Rate this book
He's seen his fated mate die a thousand times... and yet, they've never met.

Crew is a powerful, yet tortured, wolf shifter. With a weary heart, he seeks to avoid fulfilling a prophecy that foretells the death of his fated mate...true love lost before it has a chance to begin.

Dahlia has seen her death at the hands of a demon many times, and the vision is starting to destroy her mind. Giving up on her sanity, her only hope is that death will come well and swift.

But when she meets Crew, that all changes. For the first time in many years, she wants to see what happens after the blood spills from her fatal wound. Something in her heart says, with Crew, the last time will not be the end...

(This book can be read as a standalone, no cliffhanger, but you will enjoy it more if you read books 1 and 2 first.)

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎🖤💜

Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😠😘🤓😍

Narration Type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Crew - works for the Serenity police department, an all wolf shifter department that protects humans against the demon Khain. There was nothing Crew wanted more than his one true mate, but Khain had promised that when Crew found her and fell in love, he would take her from Crew and kill her. Crew knew this was his fate as he was a gifted seer who had connected his mind to Khain’s when he was just thirteen years old.

The heroine: Dahlia - she first appeared in Dragon’s Heat when she helped free the cats from the spiders, since she works for the ASPCA. Dahlia dreamed of her own death over and over. She dreamed of herself in a whole different world each night when she went to sleep, and thought she was going crazy at times. Yet she somehow knew that she would die in the real world very soon. She knew that this winter would be her last.

The Story: Since Crew first sent his consciousness into Khain’s he has been a tortured soul. Khain killed Crew’s father and had proven to Crew that Khain had left a bit of himself inside of Crew and could use that to his advantage. Crew was determined to get that bit of Khain out of his head though every time he tried he was hit with intense pain.

This was a very different type of story than any I have read before. Both Crew and Dahlia went to another world when they slept, one where the town of Serenity was called Tranquility and Khain didn’t exist, neither did Ren who in the real world was the god that created the shiften. Crew and Dahlia first meet at a rut in their dreamworlds.

Like the previous two books this one was narrated in Solo narration by Michael Pauley. He seems to be getting better as the series goes on. He is doing better at multiple voices and isn’t as monotone as he was in the first few books. He is showing more emotion in his voice. I liked this story and the multiverse they travelled through. It was very interesting.

This is book 3 in Lisa Ladew’s One True Mate series. While each book covers a couple’s romantic arc - there is a big (and several secondary) mystery/suspense storyline running through the series. In that aspect these don’t really stand alone and need to be read in order starting with Shifter’s Sacrifice. Reviews may contain spoilers to earlier books.

The time bending/traveling aspect of this book made it a little hard for me to get into at first - but ultimately made for a great adventure. Not only in Crew meeting Dahlia, but his visions coming true, and them having to find each other again.

The pacing was great and I enjoyed how Ladew weaved the romance and series suspense story arc together. I also like how well she balances all the secondary characters in without taking away from the main couple.

I’m looking forward to Beckett’s book next.

Narration:
Michael Pauley’s narration gets more dynamic with each book. He keeps the character voices consistent - and there’s a lot of them. Making the series easy to binge.

I was looking forward to Crew’s story because he was so fascinating in the other two books. This story didn’t disappoint. He knew Dahlia, but didn’t know her, when he met her in the first dream-world where’s she’d just been killed, yet not killed. Then when she disappeared after they’d spent time together he was beside himself looking for her when she returned to their world.

When he found her again it was where he watched Khain kill her for about the thousandth and he could do nothing to help her. (That part reminded me of Groundhog Day.) It went back and forth from one world to another, until he found her for the last time and they returned to their time and world. It really was an exciting book. I’d just fill this review with spoilers if I told you all that went on between Crew and Dahlia.

There was some really hot and explicit sex. There might have been too many pages of it, but that’s just my opinion.

And the F-bomb was used 31 times.

As to the narrator: Michael Pauley was simply fantastic. His reading skills and emotions are awesome.

Dahlia & Crew are a great couple & they're meant to be together in the different worlds they kept stepping into. Dahlia through death & Crew through sleep & they are perfect together.
We also see how Trevor & Elle & Graham & Helen are which is really good to see how they are. Which I can't wait to see how Crew & Dahlia are as I did feel disappointed how suddenly Shifter's Echo finished

I liked this book but all the different worlds for me was a it much. I really wanted to give this a 5 but so much was going on and at times I did not know which world was the real world and what was really happening. But I did love Crew and Dahlia. Their story was great!!!

