For the past 15 years, I've been answering the question, "Why am I here?" You and I, we both have a purpose. One that is bigger than whatever it is we are doing right now.
We are here to make a difference.
When I had a health crisis 15 years ago, I thought my time to make a difference was over. Gone. Before I was even 40 years old. I was fortunate. I recovered. And now, I am living in what I call "Bonus Time." The time I thought I wouldn't have.
Up until then, I was a therapist, doing my best to help people who came into my office. But I wasn't asking the question. I was doing my job.
Now I know that you and I, we only have a certain amount of time. We can spend that time without tapping into our purpose. Or we can find out what matters -- what really matters -- and we can do that.
My hope is that my writing unlocks a bigger life for you... a Thriving Life, full of meaning, purpose, significance, and IMPACT.
Therapist and life coach Dr. Lee Baucom wants readers to have a thriving life. In THRIVE PRINCIPLES, Dr. Baucom provides 15 specific strategies that you can use to build a successful life. As he writes in the introduction, “Thriving is not based upon what happens to you. It is about how you can choose to live, in spite of what life throws your way. Thriving is about taking on life full-contact—as it is—and growing through the challenges.” (Page xiv)
Each of these 15 strategies are explained with story and detailed how-to information in separate chapters. The final page of each chapter includes a summary with detailed application for the reader. For example, the principle of Show Up begins “When you Show Up, you are engaged in life and with those around you. You are ‘in the present’ and ‘in the presence,’ giving your own ‘presence’ to the world.”... “Here’s how to Show Up more in the moment:” (Page 77) Then Dr. Baucom gives six solid practical applications for the reader’s life.
Every reader can gain insights for their daily life in these strategies. As Dr. Baucom explains in the final chapter, “In reality, thriving is simple. It is not easy. Thriving has some skills, as we have covered. And we do have to put in the effort to learn and implement the skills. But the skills are straightforward and simple. That still does not mean easy.” (Page 225)
If you want your life to thrive, I highly recommend reading THRIVE PRINCIPLES then doing the work to apply them to your daily life. It will be life-changing and worth your efforts.
Practical and approachable life advice. I enjoy his Thriveology podcast and having this book is a nice companion and keeps his advice in one, easily referenced place. A great read, and a book I'll likely keep coming back to.
