Properly Groomed

Rate this book
When Joya Bennett wakes up after her brother’s wedding, half-naked and lying next to her lifelong crush, she’s mortified. OMG, did she try to jump his bones? Worse, did she succeed? Intending to lay low and housesit for her brother until the embarrassment fades, she sneaks away before he wakes up.

What she didn’t plan on is having company.

Lincoln Fisher doesn’t do relationships, but if he did, his friend’s little sister would be the one to tie him down. Good thing Joya had one too many drinks during the reception or he’d have crossed a line. Her brother would kill him if he found out all the places Linc wanted to kiss the sexy, auburn-haired beauty.

And now they’re stuck in the same house. For two weeks.

She’s off-limits. And he needs to keep it that way, even if the heat building between them is hot enough to blow off the roof…

This was a cute novella about Joya and her brothers best friend, Linc. They've resisted their attraction for years but when they are thrown together for two weeks in the same house, all bets are off.

It you want something light, fun and a bit of spice to read, this fits the bill. ARC provided by NetGalley.

It is a rare occasion when a book that Entangled Publishing has put out doesn't knock my socks off. Unfortunately, this is one of those times.

I think that the big take-away that I had with this one was the fact that I was able to put it down. It just didn't hold my attention and make me feel like I was losing a part of myself when I had to put this book down.

I really didn't connect with any of the characters. They were okay ... but not one of them was one that I thought about after the pages were closed. To be honest, I finished this one a while ago and when I got it back out to write this review, I couldn't remember even one quality about any of the characters. Actually, I couldn't even remember what their names were. That's not a good sign.

The meat of the story was just okay as well. Nothing that stuck out as funny or sweet or memorable. It was just okay. The pace of the book was fine but it felt stale. The romance was lacking something - excitement. I didn't get those butterflies when Lincoln and Joya were together, I didn't get that palpable chemistry that I love so much when reading.

All of these issues might be because I haven't read the other two books in the series. Absolutely. Maybe that is what was wrong with this reading experience. It could very well be the disconnect that I felt.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be picking up another book from this author. This one just wasn't for me.

Properly Groomed is a book about two friends who have have a forbidden desire to be together.

Joya and Linc have known each other for years. In fact Linc is Joya's brother's Best friend.

The story opens with Joya and Linc in bed together after her Brother's wedding after a few too many drinks!

Too embarrassed to stick around in fear Joya has done something she regrets she sneaks off to her brothers home to house sit while they are on their honeymoon.

Unbeknown to Joya, Linc too has been invited to stay there as he is currently homeless.

Without giving anything else away, the two don't find it easy.

I could not put this book down!
Boone created tension, passion, excitement. Each page left me wanting to read more.
Will they get together?
Will the sexual tension become too much?
I just had to find out more.

I loved how Boone built up the drama and chemistry between Joya and Linc. You could clearly see they was forbidden but we all want what we can't have!

I loved the ending of the book, towards the end I was apprehensive as to what was going to happen. There was little twists to keep you guessing.

I only hope Boone writes another book as there are questions I really need answering. I want to know more.
When you read this book you will understand what I mean.
The book finishes great but there is more to be read!

I highly recommend Properly Groomed. It really sizzles and excites.
It has something for everyone, romance, sizzling passion, comedy, drama and friendship.

Waking up after a night of partying at your brother wedding and who is in the bed next to you? Oh that’s just your brother’s hot best friend that you spent the night flirting with. Perfectly normal, yup even without a single memory if you crossed the line of no return. So what’s the perfect way to handle that situation? Sneak out before he wakes up. Oh yeah with a start like that I knew this was going to be a good read. Joya is staying at her brother’s house to pet sit while he’s on his honeymoon only problem is she soon finds out that his best friend is staying with her. Linc just sold his condo and while he’s house shopping, his best friend offered him to crash at his home. Linc knows his friend won’t approve if he ever crossed the bro code of ‘thou shall not hook up with thy best friend’s little sister’ but with heavy flirting, chemistry, and close confines that a recipe for something to go down. And go down it does! I really loved this book! I would give it 4.5 stars!

Joya wakes up the morning after her brother's wedding in bed with his best friend. Mortified that she doesn't remember what happened, she takes off and leaves him sleeping in bed. Since she'll be spending a couple weeks at her brother's place, taking care of his new bride's iguana while they are on their honeymoon, she figures it's the perfect chance to lay low and keep her distance from Linc. However, that plan goes up in flames when Linc shows up at the house claiming her brother offered to allow him to crash at his place while he looked for a house. Now, Joya not only has to face that one night and the fact that she snuck out on him, but she also has to deal with her feelings for him.

