This is a real fun novel. A small time mobster trying to make it big gets caught on a small job and ends up being sentenced to stay at a monastery as an alternative sentence.

Lots of funny parts as Louie resists the efforts of the monks while also in the line of fire for attempted assassinations.

I received this book in the mail as a free gift for (re)joining the American Chesterton Society. On a quiet Saturday morning while isolated with COVID-19, I read it in a single setting.

Nothing spectacular, nothing to write home about, but a charming good tale of a small-time mobster who gets caught up in problems too big for him and ends up assigned to a monastery (in lieu of prison) by a reforming judge looking to advance his Alternative Sentencing agenda.

Very cheesy. And yet very fun and quite touching.

I gave this book two stars because I read it until the end.
The 'mob' language was overdone by chapter 2.
When I read the back of the book for a synopsis, there was nothing about the religious angle of the story. Whoops! Spoiler alert!

Without giving away the ending, I read this type of story when in eighth grade Catholic school.

This was so enjoyable to read. Larry was a true Chestertonians, and it comes shining through in this novel of Grace.
