I read this book as part of the Sweet and Sassy Anthology: Stormy Kisses and loved the chemistry between these two characters. Lauren and Tanner haven't seen each other for some time and run into each other again at a funeral when Lauren comes back into town. The sparks are still there even after all this time.

Lauren has to decide what she wants to do with her life and if she wants to let anyone get close to her again. She needs to finish healing after the loss of her loved ones. Tanner understands the pain that she is and wants to help but what will it take to get Lauren to let down that massive wall blocking her heart and let him in?

Lots of tornado and storm chasing happening and electricity (you'll have to read it to find out what type of electricity I'm talking about).

MY TAKE
This was such a fun story. After reading it--with it's vivid imagery of the tornado chasing--I had to run out and watch the film Twister again. This story had the same kind of emotional pull and romantic tension between Lauren and Tanner, but it didn't have the vulgarity of the film. And the thrills of danger as well.

Another winner by Armstrong.

Lauren's parents were killed by a tornado when she was 18 yrs old. Her boyfriend, Tanner, thought he was helping her deal with it, but she felt he just trying to fix her and wasn't listening to her. So right after high school she leaves Sunset Plains, and Tanner and doesn't return until 4 yrs later for the funeral of a beloved teacher (Mrs. Olsen). Tanner never understood why Lauren suddenly left because she only left him a short note in his mailbox, and with her cell phone disconnected, he had no way to reach her. He didn't know what happened to her.
Sparks are flying at Mrs. Olsen's wake when Lauren and Tanner run into each other. He thinks she's reckless and she thinks he isn't listening to her. The attraction they feel for each other is still there but unless they have a serious conversation about what happened 4 yrs ago their mutual attraction isn't going anywhere.
I agree with both of them. Lauren is reckless and almost gets herself killed trying to feel close to her parents by chasing a tornado that hits Sunset Plains while she's there. Tanner didn't and still isn't listening to her--he does what a lot of men do--tries to fix the situation she was complaining about instead of just listening and being there for her. Finally after another close call with a tornado they're able to really talk and listen to each other.
I understand Lauren was lost after suddenly losing both of her parents at such a young age but I didn't understand why she thought she felt closer to them putting herself in danger chasing tornadoes. I was glad to see she finally came to her senses and realized she was trying to bury the pain. I learned quite a bit about tornadoes in this book. This is a clean romance.

I tried to like the female MC, I really did, but she was so reckless and impulsive that it drove me crazy. She didn’t care how her actions affected anyone. She chose to risk her life instead of actually listen to and try to understand those that cared about her. She was on a self destructive course and stubbornly wanted to stick to it. The MCs were always arguing. Their apologies always turned to accusations and they made no progress.

I liked Tanner though. He was sweet, attentive and selfless and he deserved so much better than Lauren. He literally did all the work and all Lauren did was run away. Didn’t enjoy this one bit.

Twisters and Textbooks gives a great deal of information about the life of a twister and the devastation that it causes.
Twisters and Textbooks tells the story of love lost and second chances.
Lauren and Tanner were high school sweethearts. Lauren runs off after her parents die. Years later she returns. Tanner returns home to teach at the small college in town. On his first night back he attends a viewing for his old high school teacher at the towns funeral home.  Can Lauren and Tanner overcome the past and their anger?

I won't tell anymore of the story. Please get the book to see what happens. You will be glad you did.

I have actually read this story before. This was part of an anthology--Sweet and Sassy Antohology: Rainy Kisses by six authors. I decided to read this again because I thought the one in the anthology was a condensed version. It turned out it was a full version already and I did not miss anything in the story.

I am a bit weird. Weird in the sense that I don't want to read and watch again books and movies that I love. It happened very rarely that I would have to do a repeat. I have this notion that if I reread a story or watched a movie the second or for the nth time that it will lose its magic. The same magic that made me love it the first time around. Well, I have actually proven that it did not do so for those that I really really love. But for those that were just good enough, I don't think they will have the same attention that I paid the first time. So, as much as possible I try to not do a repeat. And if I do, it was hell of a story or a movie to merit a second or third effort from me.

In this case, I think this book merits its own review. My review for the anthology was for the whole collection and I did not cite specifics. I did not even say which story I liked most. The collection was a very good one and I gave it 4/5 stars.