Properly Groomed was a light, easy, sweet read that honestly didn't have any drama. It was just a story about two people who were attracted to each other, stuck sharing a house together for a couple of week, who end up testing the waters to see where their attraction leads them. It was really cute watching Linc make Joya breakfast after she came home from a long night at work, or when he showed up to her work with a package of food from one of his restaurants so that she would have something to eat while working at the studio. Needless to say, I thought these two were adorable.

One thing I liked and kind of wished we had more of was some behind-the-scenes of Joya and Linc's job. Joya is a producer for the local news and while we get to follow her in the office, we only see her gabbing with her friend or arguing with her co-worker, we didn't really get a lot of behind-the-scenes. As for Linc, we got nothing. He owns restaurants and is always taking off in the book to go to work but we never get a chance to follow him there even though the book is partially in his POV. I would have liked a little bit of their personal stories mixed in instead of it just being the two of them cooped up in the house together.

I also really wish there was more time with Dash, the iguana. I know that's a weird thing to say but I mean, most romances include a dog or cat for comedic relief or whatnot, and while there is a dog in this story, I was hoping Dash would get some spotlight too. However, we see more of the dog than the iguana. Heck, I kept forgetting he was even in the house except for those few times he was brought up. Actually there was that one time where I had completely forgotten who Dash was. Like I said, I know it's weird to be sad to not get more lizard time in a romance novel but I love iguanas and was really hoping for some awesome scenes with Dash. Like, maybe Dash escapes his tank and Linc wakes up to a four foot iguana at the end of his bed or something. Poor Dash got the shaft in this one.

Properly Groomed is a sweet romance that will leave you wanting an iguana. No? Just me? Alright then. Anyway, this is a quick romance novel that is perfect for anyone looking for a light read. It had no drama, some light comedy, and the brother's best friend love trope.

Favorite quote...
"Linc stood at the stove, dressed only in a pair of low-slung jeans. It was like a real-life rendition of the photos girlfriends osted on their social media pages. This cation would read: How about a little sexy with your bacon.

I haven’t read the previous two stories in the series but I still might. I really liked this story, it’s a quick read and I loved the fact that Joya and Linc already knew each other and the story focused on their mutual attraction. What I loved most about this story is the fact that there wasn’t actually a ‘break up’ after which the couple had to find their way back to each other. I liked that, for a change, they just tried to figure out the relationship individually while still being together. Super cute.

3.5 “Best friends, new house and cute pets” Stars

ARC via NetGalley.

Thank you, Entangled!!

This is my first book by Boone Brux and somehow it's the middle of one of her series. I don't think I realized I was requesting the third book in the Wedding Favors series, but I'm glad I did it anyway.

Properly Groomed's first chapter left me wondering for a few minutes if I'd be able to follow the story as I had not read the first two books, but that feeling was quickly pushed away as I kept reading.

This is the sweet, cute and sexy story of Joya, who's a bridesmate at her brother's wedding and a woman in love with his best friend. She's been into Linc for ages, but she never made a move, partially because Linc was her older brother's friend and partly because Linc was known for not wanting a serious relationship. Somehow, though (and I mean somehow because we don't get to see how they got there in this book), Joya wakes up the day after her brother's wedding half-naked and in bed with Linc. Talk about awkward.

Joya flees the scene, but the next day she finds herself face to face with Linc again. He's going to be spending some time at her brother's place since he's just sold his old place and is looking for a new house now. The thing is, Joya has also agreed to stay at the house to take care of her sister-in-law's pet (an iguana). There'll be no escaping Linc after that.

Not that he wants her to escape him, either. Not now that he has finally looked at his friend's little sister and seen the woman she has become. A woman he's much too interested in getting to know better. A lot better.

Look, once I got past the confusion with being thrown into the story as it seemed to have already started (with Joya and Linc in bed), things progressed just about the way I wanted. Linc made it impossible for Joya to resist him by being super sexy and sweet. As a restaurant owner, he even cooked for her multiple times. A man after my heart!

Joya didn't try to resist him all that much, either, which made sense considering she had a thing for him already. Not that she could resist a man that cooked for her shirtless. I mean, who would?

