Deadly Bloodlines

Rate this book
Beth needs to break her dad out of prison, train to fight the hunters who are after her and Amar, and find her mom. Nothing like having the world on her shoulders. Everything goes wrong, and instead of helping, she causes Amar to slowly transform back into his gargoyle form. Worse, in three nights, he'll awake as a soul-less killer and forever cursed. To save him, she must journey to Egypt and solicit the help of an ancient shifter.

Amar's growing attraction for Beth is interfering in his ability to protect her and other shifters. But can he stop the curse turning him into a granite statue during the day, and a blood-starved creature at night? If he doesn't, then there was no hope in saving Beth or the world for that matter.

Beth and Amar continue to battle for their right to live and rescue her loved ones. But with the hunters pursuing them at every step, will they succeed before it's too late?

Andrea has always enjoyed creating characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels.

What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Once she heard about a writer who never let her characters deviate from the script. If they did, she just killed them. How sad, she thought. For her one of the best parts of being a writer is letting the characters have a mind of their own and seeing where the story takes them.

She loves this quote from Robert Frost, which sums up her opinion on allowing the characters their freedom: “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
― Robert Frost

Andrea writes fantasy, paranormal, and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba.

So, that was hard to finish. While there were less punctuation and grammar mistakes than in the first one, there were still quite a few that I came across. The main character, Beth, is rather moronic. She makes at least 8 (yes, I was counting) absolutely stupid decisions in this book that takes her situation from bad to worse. It's hard to empathize with her because, well, she kinda did it to herself. I had to force myself to keep reading a few times.
The other major issue I had was the widespread overuse of deus ex machina. Oh no, Beth is nearly dead? That's ok, Wait, what? That came out of the blue.
Or when
Or when
Or when
And that's just some of them. The rules of the world seem to be made up on the fly, as new ones keep getting explained at convenient spots throughout the story.
I don't think I will be continuing to read this series. I liked the first one enough, despite all the SPAG errors, to try this one (thank goodness it was free via Kindle Unlimited) but this one tanked the series for me.

I absolutely adore this series and can’t wait for more adventures. My favorite part of this book was when Amar would tell his story about the past and stories about his sister but added an element to the story of their history and I loved that. Also, it made me feel closer to him as a character and understood why he was the way he was. Beth grew so much in this story and while she made a lot of mistakes I felt it was inevitable. Everyone in her life had been lying to her and if they hadn’t the mistakes she made wouldn’t have ever happened. But, although she did make them she never ran away. She stood her ground and fought at every turn and I respected her and loved her more for it. Jacqui finally found a love interest in Hank and I’m so excited to see where that will go. She always seemed to pop up at the right moment for Beth, what a great friend. Also, I instantly loved all the other characters instructed in this story. I’m even talking about the villains. They were so amazingly written that I couldn’t look away from the pages. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for fantasy with something different. I don’t want to spoil everything, it’s a must read for me.

I loved book 1, Shadow Bloodlines, so I was super excited to find Deadly Bloodlines. This book picks up perfectly from where the first instalment ended. Beth continues her journey… it should be pretty straightforward—rescue her dad from prison, but nothing goes to plan. She has some nasty creatures after her, and add to that Amar, her heart-throb, finds himself drawn into a terrifying situation where he might become a gargoyle forever… oh and there’s an awesome twist with him too. One of my favorite parts of the book was that Beth had to travel to Egypt and best yet, face the afterlife from ancient Egyptian mythology! You’ve got to read this book.
Another fantastic story from Cooper. She brings characters to life and takes us on a journey, leaving me wanting more. Hope book three comes out soon. Highly recommend Deadly Bloodlines to everyone who loves fantasy, suspense, and self discovery.