How was this book for me the second time around? It was not as delightful as the first time I read. It just meant that I was already familiar with the story and I kind-of anticipated the next scenes. This is exactly what I meant why I try to avoid re-watching and rereading. The element of surprise and giddy anticipation was taken out of the equation since I have already read the book and can still vividly remember how the whole tale goes and ends. I think it is a good thing that I can still vividly remember the details of the story, after all I read this first in October 2016. Being able to ferret out the details from my memory after over a hundred books I have read just meant that this book actually somehow made an impression on me. I admit, I have a very keen memory though it's not really foolproof.

For the mere fact, that I can close my eyes and remember the next events in the story before actually reading that chapter, was enough for me to garner this tale a 4/5 tornado funnel clouds. I did enjoy reading this book. The scene when the two former lovers (Lauren and Tanner) met again after four years was my favorite scene. It was ripe with tension and awkwardness that I can't help but feel it too. All in all, this was an easy and sweet read. Good for a summer read. Perfect while on a swing under the shade of a tree by the beach. The sound of waves a relaxing background music to this light read.

It hadn't felt like closure--it had felt like ripping bandages off wounds that were still as raw as the day Lauren created them.

Lauren left the small town she had grown up after her parent's tragic death. By doing so, she also left Tanner, the boy she had loved for several years. She broke his heart and never gave him an explanation for her leaving. Now, she is back in town chasing tornadoes. She said it makes her feel closer to her parents because her parents were killed in a tornado.

Tanner wants to protect Lauren. That is all he has ever wanted to do. Unfortunately, it had been suffocating to Lauren before. Now, she was just confused and wasn't really sure what she wanted. Tanner was a good man and when he comes to her rescue not once, but twice in a short span of time, she realizes she needs to decide if she is ready to give up chasing tornados or if the possibility of losing Tanner forever is worth the risk.

I listened the audiobook version of the book and really enjoyed it. It was a quick read and well narrated. The story is clean and wholesome and appropriate for anyone looking for a sweet second chance romance.

I really wasn't that impressed with this installment, despite the fact that it discussed storm chasing, something that intrigues me to a degree. I felt that Lauren was selfish and entirely too reckless, Tanner was too controlling, and all of their problems stemmed from the fact that they couldn't actually communicate with each other worth a plugged nickel! There wasn't even much of an update on Cassidy and Jase, despite the fact that Tanner is Cassidy's brother! Thankfully, this was short and somewhat sweet at the end of it! Hopefully, one of the author's other series is a bit better!

After her parents passing, Lauren leaves town to be a storm chaser. Now Lauren is back and she must face the one she left behind: Tanner. When emotions get caught up with the next twister, will they both come out unscathed? Will they find forever? This was a great story, and I definitely recommend it.

OK

Lauren and Tanner had been together for three years. And then her parents died. Tanner tries fixing the unfixable and doesn’t listen to what Lauren needs to grieve. She feels alone, and bolts. And starts chasing tornadoes. I don’t really get why she’s chasing storms when one took her parents’ life. But she feels closer to them that way. She is a bit too reckless in her pursuit of that.

It’s not a happy story (although it does have a HEA). There’s sadness and grief, resentment and regret, accusations and tears, anger and unspoken apologies. They are so so young still, and they are so so serious! Where is the fun? And then, finally, there are apologies, only to be followed by more accusations… They experience the same problems over and over again, making the story one-sided. Lauren and Tanner are always arguing, which is negative energy for me. And frankly, I don’t feel as if I’ve gotten to know either of them well enough to really like them.

Luckily the story does have a bit of suspense and sweetness too. I did want to read on and finish the book. I am a huge fan of the No Match For Love series by this author and sadly, this book didn’t reach those high standards. But I will definitely continue following this author, because I know what she is capable of.

Review

Twisters and Textbooks was a delightful novella. It was a great introduction to this author. A quick read to showcase Lindzee Armstrong’s writing style. I found the pace spot on and the story grabbed me enough that I could barely put it down to go to sleep. Upon waking, I finished the book over my morning coffee. A great way to start the day.

Lauren is a storm chaser. She has been for the past four years, ever since her parents died as a result of a tornado. Classic tale…run away rather than confront your feelings head on. Problem is, when Lauren ran away, she left behind her boyfriend Tanner with only a brief note saying goodbye. Turn of events lead Lauren back to Sunset Plains to attend the funeral of a family friend.

I quite enjoyed (well…not really enjoyed…but appreciated) the angst and how it was portrayed while both Lauren and Tanner finally had to deal with the fall out from the death of Lauren’s parents. Working through the stages of grief varies with each individual and I felt that Ms. Armstrong did a good job of portraying the intricacies of this process.

There was suspense, that is for sure. With a title like Twisters and Textbooks…well I do not really need to say more. I was on the edge of my seat reading a couple Tornado scenes let me tell you. The imagery was so vivid that all I can say is “whew”.

