "Quest for Hope" and "Prism of Time".

"Quest for Hope" - In the Aftermath of the battle against Brainiac, the Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps are joining forces and moving into the same base on Mogo, however, the GLC is in need of the blue light of Hope. Off on the search is Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner, who find Saint Walker battling a monster made from darkness. They rescue him and bring him back to the Guardians, who attempt to combine the blue light of Hope with Kyle's White light to begin a resurrection of the previously killed Blue Lantern Corps members. It fails for some unknown reason and Kyle loses his mastery over the White Light, reverting to Green again. Also, a battle between Arkillo and Guy Gardner (incredibly violent and outstanding) shows the Yellows that peace can be kept with the GLC.

"Prism of Time" - The peace is holding, but gets a bit stressed when the Yellows begin to set up a Central Power Battery on Mogo. As the discussion continues, time traveller Rip Hunter (see "Legends of Tomorrow" show) shows up and informs the GLC that their peace with the Sinestro Corps is what starts a chain reaction that, in the future, completely eradicates the Green Lantern Corps. He warns of the coming of the enemy who will destroy them, Sarko. Sarko has arrived from the future and gathers these Prism creatures who seem to be made of pure Will, and he sends them to attack both Corps on Mogo. Through reasoning and battle tactics, it is discovered that the Prism creatures are made from the future pieces of Krona's Gauntlet, which Hal buried after using it to create his ring. Hal realizes that he can destroy the Gauntlet in the present day and it won't be available in the future. Fighting Sarko and a Will entity at the same time, he finds and destroys the Gauntlet, the backlash killing Sarko. As that battle went on though, Kyle used Rip's GL Ring to find out how to defeat Sarko, and instead finds out that he is the future child of Kyle and Soranik Natu, which causes him to spiral into confusion and depression.

HJ&tGLC is one of the best Rebirth comics around, in my opinion. High recommend, though to understand everything that is going on, you need to have a fair grasp on the GL continuity.

Good news, Kyle's back as a Green Lantern!

Bad news, we're three volumes in now and Hal doesn't seem to be transforming anymore. Looks like they ditched that storyline as soon as Volume 1 ended. A boringly predictable choice.

I don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying the Quest for Hope has Hal and Kyle go on a mission to find the avatar of Hope, Saint Walker. The Guardians, Ganthet and Sayd hope that he, together with Kyle, will be able to resurrect the Blue Lantern Corps. They try, and in so doing, Kyle is depowered himself, losing control over the different coloured rings and returning as a Green Lantern. It is a welcome development, if only because this storyline was a retread of Ion that seemed to be going nowhere. The only downside of Kyle and Saint Walker's failed attempt to bring back the Blue Lantern Corps, besides their failure, is that they undoubtedly brought back Sinestro in the process. These storylines seem to be going in circles.

Beyond this quest, John's trying to make allies of the Yellow Lantern Corps while Guy is out there being Guy; read, doing something really stupid. The only reason I forgive it is because it's Guy and because he later shows some semblance of intelligence in his dealing with the Corps' new alliance. The Lanterns are faced with a new threat, this time from the future, that ties back to Hal Jordan's renegade past, and Kyle seems to be getting back together with Soranik. Indeed, Kyle's character seems to be returning to his 90s self in more than just his costume.

All in all, it was a fun, if predictable, read. I really hope they don't separate the two Corps apart, not anytime soon at least, since that would be going back to the status quo and we have enough of that as it is. And where's Carol? Surely, if she picked up on Hal's return she's bound to show up at some point? Or better yet, why doesn't he find her?

As a Green Lantern fanboy from way back, I have to say I’ve really been enjoying the whole Rebirth treatment of the boys in green…and Volume Three certainly didn’t disappoint.

We’ve seen the Green and Yellow Lanterns face off against one another more times than I can count…but John Stewart has decided that the time has come for the Lanterns to bury their collective differences and work side by side for the greater good.

I have to admit I loved the idea of the forces of Fear and Will working alongside one another, even going so far as to install a Yellow Power Battery on the surface of Mogo.

But meanwhile, the remaining Guardians have tasked White Lantern Kyle Rayner and Green Lantern Hal Jordan with the task off tracking down the last remaining Blue Lantern, Saint Walker.

