2007 was a wonderful year for me. Although I have been published by major mainstream publishers, this year I chose to return to the self-publishing arena (Living, Breathing Lies) in order to continue to write the stories I like to write. I am so appreciative of those readers who have continued to read my books despite who my publisher is. I always say, "Never let anyone tell you that you can't; show them that you can." I am about staying on the literary path I asked God to set my feet upon. I hope you, as well, are going about fulfilling your dreams and letting no one bound your mind, soul, or hands.
Also this year, my latest book, Living, Breathing Lies placed as a WINNER in the USA Book News National Best Books Award for 2007 in African American Fiction (USABookNews.com). Do I count this as a blessing? You bet I do.
Currently, I am working on my 10th title, SASSY, due out June 2008.

Eh. Could I have went my whole life without reading this? Probably. But I know many, MANY men who would benefit from reading this. Great story about the consequences of succumbing to your flesh, and what happens when you don’t take accountability for your actions and the way you treat ppl. My rating is low cause it dragged in the beginning. Some of the dialogue was dragged out to the point of boredom, but overall I loved the ending.

Self-centered and Egotistical Make a Poor Excuse of a Man
In If There Be Pain, Gloria Mallette writes a tale of a man who thinks that he has his life under control. Kyle thinks that by giving the ladies who he uses as sex objects gifts, he is doing alright by them, and that they are getting a deal. After all, he his very nice looking. Kyle does not respect any of the women in his life, not even his mother. He emotionally and physically deserts his mother when she needs him most. When his Native American grandfather, who has always supported him, becomes ill and is no longer of any use to Kyle, he makes himself scarce , leaving his grandfather feeling abandoned. Everyone, from his parents to his friends, has tried to get the selfish Kyle to grow up.
After his grandfather dies, he is plagued with nightmares and visits a tarot reader to try and find out the meaning behind the nightmares. The tarot card reader tries to warn him, but Kyle still refuses to examine his life and does not believe that his women could have a problem with him.
Kyle was so selfish that I wanted to jump into the book and shake him. I could not find one reason to like Kyle nor could I like any of the women in this book. Hated characters make for memorable books, but I do want to have at least one character to sympathize with but I found none in this offering. But, on the other hand, I did enjoy reading this book . Women that have potentially selfish sons would benefit from reading this novel; maybe it could help to steer them in the right direction.

I really wanted to like this book. While it was very well written, I couldn't stand the ignorance of its main character. The arguments were annoying & too long (I mean, if you're on the phone & you don't want to hear what the other party has to say, you hang up, right?). There were no grey areas in the characters. They were either arrogant & self-righteous or dumb & dumber. While I love Gloria Mallette's writhing style, I hated too many of the people in this novel to be able to enjoy it. I wish I didn't. But I did.

This book makes me feel like I saw a film instead of having read the book. Vivid, and very realistic.
