Nicole MacDonald is a thirty something year old Kiwi who loves to read and moonlights as a novelist. An avid reader from a young age, writing only occurred to her a few years ago after reading a book that didn’t quite hit the spot. Daily scribbles eventuated into the BirthRight Trilogy, an Epic Fantasy Romance with women who know how to wield a sword, AND swing a punch. A literary journey that included six months of long sword training, as well as ju-jitsu lessons, and self defence lessons for Nicole. When not writing Nicole loves to watch all manner of documentaries, escape to her family's cabin in the woods, and spend time with her other half and their fur critters. You can keep up with her writing at www.nicolemacdonald-author.com or on the BirthRight Trilogy's facebook page.
This sci fi stars a married couple in a normal, stable relationship. I was totally expecting one of them to die in the first ten pages and was shocked when they didn’t. So kudos.
The couple are Prometheans, an advanced human race created by humans, who now fear them. Some of the story involves fighting with humans or running from them, but most of it is devoted to scientific research. Overall that was pretty interesting, but it started to feel there was a lack of action, like the author didn’t want anything too bad to happen to her characters.
The book really needs editing. There are awkward sentences, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, odd usage choices, and so on. It’s pretty clean; there’s some swearing on a few pages toward the end but nowhere else. There’s some implied fade-to-black sex.
Apparently this is the prequel to a trilogy that does not exist yet.
Can humans be both the savior and the villain? The Prometheus are living the answer. Of course humans can be the villains we all know how cruel humans can be; and if there is supernatural benefits that just creates more conflict. The author is a superb world builder; she has created a world where a super race has been created but with built in controls that are finally causing the race to diminish below sustainability. A scientist guarded by a hunter, his wife, discovers a possible way to change the built-in control while battling rogue human hunters. This is a rousing tale, told from an alternate point of view. A bit of romance, some bravado and a lot of sci-fi. All in all a grand beginning to what looks to be a heck of a tale. Recommended.
A good start to what appears to be an interesting series. This story takes place in the future where the race of man and a totally different race, the prometheuans (?), exist. They will have to learn to coexist or both races can and will die out. It has aspects of one race trying to figure the situation out, while the other is trying to eradicate them. Has adventure, deceit, love, action, and investigative avenues of the scientific kind.
k, it was a while back(again), but I remember this one being one of those I would push one everyone. it's got at least a couple of levels, like the post-apocalypse dystopia, some logical progression(not always the same thing), exploitation, along with hope, a love story(without the cheese), forgotten tech, conflict(of course) which comes of as relevant, as opposed to obligatory
A good dystopian tale. The Promethians have a specific nano-virus in their blood that enhances certain capabilities in their body. They are hunted by the “humans” for their blood, but all they want is to be left alone and live a normal life.
This book caught my interest from the word go. Most dystopian novels I've read were fairly depressing. This one kept me biting my nails to see if they would survive.
