Emancipated from Mental Slavery: Selected Sayings of Marcus Garvey
Right now melanin, the aromatic biopolymer and organic semiconductor that makes Black people black is worth over $350 a gram more than gold. In just a few short years, on August 13, 2020 the Red, Black and Green flag will be celebrated as the colors of all African people. We also know the song lyric "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds," commonly associated with Bob Marley, actually originated with Marcus Garvey.
“We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, for though others may free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind.”
Those are the words which Marcus Garvey spoke in either October or November 1937. The place? Menelik Hall in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This selection of sayings of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, provides an introduction to the mind of a man capable of speaking words into existence which continue to have a profound impact on those who hear them to this very day.
Marcus Garvey was a journalist, editor, publisher, as well as founder, and President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA.) This book serves as an introduction to the philosophy which made his ideas known worldwide. Notable among them is the phrase which has come to many sung as a paraphrased lyric by Bob Marley. Its organic power and compelling urge for a new mental state among the human race can not seriously be denied.

Unlike his namesake, Zik of Africa, he was born in Washington, D.C. Terms used to describe him include tall, nna (daddy,) brother, systems analyst, “Producer”Personified,” editor, researcher, writer, and arrogant.
Azikiwe lived his early years in D.C. before relocating to Chicago, Kansas City, and Concord, North Carolina ultimately returning to the city of his birth. A graduate of the University of the District of Columbia, he has spent various amounts of time in Haiti, Mexico, Canada, the Bahamas, Ethiopia, Italy, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, South Africa and England.
He formed the Mhotep Corporation in 2003 as part of transition from information technology of the digital kind into animated motion picture production. Since then the company has expanded its offerings to include games, books, and t-shirts in addition to its online home, Keyamsha.com.
The Mhotep Corporation uses its Keyamsha The Awakening brand as a means to heighten perceptions and expand awareness. By producing content to "engage, entertain and educate" the company creates value for value relationships with its audience for mutual benefit. The name Mhotep is derived from Imhotep, architect and builder of the first pyramid in Sakkara, Kemet (so-called ancient Egypt) who was also Vizier for Pharoah Djoser.

Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican political activist, publisher, philosopher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. He was the founder of the UNIA(Universal Negro Improvement Association) and the ACL(African Communities League). Mental slavery is a state of mind where discerning between liberation and enslavement is twisted.
Emancipate is to set free, especially from legal, social, or political restrictions. It’s when one becomes trapped by misinformation about yourself and the world. This book is a collection of sayings by Marcus Garvey during his lifetime that was spoken to the men of Africa and others as well. I call these sayings "positive affirmation" to the black man. Two of his memorable sayings are "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds," commonly associated with Bob Marley, actually originated with Marcus Garvey and “We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, for though others may free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind.” Black men, you need to pick up this book and get inspired. You don't have to live in Africa or be African to learn from his teachings. Very powerful book.

Short title with selected words from Marcus Garvey. Now you don’t have to remember every syllable that Garvey utters but it’s good to take away the basic information. Every child of Africa should at least have a copy of this.

It is a quick read but the information is heavy. Gives great insight on future of African people all over the world. One God, One Aim, One Destiny. Marcus Garvey was a great man his work and message is as powerful today as it's ever been.

This is a good introduction to the thoughts of a truly great man who continues to teach us all the meaning and value of true freedom. Marcus Garvey remains a principal leader of Africans worldwide.

Marcus explaining his viewpoint eloquently and directly. If you are seeking an understanding of what he stood for then read this great book. It was deserving of 5 stars because it’s present day value.

Great Book! Marcus the Great!...
Hats off to Amy Garvey. This was self-help guru-ism before there was a niche industry for it. Garvey has long been a favorite. I am so pleased that I learned of him at the start of my adult life. Garvey is no critical race theorist. Just a straight up truth-seeking, truth-telling soul. Had the right-wing racists (Hoover, et. al.) not persecuted him, they would have saved the USA scores of needles insurrections, riots and political nihilism among Africans in America over many decades. Now we are reaping the outcome of the injustice against him. Men today do not match up.

Black Empowerment
The sayings and teachings of Marcus Garvey spoke more to Black empowerment than anyone of his time. The Boule and its 9 illegitimate children were started to keep the Black masses under the oppressive control of white supremacy and to, as WEB DuBois said, “stop Garvey”. How sad our community was then and continues to be.

Brilliant
It is amazing that he wrote about the black peoples state of being many years ago, and I can see it manifesting today. He was extremely insightful. I am always preaching about the need for black people to unite, but the mental state of slavery today makes it extremely challenging. There are many who walk around with their Eyes Wide Shut.

RISE UP YOU MIGHTY PEOPLE
Its important to have and be able to preserve sayings and collections of serious critical thoughts by someone who cared so deeply for the future of his people. To have a vision, and psychological blue print that still resonates today and could and should be used for unification… Hopefully one day….