Sister's and Brothers.

It's interesting how each woman is already connected and embrace when meeting for the first time. The guys already have a tight bond with one another, one big happy family. Can't wait to start the next chapter.

Least fave of the series thus far. I think it is getting a bit ridic with the parallel universes, but I'm still reading them to see what finds out. I think the writing is getting better though!

One True Mate 3

I'm really enjoying how each MFC is different in this series. They each have different abilities that match the guys they end up with. And I really enjoyed how this MFC turned out to be super powerful and saved both of them in the end. With just her imagination.

I was uncomfortable about how the MFC describes this encounter from her past,

“It made her feel small, weak, and cowardly and called up a memory of a time she’d been cowardly, letting her date force himself on her without fighting him hard enough, staying still to save herself pain in the moment, not realizing what it would cost her emotionally.”

She uses this memory to remind herself to be strong but still, I would have liked more acknowledgement that silence is never a “yes” and guys need to learn this. One of the things I really applaud about today's romances is that so many of them are defining consent and showing the many ways it can be expressed and denied.

My favorite guy bullshit lines,

“I didn’t faint,” Crew growled, knowing he had.
“Ok…” Beckett drawled, moving back a bit. “Were you testing the floor for hardness with your face?”

I am enjoying these more than I thought I would

Re-read: 6/12/2020

Chapter 14 always seams a bit misplaced to me, more like it belongs between D's first chapter and her landing in Crew's second world

I truly love Mac in Crew's alt world. He is so caring and attentive, a true friend. And it is interesting how from alt world to alt world people are different from their true nature. I do like though that Mac still has the cereal obsession in both worlds, for different yet same reasons.

I've re-read this series several times and this is the first time I've actually liked Crew. I'm not sure why, maybe the jumpyness of the story or something else, but Crew never really interested me. but this time I focused more on his relationship and how caring he was for Dahlia. I liked that he let her use her power in the cave, that he did not hold her back.

The story line is a bit hard to follow, b/c of all the world jumping, but it was interesting to see the different worlds play out.

Book 3 crews story

This is book 3 in the series. Please read them in order since they are about finding their mates and filling a prophecy. Plus it would help with knowing the characters and their powers. This story was harder to fallow do to the dream worlds.
Overview. This is Crew's story. He knows that his mate will be killed and taken from him because of Khain the bad demon. So crew has been fighting destiny so that his mate could live. But when he meets Dahlia his mate in the dream world/ alternate reality he knows that he can no longer go without having her. But Crew and Dahlia learn that they can be together if they work together.

Messin' with my head

Ever had a book kinda freak you out? A little too philosophical or too close to psychedelic dreams you have had? If you like that feel, go ahead and read it. If you don't like that feeling, you are warned now you can read in peace. Just remember there is always a happy ever after.

Unique PNR w/ travel to other earthly dimensions

I do NOT consider this to be a stand-alone read. There are reoccurring characters, overlapping / consecutive timelines and overarching themes. I highly recommend that this series be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers.

⛔️ If you have not read the previous stories in the series, then the following may contain spoilers.

Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, semi-steamy adult intimate scenes and violence such as kidnapping / abduction, torture, references to mental illness, rape, murder, betrayal, assault, mental and physical abuse, etc.

There are a few grammatical issues, mainly incorrect, missing and extra words. I am trying to make sure to include this for readers like myself who visualize the story as it is read, and when errors occur they disrupt it.

The world building in this story is a little chaotic based upon the storyline, but I felt that Lisa Ladew did a great job keeping the reader involved. The characters are solid and I have to admit that Crew is one of those I was impatiently waiting to read. The pace is good. I gave it 4 stars since there were a few gaps and the occasional scene were I had to go back and review.

Here is a high-level overview of how the story begins:

Crew is part of the SKRT, or Serenity Khain Response Team, and he is a traveler. When he sleeps, his physical body disappears, and he “travels” to another dimension. All of the dimensions are different in someway or another, such as how fast or slow time moves. There is one dimension that Crew travels to the most, and in that world, all of the female shiftens are still alive, Mac is Crew’s best friend, and Mac’s sister has a crush on Crew much to his chagrin.

When Crew was 13 his conscious self traveled to the Pravin, the realm where Khain lives. He thought he was basically invincible, but found out very quickly that Khain was a lot stronger than he was, especially at that age. Khain caught him and said that when Crew found his mate and fell in love that he would kill her. Crew seen a vision of how she died, with Khain’s hand around her neck, and her hitting the snow before he can shift and get to her.

