Lost in the Shadows is the first installment in a series of e-books inspired by the bestselling game Hidden City. In Kyra Wheatley's intriguing novellas, you'll discover the answers to mysteries and secrets that began within the game itself. Find this riveting series on Amazon and iBooks … and prepare to get hooked! Nicole has no idea what brought her to an ordinary door in an ordinary office. After opening it and taking just one step, she falls onto the damp cobblestone of a deserted town square at night. Men in dark cloaks suddenly begin to hunt her, but Gumshoe, an old resident of the City, comes to her defense. Nicole has yet to figure out why she is so important to the dark ruler of the City’s catacombs. She is the key to everything happening here. The key to the City itself.
Kyra Wheatley was born in New York City and spent most of her life there. Kyra graduated from a city college with a degree in English literature and began doing creative writing while she was still a student. She enjoys graphic design and indie games, especially hidden object games. But most of all, she loves riddles, puzzles, and fantasy novels.
This was a good story, but the need to introduce as many elements of the game as possible hampered the author I believe. It's too bad, because Wheatley did a pretty good job with introducing her protagonist, making me like her and setting up the overarching mystery.
Not a bad novella as a companion to the game. Don't play the game first as I didn't get the bonus in the end of the book due to that. Still it was the first story of the series and it was free. I've not read anything new that was better, and I enjoyed the hints at a deeper story to come. I would recommend this to anyone e who likes mystery mixed with some magic for a couple hours read (depending on how fast you read). Enjoy!
As for my reviews I normally only do one book at a time, but lately I have looked at some of my books and decided to try doing some book series reviews. So here is two books within a series that since they are the only two I have read and will probably not get the rest I am doing them together.
This series is based on a game that my granddaughter Sammy got me hooked on. I thought since I loved the game so much that it would be great to read the series.
Well as I said, I do love the game and play pretty regular. But for the books:
A great mystery as the story begins. This adventure in the City of Shadows is interesting and full of action. I started playing the game and saw the books advertised there. I hoped it would have some of the lore of the world of the Hidden City within it and I was not disappointed. At this point in the novellas there is not a lot of lore and most of it is just hinted at, but I can see where this series would have a lot of the back story and lore of this mystical world.
It gives some background into the game, fast moving short book I have read the entire collection and they are all well connected to the game
and I would recommend it to game players. I re-read the books because they are interesting to re-read and be able to see more of the game and its characters and how they interact
This is a quick easy read. It isn't great literature, but sometimes a reader just needs a little ramble into the mysteries. It is also creating a bit more character to the game. Yes, looking forward to Book 2.
I just started playing the game"Hidden City" which is how I discovered the book series. The book was interesting and did match the first level of the game. Not sure if I would have read it otherwise. Not my favorite genre.
Gives lots of background to the game, but is a good read as well. Sucked into a magic city, Nicole has no idea where she is it how she got there. Is there anyone she can trust?
As a sometimes player, I know the City and the characters well. That being said, not all the names match up and that is annoying. Other than that, I enjoyed it.
A fun read, especially if you play the game. An easy, quick, and surprisingly good story. It follows the game well and a great distraction from the mundane.
Definitely a what I call a "cliff hanger" type series of books. The story is based on the popular electronic game "City of Shadows." Not a bad book, but since it comes in 5 separate novellas, it becomes an expensive back story for a game.
This is a great story especially when you are playing along with the game that it follows. It brings you closer to the characters within the game, which I found to be really enjoyable. I can't wait to read the additional books that are in this series. If you're playing the "Shadow of the City, Hidden Game" than I truly recommend that you also read this series, because the combination of both will definitely make your game playing an even better experience.
The first installment naturally deepens the mystery as why and how The City came into existence. While some questions are superficially answered others are answered in such a way as to deepen the mystery surrounding The City. The first book ears the reader to wonder if this will be the end of Hidden City? I don't believe so at this point in time as the game is quite popular and this latest twist adds to the intrigue of the game.
If you play the hidden city's game on-line this book will give yes a insight of what the game represents. The characters are interesting as each has their own agendas. The novella ends with a cliffhanger that makes you want to read the next one. I found this books intriguing and will definitely read the next one. On to the next novella in this little mystery. Good job Kyra Wheatley
I read this for the research project I'm working on and it was not good at all. Fortunately, I have now finished reading it and the research piece doesn't need to consider how good it is as a piece of writing, just the fact that it exists.
For a short story I found this to be a great read. It is a little confusing at first but all gets explained as the story goes on. I play the game almost everyday and it is nice to have some of the background to the game explained by the story. Good Reading Everyone!
I've been playing the game for several months and thoroughly enjoy it. The book is very similar to the game but faster paced. Both leave you wanting more. What happened to the city? I must unlock the mystery and find out which man Nicole ends up with
