A mission that can mean the difference between life and death.
One week to find the answers they need.
With the memories of her historical love for the Soul Broker who was once commissioned to harvest her soul, eradicated from her mind, Daya must embark on a perilous journey through dangerous territory to find those who might shed some light into the mystery that surrounds them. But what she uncovers along the way may prove too daunting for her to come to terms with.
Trapped in a loop she can't get out of, Daya's only tool for survival is trusting Mason. But will betrayal be a determining factor when they both have something to gain by giving up on each other?
This book is the continuation of the short story featured in the anthology, Blood in the Shadows. Midnight picks up right where Shadows left off.
Kristy Centeno loves to spin tales of creatures that go bump in the night, with a sprinkle of romance to top them off. Her passion for writing stems from a lifelong enjoyment of reading and the pleasure derived from the magical worlds created by authors like her. She prefers her female leads strong, independent, and stubborn who will stop at nothing to save their loved ones and protect those they care for.
Kristy currently resides in Pennsylvania with her five kids, a quartet of noisy parakeets, and a spoiled puppy. When she’s not working or writing, she juggles her free time between raising a handful of minions and pursuing other career goals.
This is a complex story of humans….maybe… demons, angels, soul harvesters and more.
The Prologue discusses a time long long ago. Then the story begins in modern times. Mason and his girlfriend feel like they known each other forever (that’s pretty accurate) but they also think they’ve just met. (Memory wipes?).
What they do know is lots of creatures want to kill them. And people/creatures could die.
While being well written and interesting, I must state a big objection to the ending, or lack of one. It has the sharpest cliffhanger I’ve ever read. There was no closure, no answers, no ending what-so-ever. You might wish to buy the next book before you read this one. I was very disappointed with the complete lack of an ending.
Because the book was quite engaging and enjoyable until it fell off a cliff, I’ll just ding it one star for the worst cliffhanger I’ve read. If you don’t mind cliffhangers, you’ll be in paranormal critter heaven.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I read Blood in the Shadows the prequel to this story and it made me want to jump straight into this book.
I found this book an enjoyable read, it's action packed and has lots of paranormal entities.
The characthers are very likable and you learn more of both of them as the story unfolds.
Daya is a strong woman and has an interesting back story and she proves to be not what she thought she was! Mason is meant to be collecting her soul, but he can't - he has watched her and can't understand why someone would want to hurt her. The fact he has decided not to kill her won't stop others trying!
These two have a romantic background but there doesn't seem to be much time for romance in this book, that was the only thing I wanted more of in this story - I did enjoy this book and will be adding the next book as the book ends on cliffy.
Midnight picks up right where Shadows stops. Mason and Daya are trying to uncovER their pasts and it seems that with each new thing they discover more secrets and mysteries await them. Danger is literally around every corner just waiting to ambush them. Midnight is action packed and will keep you on toes guessing what will happen next. A great paranormal read that is unique and written beautifully.