I’m a big fan of the Blue Lanterns. The Blue Lantern symbol is the background on my iPhone, so i was really happy to see them make their way back into the Rebirth universe.

Without going too deeply into spoilers, the story-line of Quest for Hope was a fantastic ride and it’s wonderful to see the Yellow and Green Lanterns fighting back to back. There’s some amazing twits and turns most of which I didn’t see coming…you know how it is, you’ve read comics for a while…you can kinda see how its going to play out…not this time! I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this played out.

But the best part of this book…which was spoiled a bit by the cover (spoilers ahead people) was seeing Kyle Rayner back in the Green… AND wearing the costume from his early days as a Lantern. It’s not addressed in any way why his costume is different to the others, but it’s/ a real nice touch for long time fans of the series.

Overall score 8/10

Zawiera zeszyty z serii Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #14-21 (2016).

This book collects two separate 4 issue storylines. Issues 14-17 collects the Quest for Hope in which John Stewart has ordered all Yellow Lanterns hunted down and either recruited into the corps or imprisoned as part of the effort to bring the Green Lantern and Yellow Lantern corps together.

Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner go to rescue the last Blue Lantern in hopes of bringing back the Blue Lantern corps while Guy Gardener flies off to make a very personal appeal to his counterpart in the Yellow Lantern Corps---with his fists.

The Prism of Time comes in Issues 18-21 and finds Rip Hunter having traveled from the future to prevent the disappearance of the Green Lantern Corps at the hands of a man who is upset that their alliance with the Sinestro Corps works too well for his liking in the future.

There are some good ideas here as Stewart struggles to pull the two former enemies corps together. The characters are great and very fun to read. Guy Gardener's crazy fight is probably the highlight of the book.

The second story arc is strong, with some hints towards the future, and an emotional reveal in the last few pages.

The thing that most mars this book is the first story arc which ends in a way that feels contrived to change Kyle Rayner's power set and designation to fit with what he'd like to do in the book even if it didn't make sense. It screams, "Contrivance." I wasn't horribly attached to Rayner's previous status but it led to a very anti-climatic feel to the first arc.

Robert Venditti and Geoff Johns are the two most effective writers on Green Lantern. There was time when I coulnd't think beyond Superman and Batman but Venditti and Johns have nurtured and nourished Green Lanterns' characters so well.

Geoff originated Sintestro Coprs and Venditti is a force behind team up of pure will v pure evil. Green Lantern Corps and Sinstro Corps working together. The way they hated each other without any drop of mercy nobody would have thought this day would come. Formation has been made and new sectors have been assigned but how long will John Stewart be able to keep this up? Answer lies in next issues.

Ethan Van Sciver is majorly associated with Green Lantern comic book as an artist and it seems like these comic books are missing something if his presence is not there. In vol 3 Rafa Sandoval and V Ken Marion join Van Sciver and this result in one beautifully drawn masterpiece.

This Vol collects Hand Jordan and GLC #14-21. Story is good and didn't bore me, not even in a single panel. But it's also not one badass kinda issues collection. Main event is when Guy challenges Arkillo for a fight without power ring. I mean, what was he thinking and I am surely impressed by Guy's gut but am NOT agreedo on result.

All in all I am enjoying Green Lantern comic book so much. Recently, I have read almost 9 comic books of GL and I would like to continue this spree with more..

Venditti leads us into uncharted territory where the allegiance between the Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps gets tested to a possible breaking point.

I really like where Venditti is taking this as its something we haven't really seen before. He even has the newly aligned teams go out and hunt down the rest of the Sinestro Corps who are not in line with the allegiance. It does seem like this is a great place for the book to go, as its something that hasn't really been explored too thoroughly. Also, Hal's past decisions come back to haunt him (again) in this book, when the Gauntlet of Willpower, or whatever it was called, has now gained sentience and is ready to destroy the GLC.

The art is great, switching off between Sandoval and Sciver, and while they are both pretty different, they are both very good. So when the book shifts, its not a huge, disorienting transition. It works to actually refresh the story in a way.

Ultimately, the book wraps up very conveniently. Which I found takes away from the epicness of the story. We had something really good being setup, and the threat is literally contained in like, 1 page.

I like where Vendetti is taking the book, and Ill be sticking around to see where we go from here.
