Grace Duncan grew up with a wild imagination. She told stories from an early age - many of which got her into trouble. Eventually, she learned to channel that imagination into less troublesome areas, including fanfiction, which is what has led her to writing male/male erotica.
A gypsy in her own right, Grace has lived all over the United States. She has currently set up camp in East Texas with her husband and children - both the human and furry kind.
As one of those rare creatures who loves research, Grace can get lost for hours on the internet, reading up on any number of strange and different topics. She can also be found writing fanfiction, reading fantasy, crime, suspense, romance and other erotica or even dabbling in art.
I loved the first two books in the series and wanted to like Acceptance more than I did.
We first meet Quincy in book 2. He is a jaguar shifter hiding from his powerful "alpha" father. His fated mate is Miles, a wolf shifter and doctor. Miles is bisexual, so he would have been happy with either a male or female mate, but he wasn't expecting an interspecies mate.
Miles isn't unhappy though, far from it. He falls for Quincy hard and fast, and Quincy returns those feelings, even though he's on the run and doesn't want to put Miles in danger.
I liked the tenderness between Quincy and Miles. They get to know each other and really put some effort into making their relationship work. Loner Quincy even starts to bond with the wolf pack and participates in "dog piles" with Miles and the other two couples, who are all friends.
However, I thought there was too much focus on the mystery/suspense plot: Who is after Quincy? Is his father involved? How is he being tracked? I got bored with all the action, which involved violence, healing from said violence, and hiding. There was something jumpy about the prose, and the story just didn't keep my attention.
There was also a big time jump between the end of the book and the epilogue, which was OTT sweet. I don't think every HEA needs to include kids.
If you read the other Forbes Mates books, give this one a whirl. I do not recommend reading Acceptance as a standalone.
This is by far the best book of the series. I really loved the MCs, the plot, the roles played by the MCs of the previous books, and just about everything.
I only had two issues: First issue is that there was a small bit in the middle-near end where the book got a bit boring as it was dragging a bit. Second is that the Quince nickname thing hasn't been covered properly. There is nothing about when Miles started using it, and there is no special reaction from Quincy to it, either.
4 Stars to a great book! In this third installment of the Forbes Mates Series by Grace R. Duncan we are back in the middle of shifter action that is full of romance, passion, and mystery. As we found out in book two, Dr. Miles Grant has found his true mate - a jaguar shifter named Quincy Archer who is slated to become leader of his pride. Quincy however doesn’t want anything to do with being leader of anything and has been on the run hiding from his father who is trying to bring him back to their pridelands so he can be in line to take over. This has caused the relationship of Miles and Quincy to be put on hold and their mating to be delayed which as you know does not make any shifters wolf happy. Needless to say Miles has been working himself to the bone in an attempt to keep his wolf at bay while they wait for their mate to come to them and accept them as their mate. Neither Miles nor his wolf was ready for Quincy to be wheeled into the busy emergency room with what would be life threatening injuries on any normal person and Miles had to hold his wolf back from both seeking out who harmed his mate and claiming him once and for all.
Quincy knows he is asking a lot to keep putting his mate off and he doesn’t want to do it, there is nothing more his cat would like that to curl up with his nice warm wolf and sleep the day away after a nice long run in the woods and some cat and wolf play - however, someone is out to either kill him or get him to come home and he can’t risk getting his mate involved. So even though he doesn’t want to he leaves again, leaving a perturbed Miles Behind - underestimating that anyone would actually harm Miles.
When Miles is attacked by cat shifters Quincy can no longer bury his head in the catnip he knows he has to come home and protect his mate if only to get the focus off his mate and back on himself while figuring out who is after him, is it is father or is it someone else? Who else would want Quincy to come back to the Pridelands and to step in as head of the Pride?
This story is full of lots of action and mystery that keeps the reader intrigued. I was a little frustrated that Miles and Quincy kept putting off their claiming of each other but it just added to the reasons to keep reading the book. The sex in this story once they did actually get to it - H.O.T. Of course, being the greedy book tramp that I am, I wanted more! I enjoyed catching up with the characters from the first two books in the series and seeing how they are doing, and the epilogue was to die for - loved it! Although I am sad to see this series end I cannot wait to see what Ms. Duncan brings us next and maybe we will get to see some shifters from her again in the future as she writes them wonderfully. 4 Stars ~ Maybe we'll get to see these guys again down the road! ❥❥**´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•`*Review Copy provided by Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review. I have been looking forward to Miles and Quincy's story ever since the epilogue of Patience (Forbes Mates #2) and I'm happy to report I really enjoyed this installment in the Forbes Mates series!
