Murphy's War

by Robert Lewis, Elizabeth Murphy

Murphy’s War maps the fortunes of a group of young men from rural Australia who enlist and serve with the A.I.F during The Great War. (1914 – 1918) Through a mixture of first hand accounts, diaries, letters and anecdotes, Australia’s war is reconstructed through the eyes of the ordinary men who fought for their country and for their lives. At the centre of the story is Frank Murphy, whose narrative brings to life the culture, courage and unique perspective of the A.I.F on The Western Front. Murphy’s War is less a history of battles or military heroes, but rather a snapshot of the collective psyche of those Australians who endured one of history’s bloodiest and most destructive wars.