Together, Joya and Linc had a lot of chemistry. Their scenes went from hot to sweet back to hot. Just the way I like it. The fact that Joya and Linc knew each other for a while made progressing from friends to lovers a little smoother. I still wished the whole falling in love thing had been a tiny less insta, but, again, the "being friends for years" was a good way out.

With the help of Linc's dog and his seating-on-people's-foot obsession, the story was even cuter. The iguana also helped with that job. I love when the author can fit pets into a love story. It's always a plus for me.

The only reason I didn't rate this higher was because of the subplot involving Joya's job. I didn't exactly agree with her decisions involving her job, and I didn't even understand her reasons until much later on, when she finally talked to Linc and explained why she did what she did. Even then, I'm not sure she made the right call. It just made me feel slightly uncomfortable to see a woman make a decision like that, especially when she hadn't even talked about their relationship prior to making that call.

Other than that, the rest of the story really worked, especially the dynamic between the two main characters. I also loved the interaction between Joya, Linc and the rest of their friends. Too bad we didn't get to see it until much later on. Either way, I read the last couple of chapters with a big smile on my face. It was that adorable.

Properly Groomed was a quick, sexy and sweet read that introduced me to a new author and made me want to read more books in that series. I bet you'll feel the same way if you give this book a chance, too.

One of the things I love about series like these is you don't have to read the previous books. Each one can be read as a stand alone.

I honestly love stories where you crush on your sibling's friend. It adds a forbidden element because you're pretty sure your sibling isn't going to react well to the fact that you like their friend.  My one pet peeve is that the friend doesn't notice you until you've grown up, while you've been pining over them for years.

Linc and Joya are freaking awesome when they're forced to stay in the same place while Joya's brother and wife are on their honeymoon. I love that Linc teases her, and she teases back some of the time. Mostly she's just kind of freaked out that Linc is showing an interest in her.  Both of them have careers that could potentially decrease the time they can see each other.

The sex scenes are HOT! I love the chemistry between the two and the emotion even when they kind of try to deny that there are feelings involved.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. The opening chapter is awesome and makes you want to turn the page to find out how they are going to get over the awkward. It's a quick read and can easily be read in a few hours.

Three and a half stars.

Joya Bennett wakes up after her brother’s wedding, lying next to Lincoln Fisher, the best man and her brother's best friend. She has had a crush on him for ages but now she's blown all that. As she sneaks away doing the walk of shame she plans to avoid Linc for as long as humanly possible - only to discover that the two of them will be sharing her brother's house for two weeks: she is babysitting her sister-in-law's iguana, Dash, and he is temporarily homeless while looking for a new house.

Despite the embarrassing circumstances, Joya and Linc find themselves settling into a strange sort of domesticity - but can it last past the two weeks? Is Linc able to commit to a relationship? Will Joya's potential new job make their relationship impossible? What will Joya's brother think about this hook-up? Can a restaurateur ever be in a relationship with a woman who's culinary expertise ends at PB&J sandwiches?

This was fun. Low on angst and easy to read.

Joya Bennett woke up on the wrong side—of someone else’s bed. To make matters worse, it wasn’t even her own bed. Her brother’s wedding led to excessive partying and an entanglement with his best friend, on whom she has endured a long-standing crush.
Lincoln Fisher is a confirmed bachelor, enduring his lust for his best friend’s little sister at a distance. Waking up the morning after his friend’s wedding in bed with the little sister is bad enough. But now, he’s staying at his friend’s house while the wedded couple are on their honeymoon—along with Joya.
Lust plus difficult working hours leads to an array of impossible problems.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but won’t be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style, pace, and knack for snarky dialogue/situations made this a thoroughly enjoyable read. I found the primary characters engaging and the romance tastefully hot.
The plot flowed flawlessly while the author unfolded the trials little by little and in a way that kept my attention. Five stars for a book well-written and a job well done

3 stars!

I love a friends turned romance novel. I really love when it is brother's best friend and brother's little sister. This type of book is my favorite type. So Properly Groomed was my idea of a fun and quick read. Joya has always had a thing for Linc. So, when she gets drunk and ends up in bed with Linc, things start to look up for her.

Things really heat up with Linc and Joya end up both staying at her brother's place for 2 weeks. Both have a reason to stay there, but not for the reason's you would think. What could happen in 2 weeks ??

Linc is the typical bad boy who never wants to settle down and Joya is so in love with him, she sees this as a perfect opportunity to make something happen.

This was a sweet story. No real drama or excitement. Just a cute little story about 2 people who were destined to be together.