Lest we forget, the heat between Lauren and Tanner was palpable and one could certainly see that they truly did love each other. It is what made me hope that they could work through the issues that were keeping them apart.

Frequently, when I read a novella I am left wanting…the story is not complete. I can say unequivocally that Twisters and Textbooks was a complete story, one which I could not put down. I enjoyed the journey and was left satisfied. And as such, I will be on the lookout for more titles by Lindzee Armstrong.

3.5 – This book had the ending/closure the last one was missing, it was a sweet/quick romantic fix, and I love second-chance stories like this. I thought the writing was good, I was happy to get a bit of an update about the couple from the first book, and I loved Tanner. My only problem with this book was that I wasn’t a big fan of the heroine, Lauren—she drove me crazy!! Despite having some sympathy for her grief over her parents, I really hated the way she treated Tanner—both in the past and in the present. He was a saint to continue to try with her and still want to be with her! The woman was completely infuriating and ridiculously stupid!! Things improved right at the very end, but it was almost too little too late, since I really couldn’t stand the woman at that point :( But, I did love Tanner, so I was happy things worked out for him. I also loved Shannon!! I’d love to read more about her! Maybe a romance starring Shannon?? :)

I did enjoy this book overall—despite my issues with Lauren. And the ending and epilogue were very satisfying :)

This was a clean read, just like the first book. No harsh language and just a few kisses, as far as sexual content. There were some scares and violence, with the tornados, but nothing graphic or gory.

This book wasn't bad. The plot was pretty good, and I loved Tanner. However, Lauren grated on my nerves too much.
Warning: Rant ahead.

Okay, I'm done. It was sweet, but only because Tanner was such a forgiving and sweet man.
This author knows how to make you feel like you know the characters. I would simply not recommend this book to anyone unwilling to be frustrated with a girl who doesn't exist. :)

This was a sweet, clean romance and a really good second chance at love story. Lauren and Tanner were together all through high school and were planning a life together at college and beyond when tragedy struck. Tanner couldn't understand why Lauren was constantly chasing tornadoes and she couldn't make him understand why that filled a void in her life that the deaths of her parents left.

The death of one of their teachers threw them back together in Sunset Plains. I really enjoyed this story and their attempts to resume their relationship. I loved Tanner - he was a great character and he was really willing to do anything to make things work with Lauren the second time around. I wasn't as big of a fan of Lauren - she was selfish and too quick to blame Tanner for everything. But overall, this was a quick read and an entertaining story.

What a beautiful romance story! Lauren and Tanner were high school sweethearts...until her parents died in a tornado. Then Lauren fled town to chase after tornadoes to feel close to her parents, leaving Tanner behind. Now, it's four years later, and she's a reporter, still chasing storms, and he teaches meteorology in a local college. She comes back home to say her goodbyes to a favorite teacher and runs into Tanner. Of course, they have a lot of sparks, good and bad. It makes for a emotional story, which we can all relate to. I love the close brushes with tornadoes in this story. It's heart-pounding, and keeps the reader's attention. I totally got into this romance. I highly recommend it.

This was a clean sweet story. I liked the storyline and characters. Lauren's parents were killed by a tornadoe. To feel closer to her parents she chases storms. She comes back home for a funeral and reunites with Tanner who she had broken up with after her parents death. I liked how the were able to talk about their problems and what went wrong 4 years ago. While chasing a storm in her home town she is injured and Tanner finds her. When chasing a second storm Tanner decides if she needs to do it , he'll do it with her. They get caught up in a huge tornado and she realizes, its the town that makes her closer to her parents, not chasig storms. It has a HEA.

Lauren is a young woman who chases tornados, making her feel closer to her parents whom she recently lost. Fate brings her back to Tanner, the man she left behind when she set off chasing. Armstrong is able to capture Lauren's grief and portray it so you feel it right along with her. The research put into tornado's was well done, and incorporated perfectly in Lauren's quest to chase them.
Lauren and Tanner's story is not without bumps in the road, but they have great chemistry. Twisters and Textbooks is a well-written, clean, second chance love story. A quick read with excitement, hope, and love.

I really liked this book from the start until the very end. Maybe it has something to do with living in tornado alley myself that had me encased in this book, I don't know... but what I do know is this book for me was the perfect length of a book. It was not to long or short. It tolds a great second chance story as well as a wonderful storm chancers story too. The details were so true to live that I could just see them in my minds eye. I have to wonder if Ms Armstrong did a stunt of storm chasing herself. Hope we get to revisit Tanner and Lauren in a future book (if she writes more in the Sunset Plain series I bet we will).

