While this book augmented information from The Four Agreements, I hadn't expected it to be so short (68 pages). The majority of the book was spent by the author discussing his journey as a translator of Don Miguel Ruiz's work and a one-time attendee of a Ruiz workshop. There's no doubt in my mind that attending a workshop held by Don Miguel Ruiz would be life-changing but I'm not certain it's enough to qualify you to write a book on one aspect of his teachings and that was clear. The book is weak. Having said that there are some kernels here that are worth the read. Specifically chapters 5 & 6 (pages 39-68). This is the real value of the book but do yourself a favor and borrow it from a library. The $9.95 price tag is hard to swallow for what you actually get.

I love this book and keep it on my nightstand. I found it to be a very insightful process of forgiving others as well as myself.

Don Miguel Ruiz' ideas are reflected in this book, yet not as inspiring as Don Miguel Ruiz.

The gift of Forgiveness was not what I expected. I admit that it was my own fault for not noticing the author. I was ultimately led astray by the title of the book (The Gift of Forgiveness: A Magical Encounter with Miguel Ruiz). I thought this was another offering from Miguel Ruiz. It is not. I read The Four Agreements in 2023 and it was very useful and applicable. This however It was written by an understudy of Ruiz…if you want to call him that. It seems like the author, Oliver Clerc just went to a conference offered by Miguel Ruiz and was used as an example in one of Miguel’s “demonstrations.”

On top of being duped, I also disagree with step 2 of the “Gift of Forgives.” This is not Oliver’s fault as he was just re-telling what had happened to him and sharing his change of heart. Step 2 is to ask forgiveness from both God and the devil. As a Christian I strongly disagree with this position and consider it blasphemy. The devil does not hold power to forgive or to pass judgment. Satan merrily has the power to deceive, steal, and kill. He is not to be prayed to. It was hard to stay engaged with this book after I was encouraged to ask forgiveness from the devil. However, I do think it is important to forgive others, ask for forgiveness from God, and ultimately forgive yourself from past sins. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins and carrying around hate, bitterness, shame, guilt, ect will hold you back from experiencing the love of the Father and from loving others. Oliver kind of gets to the heart of what it means to forgive but he still misses the beauty of forgiveness. He mentions Jesus once near the end of this short read. Giving this book 2 stars. I would say don’t waste your time reading this book, your time would be much better used reading any of the gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John). Go straight to the source.

This book actually is giving us a very special tool that can help us heal parts of ourselves. We say we really need forgiveness and compassion, and never receive it from external sources, but how about giving everything we want to receive from sub else to ourselves? How about changing this blaming contest and start pointing to ourselves? How do you think the world would be if no one had any issues unsolved and they all would choose to work on themselves rather than projecting their issues on everybody around them? This book gives us information about how to break the circle in order to give us a break from suffering and pain.

I would for certain recommend.

The practice or “gift” can be very helpful. The way this was written was not. It’s self absorbed and makes little to expansion or explanation of the ceremony he’s writing about. Instead of reading a book just search Don Miguel’s forgiveness practice or exercise and you’ll get as much or more out of that.

Simple and effective

Simple and effective. The relief felt by practicing just once is awesome, but I can’t imagine really taking this on. Having practice of forgiveness, simplifies the process for the mind to not get involved. Thanks for sharing!

Nice messages and teachings, but the writing is naive and childlike.
This is a short book; still, it could’ve been much more concise.
2.5/5.0 is a generous rating.

This is the year of forgiveness. And I can certainly attest to the transformative potency of sacred events at temple sites in Mexico and in the Southwest. As long as we don't get into reverse trance crypt script...seeing the other side whilst we are still polarized is utterly humbling. That provides a tremendous release.