Interested in a light-hearted romance with characters you quickly care about who behave like mature people not riddled with angst or emotional tantrums and respond to situations rationally? This, me dears, is that book.

Well written and plotted, Properly Groomed was a pleasure to read. I liked both Joya and Linc whose chemistry made the book sizzle. Plus, I am always a fan of romances where the woman or man’s long-lived crush comes to fruition.

~ SUMMARY~

The story opens up slowly like a flower coming into bloom. In its own time. Yes - it has a predictable ending. That's the whole point of picking this type of read. I want the girl to get the guy. I want love to conquer all. I definitely want my happily ever after to happen to the girl next door. Because it gives me hope that it could happen for me.

Score: 4/5

Boone Brux melts her readers hearts with Properly Groomed!

Joya's always had a thing for Linc but he was her brothers best friend so she didn't think she had a chance until her brothers wedding after which she woke to a naked Linc in bed with her.
Unsure what to do she quickly dressed and headed to her brothers place to babysit her sister in laws beloved iguana for their two week honeymoon only problem was Linc showed up minutes later because he was staying there while house hunting . With no other option but to stay there together the two quickly give into the heated passion that has always been simmering between the two . But what will happen once her brother realizes he and his wife had double booked house sitters ? His best Friend and his baby sister ? Warning Linc off should have been the end of it but where two hearts are involved nothing is quiet so easy.
Boone Brux delivers a heart melting romance that has the added benefit of melting readers panties... As the pages spontaneously combust with the interaction of Joya and Linc ! So get ready to fall in love with Boone Brux as she makes you lose your heart to Joya and Linc in Properly Groomed !

A sweet romance about the lusted after brother's best friend and the girl he never noticed until he was put in the same house with her for two weeks. Linc owns a string of restaurants and Joya (what a cute name) is a TV news producer. They are sharing a house, Joya is pet sitting her brothers pet while he is on his honeymoon and Linc is staying there till he can buy a house to accommodate his new dog

Sparks fly and the sex scenes are steamy when these two decide to get together. Can their romance continue when her brother returns? Will their different work hours keep them apart? Be sure to read this book to experience their delightful adventure to their HEA.

Good not great

I enjoyed this story a lot but I didn't find myself very invested in how it would turn out. Not only that but I wasn't particularly interested in knowing the stories of the supporting characters either. Not sure what could have been done to punch up the story but it needs it. Quick, decent read but not my favorite.

Joya Bennett has had a crush on her brother's best friend for as long as she can remember, so when she wakes up next to him, half naked, she is mortified. So she sneaks away before Lincoln wakes up. Next thing she knows, is that he is staying at her brother's house at the same time she's house sitting their pet. How will she ever get him out of her mind when she's stuck in a house with him for two weeks? This story was so sweet, and yet super hot at the same time. I couldn't put it down until I devoured it. I have never read Boone Brux, but I will change that now, as I really enjoyed her talented writing style. Well placed humor had me laughing hard, and the sexy scene goodness is panty destroying in it's hotness. My one issue was the ending was a bit too rushed for me, as I wanted more of Joya and Linc desperately! Nonetheless, I'll still HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fast paced, entertaining story!

Boone Brux went with the obvious approach. Properly Groomed is a theme every romance reader is familiar with, but still can't get enough of. The exotic animal and the unusual dog were a nice touch. Comfort, laughter and happily every after are all there for me to enjoy in Ms. Brux's stories.

3.5 stars! (I received an ARC from NetGalley.)

I found this story to be absolutely adorable and very drama free. It was a quick and fun read.

The two main characters are Lincoln (Linc, for short) and Joya. Joya is Linc's best friend's little sister and she has been harboring a crush on Linc for years but she never expressed how she felt about him. Until the night after her brother's wedding, she found herself waking up in a hotel room next to Linc. She was mortified because she didn't want Linc to know her feelings about him so she snuck out of the room.
Later on, Linc and Joya ended up staying in Kyle's (Joya's brother and Linc's bestie) home - Linc needed a place to stay while house searching and Joya was asked to stay to take care of Roxy's (Kyle's wife) pet iguana.
Obviously staying together for 2 weeks caused some sexual tension between the two. Linc is a known bachelor, so would he be able to settle down with Joya? Who know? Read the book and find out!

