Death's Kiss

Kovah: Soul Seeker

Rate this book
The night Dominic DeLuca meets a succubus, his life of all-night partying and college classes is over in an instant. Fundamentally transformed inside and out after killing her, he exists much differently for the next 10 years than he had before. When his freakish eyes and lack of aging become too much to explain, he leaves Dominic and New York behind and becomes Kovah Sanagra, the foul-mouthed, angry vampire-hunting hybrid who literally has nothing left to lose.

His new life takes him to New Orleans, where he finds pleasure in the large variety of vampires he has to choose from when he wants to kill something. But when a female vampire who had helped him in the past shows up during his hunt, he realizes he has some unresolved feelings he'd rather not deal with. Upon meeting Archie and the Rebel Riders, Kovah feels as if his life might have some purpose; some direction. But still, the female vampire keeps showing up… and when a time comes that she needs Kovah's help, is he going to repay her for how she saved him so many years ago, or will his hatred for the vampire race override what he knows he feels for her in his hardened heart?

Kovah: Soul Seeker is a Rebel Riders novel intended for readers 18 and older.

This deliciously dark, fantasy paranormal romance is the perfect escapism. After being introduced to the strong, stand-out character of Kovah in the Rebel Riders series, fans (myself included) have been eagerly awaiting this stand out novel, Kovah. A hybrid, half-vamp/half-human, turned after losing his soul to a succubus, Kovah now spends his evenings with his motorcycle friends, the Rebel Riders, eliminating vampires and, his favourites, succubae.

Kovah's character is dark, mysterious, stand-offish to most and particularly aggressive to vamps, but he is an incredibly exciting character. He may be a survivor but he has lost his life as he once knew it. He has given in to the understanding that he'll never age, and most probably never have the long term love that many enjoy. He acts the tough guy, and is often one, but deep down he knows nobody would cope easily with his experiences, and the nightmares he has are constant reminders of what happened to him.

Like PTSD, he relives the events over and over, which ultimately leave him with a peed off attitude. He has an exhilarating, dangerous past that overwhelms him. And, although a badass with aggressive tendencies, there are moments when his emotions have led to him crying in despair, in shock, for what he has done and what he has become.

However, Kovah is not as alone as he thinks. He has Archie, his boss at the motorcycle garage and leader of the Rebel Riders, along with his new companion, Nolan Bishop. After his first suspicious instincts, there becomes a growing respect and friendship between these two. To fully appreciate how Kovah and Nolan become so close it is highly recommended that the Rebel Riders trilogy (Nolan's story) be read as it details encounters between the two more intricately. And, lastly, there is Violet; the female vampire that saves him in his darkest moment, and years later comes back in his life.

To relieve his aggression, just for kicks, he has been seeing Janice, a kinky vamp that provides him with the release he needs. However, in contrast to her are his growing feelings for Violet. It is interesting to see how this situation unfolds, how Kovah deals with his feelings, especially as his strong dislike for vamps won't allow him to get too involved with one. They can't be trusted. Or, can they?

A member of the BSI (Bureau of Supernatural Investigation), Violet, has been made aware of a vamp motorcycle gang and approaches Kovah for help. His capabilities, being a hybrid, may allow him to get close and find out more. But, will Kovah get in too deep, and will he really be willing to help Violet out?

Kovah is a very suspenseful read that is complete with action, surprises, romance and fun. It is a quick read due to the pace of the story, with some excellent characters to follow, both new and old. The author has written Kovah in first person, which I enjoy as a reader simply because it allows the reader to get inside the head of the main character, understanding their thought processes, and in turn their actions/reactions.

It is a great read that fans of the series will absolutely love. As mentioned before, I strongly recommend that the whole Rebel Riders series be read to fully appreciate Kovah's character, how he stands out in the series, and to see his relationship with Nolan blossom and become a great bromance!

An Advanced Reader’s Copy was provided by the author in return for a fair and honest review.

I loved every minute of this book! Paranormal is my all time fave genre to read and Kovah did not disappoint. I have the say I was thrilled to find out Kovah had his story told and loved the journey this book took me on, from him in the beginning and flipping to his current life.

This is the fourth installment in the Death's Kiss series, and it's just as good as the first three. I'm very glad Kovah got his own story. He survived his succubus and has discovered not all vampires are bad vampires. That being said, if you've read Soul Rebel, Soul Redemption, and Soul Release, you know Kovah is a bit of an enigma, but much is revealed in this book and I understand him and his motivations far better.

As always, Ms. Pinard has left me wanting more! More Kovah, more Nolan and Charity, and more of the Rebel Riders.

I admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. Sometimes as a reader what you imagine in your head is nothing close to the reality of what the author sees.

That is exactly what happened with me and this book.