All of his wolven brothers are aware of what happened with Khain and keep trying to figure out a way to save her. Part of the issue is Crew doesn’t know her name or even what she looks like. The vision haunts him …

Dahlia travels to other earthly dimensions frequently and she has died a lot. She has known for years that she would die after she turned 25 years old, so now she has less than 1 year left. She used to work for the local ASPCA, but quit after rescuing kittens and a small bobcat caught in spider webs (YUCK!!), as she just couldn’t bring herself to give up the little bobcat. He now waited for her at home.

It was snowing heavily and she was driving on the highway behind a semi-truck, when the wreck occurred. Dahlia woke up and she was cold and the sky was dark. She quickly realized that she was no longer in the same dimension in which she had the wreck and based upon the feelings she had before every thing went black, Dahlia is pretty sure she died. Oh, that thought made her queasy and she lost everything she had in her stomach … need to think about something else and get to walking …

Dahlia walked for quite a while when she started to get toward a town. She didn’t have anything with her. No wallet, no ID, no money. Not sure what she was going to do, maybe she could find somewhere to stay and something to eat pretty soon, as who knew how long she would end up staying in this world before moving to another.

She immediately noticed that people were staring at her. Dahlia couldn’t figure out why. She was dressed similar to them, her hairstyle wasn’t out of style, etc., so what was the issue? Then 4 guys started talking to her and coming towards her. She could see others in line outside a building, so Dahlia made her way as fast as she could. Unfortunately it wasn’t fast enough and the guys started to surround her. She started to prepare herself mentally for a fight …

In his dream dimension, Crew and Mac got ready to attend the scheduled rut. Mac’s sister wanted to go, but fortunately she wasn’t approved to go, for which Crew was very grateful. On the way there, they witness 4 guys after a lone female. Where were her escorts? Why was someone so beautiful alone? So they jump in and rescue her. Then Crew notices her scent and that she is in line to attend the rut … tonight is looking up.

Oh my gosh what a great read. I absolutely love ❤️ this series. This book was complex and a little confusing because of the jumping around from world to world 🌎. It features a couple, Crew and Dahlia and their HEA. This couple was just as interesting as Trevor and Ella; and Graeme and Heather. What a unique approach to the new world or worlds. It did get a little confusing throughout the various traveling to different worlds. We get to know all the characters intimately and they become a part of our lives.

When Dahlia Woodbridge sleeps she goes to another world or dimensions. Since she doesn't know anyone in this new world, she just followed the crowd going to a rut. She was definitely caught off guard by all the people there that are all over the place not caring whether the are seen by other people having sex, and dancing provocative, while naked. But it's not to bad because she meets Crew here. Crew knew that she had to be his true mate.

Crew Alcoal is a wolf Shifter, cop, dimension walker and hunt a demon Khain that decided when Crew was thirteen to kill his true mate. At thirteen he travels to Khain house, where Khain let him leaves relatively unharmed except the faint hook in his brain so he can keep track of him. Crew first encounters Dahlia in his new world while he sleeps. She also travels to these new dimensions like Crew. There journey begins when he meet in this new world.

Crew:
Crew Arcoal leaned against the doorway to Wade’s office, watching the craziness inside with a heavy heart. Wade and every member of the KSRT, the police special response team made entirely of wolf-shifters, whose only purpose was to fight the demon Khain, were inside. Also present was Graeme, the dragon shifter from Scotland with special abilities none of the wolves had, and the two brothers of the team’s lieutenant, Troy and Trent, both of whom could not shift into human form and were wolves bigger than Great Danes. The police department passed them off as dogs, but barely. The nine males, all as big as football players, were yelling over the top of each other while Troy howled and Trent stared on in steely disapproval, making the room seem smaller still. Crew watched Trevor’s face. He was the lieutenant of the team, and the reason they were all gathered there. The worst had happened. His female, the only one true mate found, had been taken by Khain into the Pravus, the dimension where Khain lived, that existed alongside the real world. Trevor had no options, no way to get to the Pravus, no way to save his female. So he was going to offer himself as a trade