I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. After the death of her parents in a tornado, Lauren runs across country rather than stay and follow the plan she and her boyfriend had made. She ends up summers traveling with storm chasers. She is drawn back to her home town when a favorite teacher died, where she meets former boyfriend, Tanner at the viewing. She gives a presentation to his college class and they talk, but she is still interested in chasing storms until she nearly gets caught. The plot of this book centers on her grief and working through it. A tender book I’d recommend reading.

This fast-paced story is about love, loss, and chasing tornados. The drama and danger of an unpredictable funnel of incredible power and utter indifference is well captured as is the suffocating feeling of being wrapped in cotton wool by an overprotective loved one trying to make the hurt go away. My only "gripe" would be that the brevity of the novella did not permit adequate transition from the initial positions of the protaganists to each seeing the other's point of view; but there are plenty of lingering, thought-provoking ideas.

Lauren has returned to her hometown after running away abruptly from her high school sweetheart. She had just lost her parents after a cruel accident and Tanner, her boyfriend, was just putting too much pressure on her. Now that she has a new life, she meets Tanner again and it’s like time has stopped. Both have never forgotten one another but will their past mistakes be an obstacle to their love? This novella was such a lovely read. The story is short but fast paced, the characters are fully developed. I really recommend it

I love anything Lindzee Armstrong! I regularly receive her newsletter and immediately peruse it for whatever she may have to offer. I quickly downloaded this novella and tucked in to read it. It was definitely a category F4/5 tornado of a read! Lots of romantic regrets for this couple after four years of a heartbreaker of a split. Their reunion wasn't easy either. They had to work through stubbornness and anger before finally patching things up. Since this was a novella it was a quick read but anything written by Ms Armstrong is definitely worth the read. Good. Clean. Sweet.

This is a great second chance love story. Storm reporter Lauren chose her profession to be closer to her parents who were killed in a tornado. She returns to her home town for a funeral and is reunited with an old flame Tanner. Tanner is still upset with her for leaving so abruptly. The book is well written and the weather is very detailed and I felt like I was in the eye of the storm.. Lots of drama as they work through their relationship. Cupcakes and Cowboys - A well written, quickly read romance filled with humor and reality. The characters and dialog are realistic. The two main characters were also in Twisters and Textbooks. Another good story about second chance to experience love.

Twisters and Textbooks - A well written, quick read about being stubborn and experiencing grief and realizing what matters. While this isn't my favorite book by this author and I have many I read and love, this story is interesting about love given a second chance.

Lauren lost her parents to a tornado, so she feels like she has to chase storms to be close to them and she runs from Tanner because of her fear of getting hurt even unintentionally by those she loves. But despite this they can't deny their strong romantic connection. Tanner is willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy and not run from him again. Lauren had to realize that she what she was looking for was not in the path of a tornado, but right beside her. Sweet romance about discovering what makes you happy and bonding over love of science and meteorology.

More thriller than romance. Lauren lost her parents to a twister when she was eighteen. Her boyfriend, Tanner, wanted to protect her and fix everything. But that felt smothering to her. So she fled. Years later she returned home for the funeral of an admired teacher. The opening is rather depressing and stress filled but the ending is wonderful.

Action-packed. Entertaining. Great world building. Happily Ever After. Haunting. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

When I started the book it was okay, but then I felt like I was watching the second half of the third episode of a 90s romantic drama!

I felt like I was at the end of a story, even though I didn't get past the first quarter of the book, and I don't know. By the end, I felt like I didn't enjoy the story, something was off, and I didn't understand the motivations of both characters!

In the end, I didn't feel the characters was very maturity, they act like two children, and the ending was a very predictable and old-fashioned romantic dramatic ending.

I really felt off in this book.

This book if full of emotions and thrills. Chasing tornadoes is a frightening experience. Hurting because she lost her parents in a twister, Lauren tries to get close to them by chasing tornadoes. The premise of the story is in the synopsis; I will not repeat it. I will say that I felt that the story line and the characters are well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who likes clean romantic stories filled with thrills and real life situations.

Unfortunately, Twisters and Textbooks isn't my favorite book by Ms. Armstrong. It was a nice, sweet and short read, but just that--short. Not a lot of depth, small character development, things you'd expect from short books, but this one just didn't seem to hit the mark as much as her other work - which I usually love. I wish I had more to say, but this one fell a little short for me, sadly.

Romance: clean