Like most fans of the ‘Rebel Riders’ series I fell in love with Kovah. You just knew that his back story would be heartbreaking and yet still great. You also knew that he had a great life coming to him, if only he could get past his anger about who he is and what his life is going to be.

When he realizes his life as he knew it was over he fled the only home he ever knew. He finally found a new place to settle in Shreveport, and a new group of friends in the Rebel Riders, who didn’t mind who he was. But despite what he and his new makeshift family he still felt like his life wasn’t complete.

When he meets up with someone from his past he begins to come alive.

In order to find Manta’s stalker he must infiltrate a biker club that is more dangerous than the one he is in already. Her stalker says that the club is out to get her. Kovah has to determine who is stalking her before it’s too late.

What he never expects is to fall in love. But could that love be stripped away from him before he gets the chance to tell her.

I’ve been a fan of CJ’s for a long time. I loved the Rebel Riders series and while I may have worried a little about how she could make Kovah loveable, I should have known better. She made him perfect. And this was an amazing book. One I highly recommend.

Ill admit that i havent yet read the rebel riders series and was worried that reading this first would mean i would miss out. Boy was i wrong. From the first page to the last i was gripped by Kovah's story...

Through a series of flashbacks we get to find out first hand how Dominic turned into Kovah. I just loved how, as a series newbie (but long time fan of CJs) i instantly fell in love with Kovah and how i just knew that his rough, dark, steely personality was a wall against all of the hurt and suffering he'd seen and felt.

After killing the evil succubus who bit him, he grows to realise, with the help of a beautiful vampire that he has become something more. More than human. A Half man, half vamp. A Hybrid. We follow him as he says goodbye to his old self, his life, his birth family. On a journey that leads him to a new family in the Rebel Riders, a new life where he learns not all vampires deserve to die. a life where he can learn to fall in love...

There was nothing i didn't love about Kovah's story. it had everything a supernatural fan-girl needs... Vamps, shifters, sex, romance, blood shed and one hell of a hot hot hot lead.

Congratulations CJ - You've done it again with another amazing read which left me yearning for more x

I shall be most certainly cracking on with the full Rebel Riders...

Since I have read some of the other Rebel Rider novels this one was one I was waiting for. From the beginning reading when this character entered the picture he grabbed my curiosity. The more I learned or seen about Kovah the more he intrigued me. He is also a example of bad to the bone in one way but also there is a heart that he denies inside. In this one she gives the meat of the man with it all laid out on how the man became the man of now. Lots of meat to sink our teeth into with also other characters if series you have read entering the picture being part of the story. Besides the guys from the shop there will be a new group of "guys" you meet and learn about in here when they begin to threaten Manta. There is also their own story too in here where these two are concerned with I do believe it sneaks up on him and wraps it slowly around him till he can be called captured lol. Excellent drama will unfold in here and be tended too also. Some indepth stuff in here but all you wanted and more especially where he is concerned. This one had me captivated until I reached the end or the last page because I do hope not the end.

I have been waiting for Kovah's book for awhile now so I couldn't wait to dive in. This book actually surprised me quite a bit. I had one idea in my head of who Kovah was but there was so much more depth and feeling to him than I expected. His story had a lot more feels than I was prepared for and it made the book that much more enjoyable.

I'm not a huge paranormal fan but I've been invested in the Rebel Riders series and now this book. The paranormal aspects are exciting and action packed and there aren't a ton of confusing details which I appreciate. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to give paranormal a chance but doesn't know where to start.

I loved Kovah. Kovah starts out as a college student named Dominic. We get to follow him thru his victimization by a succubus to becoming Kovah. Being turned into a hybrid vampire takes some getting used to, I'm talking years. I enjoyed seeing his up and downs and him realizing that not all vampires are bad.

This is another great book from CJ Pinard! I loved the Rebel Riders series and was excited to see it continue on with Kovah. It was great getting to read Kovah's back story and how he became a hybrid and also to see what was going on with Nolan and Charity. I recommend starting with the Rebel Riders series, but you could easily jump in and read this as a stand alone.

Such a good story. As someone who is new to the whole paranormal genre I wasn't quite sure what to expect but fell in love with Kovah almost instantly. His journey is not easy and we get to look back into his past with lots of detail which helps explain his character today. I don't like writing reviews with spoilers but will just say I love the ending.

Another amazing story by C.J.Pinard. I love how the story starts with how (Kovah) he becomes a hybrid vampire, full of anger and hate. He meets a vampire Violet/Manta and learns how to love. This is truly an amazing ride from start to finish.

C.J. Pinard never disappoints with her books! I wasn't sure which way she was going to go with his story... or if I was going to like Kovah or not but I absolutely love him! I never like leaving spoilers or hints but I will say he is different and I wouldn't want him any other way!