Reading this I knew it would be hard in places, in previous books we learnt Crew was going to see his mate die. Now this gets a bit confusing because they go into other worlds in their sleep, you have to concentrate to figure out with world they are in at each event that happens. I followed it fairly well most of the time once I realised what was happening, what I was worried about though was this death that was supposed to happen to Dahlia. Well I am not telling you how that goes you will have to read it yourself, is it worth it? oh boy ! yes it is. Poor Crew has spent most of his life jumping between these worlds as well as helping his mates in all of them, no wonder he gets a little lost and depressed. Even Dahlia is confused sometimes not knowing quite where she is or if she's awake or asleep. The two of them together was bound to be awesome, but were they going to end up in another world or the real one in the end, was Dahlia even going to be alive. This book is suspenseful, intriguing and mysterious. Yes you do need to focus on reading a bit harder sometimes but it is worth that effort. I am loving each one of these stories and how they all continue from each other, all intertwining along the way and giving insights into other members of the group as they go, each character is loveable in their own way. All are protective of each other and even more so of the females, each story is different so it doesn't get boring. They are interesting and stretch your own imagination as you read, for me it keeps me hooked and wanting more. The writer has an incredible way with words creating stories that really have me enjoying my reading, losing myself completely and wanting to just shut myself away until I have read them all. I also love the covers on these books, since I follow most of the models on them it is nice to have a face to put to the male characters, picturing them in these roles. You do need to read in order because the overall story wouldn't make sense otherwise. I also love the magical aspect it isn't all shifting and mating, there is far more going on and things that happen in one book may tie in to something in another further on in the series, so you may think why is that there? while reading at that time but then in another book it becomes clear. Straight into book 4 and I have book 5 waiting.

>Book review – Shifter’s Echo

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 3rd in the One True Mate series and ends in an HEA for Crew and Dahlia. Crew’s backstory sets up this entire book. Crew messed with a demon and condemned his future mate to death. In order to protect his future mate, Crew becomes a loner and tries not to meet anyone. Crew and Dahlia both have this unique ability to travel to a parallel world each night in their dreams. Now the story gets confusing. The same or similar characters are in the other worlds, but they all have different personalities. I felt a difficulty in keeping track of who was friendly with Crew in which world.

>A woman prophesizes about Crew and Dahlia, causing them to meet in their dreams. The prophesy alerts everyone to the fact that even though you may die in one world, you may still live in another. The love between Crew and Dahlia really brought Crew back to life, but the different world jumping took away from the story a bit. If a reader has to work too hard, the story becomes more of a chore to read.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars.

Just amazing......I hope you enjoy this book.... I hope the author doesn't mind me using a highlight for her book....💖💜💖

He faced her and adjusted himself. “You’re lucky I love you. I wouldn’t wear this for anyone else.” Dahlia’s chest felt light and her mouth grew dry. “You… love me?” He frowned. “I haven’t said that before?” She shook her head, her heart soaring. “I do. I think I have since I first saw you at the rut. Maybe when I saw you outside it.” Dahlia raised her hand to her throat. “You didn’t know me then. It was lust.” He shook his head slowly. “It wasn’t. I could feel your spirit. It wouldn’t have mattered if you had a squeaky voice or talked too loud, or liked to pick your nose and wipe it on the furniture.” Dahlia tried to make a face at that, but she couldn’t twist her smile into anything else. He brushed her hair back from her face and gazed into her eyes. “You might have been a disgusting nose picker, but you would have been my disgusting nose picker.” Dahlia laughed. “Crew!” She caught his hand and held it to her heart. “I love you, too.” His eyes bored into her. “I know. I actually thought we’d already done this. Sorry.”

The couple: Crew and Dahlia

Romance trope: shifter
Series: One True Mate
Length: 289 pages

Plot: Crew has the ability to go into other worlds, so it's no surprise that his mate does as well. But they can't quite seem to meet in a place where they can both survive and stay together. There will be a reckoning at some point, and the hope is that when the quests are complete, Crew and Dahlia are left together as true mates.

Commentary: I was a little confused at the beginning because I could not figure out what was going on with Dahlia going in between worlds. I had trouble knowing which world was her actual real (like born in) world. It was clearer with Crew though. I'm not sure about the significance of the world with the commoner-turned-king - I'm hoping that becomes more obvious because I think it must have some significance besides a random gathering place for all of these dimensional travelers.

Previous book in the series: Dragon's Heat
Next book in the series: Shifter's Innocent

Intense, complicated & rewarding

Crew is one of the most powerful of the wolf shifters. Maybe of any of the shifters. His mental abilities to telepathically communicate and travel to other dimensions is only one part of his power. But he's tormented by the vision that he will find his one true mate only to have her murdered in front of him. Filled with visions, time travel and interdimentional awareness, this story is intense, convoluted and revelational. Dahlia, one of the true mates, half human, half angel, has her own remarkable powers. Also a time and alternate world traveler, she and Crew make a formidable pair. This third book of the series starts interweaving actions of other true mates into the tapestry that is this world's mythology and legend. Dragons, Bears, Wolves, Angels and Demons, Oh, my. Fascinating, romantic and beguiling, don't miss this power couple.