Joya woke up and everything hurt from too many cosmopolitans the night before at her brother and good friends Rory’s wedding. Joya Joya had been a bridesmaid and the thundering headache and awful thirst was her punishment fro over indulging. But unfortunately Joya had to get up and could not just sleep her hangover away. Then she realized there was a naked man in bed with her. Joya then realized who it was by his tan skin and muscled back. I t was Lincoln/Linc her brother’s best friend she had raging lust for this man for a long time Yet she thought she showed the world she could care less about her brother’s friend Linc. Joya still had her bra and underwear on but couldn’t remember if anything had happened. She was also in Linc’s suite and she hurriedly left to go back to her own room. Linc then opened his eyes once Joya had left. Linc wasn’t surprised Joya had left but he had hoped that they would have finished what they had started last night. Joya had been too drunk and Linc would not take advantage of her. But Linc would never just think of Joya as Kyle's little sister ever again or almost like just one of the guys as last night Joya had become a beautiful woman to Linc. Linc had almost got to the point of no return but had had somehow managed to stop. Linc had started to think about a future as an adult not just a bachelor. Linc had even sold his bachelor condo and was staying at Kyle’s until he found a house to buy. Also staying at Kyle's he could stay away from the enticing Joya or so Linc thought. But Joya was also staying at the house to take care of her friend and sister in law’s four foot lizard that Rory had been raising and taking care of since Rory was ten. Maybe Linc and Joya wouldn’t see much of each other….
I absolutely adored this story. It was a fast and just sweet read also a romantic love story. I loved how Joya thought no one knew how she had crushed on Linc for a long time but others did see it. I also liked the fact Linc was already thinking of settling down before he ever slept with Joya and started to care. I also loved how Rory had meddled in her friends lives and decided to set them up into couples and it eventually worked for the couples including Linc and Joya. i loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite genres of romances to read, and I loved this one by Boone Brux. It was the perfect combination of sweet and sexy! Lincoln and Joya have been friends for a long time, but after Joya’s brother’s wedding, things might be changing. Then, add in the two weeks the two spend together house sitting for her brother and his new wife, and the lines of friendship and lovers get a bit blurred. Both know the other is totally off limits…Joya knows if she is rejected by Linc her heart will be crushed, and their friendship will never be the same. Linc doesn’t do relationships, but if he were to ever give it a shot, he would for Joya. However, there is the problem of her big brother. Even though he’s Linc’s best friend, he will still kill him if he hurts her. What ensues is a wonderful, sexy, sweet, and humorous journey of watching two people realize they are in love with one another.

It won’t be an easy road to their HEA. They have a lot of feelings and lust to work through. Their romance will make your toes curl in a very good way though! I loved how the book is told through both of their POVs. I always enjoy knowing what each character is thinking. And, I loved both Joya and Linc as well as the secondary characters. Of course, Linc was gorgeous, but his greatest quality was his love for Joya and his sense of humor. Joya was intelligent, and she also had a great sense of humor. She was someone I would want as my best friend. The two were wonderful together!

Brux gave readers a great storyline with great characters who have awesome chemistry! If you are looking for a romance with quirky, funny characters, complete with a cute rescue dog and a loveable iguana (yes, a loveable iguana), then I highly recommend reading this one as well as the others in the series.

A fun and tender romance worth every minute of reading. "Properly Groomed" is a stand alone novel in Boone Brux's Wedding Favors series. I hadn't read the previous books in the series and I had not a moment of confusion. The hero, Linc, is a womanizer who is feeling the desire to settle down. Unfortunately the woman he wants is his best friend's little sister. The hero is an extremely likeable man. The book isn't really long enough for him to really stretch his Alpha muscles but he's hot, can cook, and has a rescue dog. The trifecta. If he spoke Italian he'd be unstoppable. The heroine, Joya, is feisty and independent. She wants to protect herself from a broken heart but she's secretly been in love with Linc for years. The premise is cute, the storyline is engaging, characters are charming, and the pace moves along nicely.
Boone Brux's "Properly Groomed" is a sexy, fun, and delightful read. Joya and Linc are a fabulous hero and heroine. The premise, of the couple believing there isn't any option other than both house-sitting together isn't too contrived. The timeline from playful teasing to lusty sex is logical and entertaining to read. Both Joya and Linc undergo character growth in this short novel which is impressive. The resolution is extremely satisfying for the Happily Ever After. The sex scenes are racy and steamy. As they should be. And as I've said before Linc and Joya are incredibly likable and charismatic characters. The dog Chester is adorable. "Properly Groomed" is a stand alone novel. You need not have read the preceding books in the series to enjoy it. However, I really want to go back and read the books that I missed. This book was a pleasure to devour.