Captivating book that draws you in from page one to the last page. From book one till the last book

I have read the first three books in this series an can't wait to read the complete series. I also appreciate the fact that I don't have to wait till the next book is written abd published to be able to read unlike some books that take weeks or months or years to be able to read which by then you're no longer interested in the series. Keep up the good work this a beautiful well written series.I love the fact that all the books keep me guessing and deeply involved.I love books that I get so involved in that at 3am when I should be a sleep I'm still up reading. Also I don't have to wait for the next book to be printed or written. These books can each be read individually and out of order. I enjoy your books so much that I'll be reading anything that is written. Action, romance, suspense, sex and handsom built men plus paranormal makes for good reading any day

Excellent

This book has it all; time traveling, good vs bad plot in many worlds, several non-descriptive sex scenes, characters from the previous books & some romance.

Crew is a special shiften in that he goes traveling to different dimensions when he goes to sleep. But, the 1 thing that he wants the most is also the 1 thing that he will lose according to 1 prophecy.

Dahlia is a secret writer who also has the same ability that Crew does when he goes to sleep; but they haven’t met yet. She has other paranormal talents too.

Crew & Dahlia find & lose each other in 1 of the dimensions when they both fall asleep & then they have to try & find each other again before they can go home together. But, you’ll have to read this book to find out how they do that.

This book was excellent & I will continue to read this series.

Again, loved it

The first few chapters were a little hard to follow, but once you get into it's a roller coaster. This one really ties together characters and worlds that were put in play in the first 2 books which I always love. It gives you those ah ha and I knew it moments. Crew wasn't really talked about much in the first 2 books so this really opens things up with him and his abilities. His mate, compared to the other 2, seems to have more of a grasp on her abilities. I love how each mate has an ability that correlates to their shiften partner. I also got a sense that the echoes kinda tell who will get a OTM, but we shall see since one of the non shifting wolves has an echo...

Can't wait for more!

Layer After Layer...

Each book unwrapped layer after layer of the bigger picture. We are still getting glimpses of the other couples' progression into knowledge as well as how each different couple adds to the group that will (hopefully) slay Khain.

I enjoyed reading about Crew, as he was standoffish and unapproachable in the previous books. It was nice to read about his emotions and fears. Dahlia was perfect for him and brought out everything good in him, similar to the other One True Mates, Ella and Heather, for their own mates. I can feel it leading up to something big and I can't wait!

Good Story with Reservations!

I've been following the One True Mate series through number 3 with Crew and Dahlia and I enjoyed it for the most part. The characters were interesting, as usual, but the dimension trips began to feel a little gimmicky to me. I may adjust as I continue with the series, but I know if it begins to feel tiresome to me, I'll lose interest. I'm just being honest. I don't mean to discourage anyone else from reading the series, as I feel that the writing is good, and holds my interest enough to keep reading. On to OTM4!

Where Can I Find My True Mate?

Out of all the three books, One True Mate 3: Shifters Echo is definitely my favorite. Why? The book is intense and otherworldly with a Demon mixed in. Unknowingly Dahlia and Crew share a premonition that both Dahlia and Crew share without knowing each other andohings premonition drives the beginning of the book. When Dahlia and Crew meet and the premonition runs askew fasten your seat belt because then the book a page turner, have to read the next, and just cannot put it down book.

Loving this series

Another great read about the shifted. In this book we learn more about Crew and meet his mate Dahlia. They interact in several different worlds besides this one as they learn more about the true mates. We get to see more of the characters from before as well as a couple of new ones. Great interaction between all these characters . Going on to the next book to see what happens to Beckett's also to find out what's going to happen with Elle sister who is still in a coma from previous book.

The series just keeps going strong

The characters really make this series. The world that Lisa Ladew has created just adds even more to the positives found here. Crew and Dahlia were great. It was very interesting to see into a few of these other worlds. It was confusing at first, but explained a lot about why Crew acts the way he does, and Dahlia too. Again we see many of the characters from the previous stories. I love that. Make sure you start with #1, as you really need to read these in order to get the full effect. Enjoy it! I know I am.