When we first met Quincy in Patience, he was on the run and living on aliases to prevent his father from dragging him back home to take his place as the next tepey (leader) in their Jaguar shifter line.
At the beginning of Acceptance, Quincy is found and it does not go well. However, with the help of his destined mate, wolf shifter, Miles Grant, Quincy determines to stand up to his father once and for all.
I loved the rapport between Quincy and Miles and how their relationship unfolds. I especially loved seeing Quincy's interactions with the other wolves from the series and getting to spend more time with Finley, Tanner, Jamie and Chad.
Now, while there is romance, the story itself focuses more on the mystery of who is behind the attacks on Quincy and Miles. I really liked how Acceptance took information from both of the previous stories and wove a good mystery with plenty of action and smart situations around it all. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and feel like this series has gotten better with every book.
2.5 rounded up even tho I didn’t finish. Edit: I forgot to mention. This cover is so much better than the kindle cover.
I dunno what percentage I stopped reading at because my KU subscription ended and the book got returned but I know the main conflict was concluded !
I was looking forward to this couple especially since we were getting a cat shifter but unfortunately this one didn’t really work for me.
This one was not as relationship focused, that was secondary to the plot of whatever / whoever was after Quincy. Aside from that the couples from the previous book were too present in this story and we barely got any time with the MCs actually building their relationship alone. . . . . There was a scene where the bad guys were making it seem like they were with Miles so Quincy is frantically trying to reach him and when he is unable to get a hold of him he calls his friend to ask about Miles but he’s also joking around on the phone ? HELLO YOUR MATE MIGHT BE IN DANGER BUT YOURE GIGGLING AT A JOKE???? Ok. . . . . . Mikes gets the shit beaten out of him, he’s strangled almost to death and when Quincy shows up he’s kinda angry but I didn’t feel any emotion that I’d expect a mate to be experiencing after almost losing his mate 🤷🏻♀️ . . . . Quincy is supposed to be more of a solitary person because he’s a cat shifter but he’s rough housing in his cat form with the wolves, I’d think it would’ve taken a little longer for him to get to that point 🤷🏻♀️ . . . .
Am I still gonna read the next one even tho I’ve bitched about stuff in this one? Yes cos I like low angst shifter stories. ☺️ Don’t judge me. 😒
My ratings always reflect my enjoyment of the story. ❀

While I did enjoy Acceptance, it's predecessor, Patience was more my speed. Patience focused a whole lot on mythology, which I always love. Acceptance, however, had a major political focus and I am so burned out on politics (even fictitious politics) that my enjoyment did take a hit here.
Quincy has been in hiding, for months, because the pressure to take over his father's position in the Pride was becoming too much. Quincy has never wanted that responsibility but his father does not seem to understand, and the methods being used to bring Quincy around are becoming unbearable. Finding out that he had a destined mate, in the middle of all the running, both made things more difficult and more bearable.
Miles is the Forbes Pack doctor. He's a bit lonely, but his life is fulfilling. When he was a teenager, he came out to his parents as being bisexual, but they didn't take it well, and Miles ended up leaving the pack. Thankfully, though, he didn't have to make his way with no support. His pack's Alpha made arrangements for school to be taken care of and a place to stay. After graduating medical school, Miles made his way to the east coast and to the Forbes Pack.
I looked forward to Miles' and Quincy's story ever since they encountered each other in Patience and I saw the sexual tension they both exuded. And their smexytimes were quite hot in Acceptance, so no disappointments, there. I liked that they were very give and take and that Miles was able to help so much with Quincy's predicament. In fact, Quincy had the help and backing of the Forbes Pack in resolving his conflict.
And, as many things tend to be, things are not as they first appear. Conspiracies are vast and a touch over the top and there is risk of an inter-species war if things aren't handled just right. Gotta love politics.
My other major beef with Acceptance was the epilogue. If you like your epilogues to take place many years in the future and heavily feature offspring, then you'll undoubtedly like it. Personally, though, I would have preferred seeing Miles and Quincy honeymoon in Japan.
------------------ ARC of Acceptance was generously provided by the author, in exchange for an honest review.
I've been jonesing for this third book in the 'Forbes Mates' series ever since I realized, at the end of the second installment, that in all probability the author was going to focus on Miles and Quincy. Based on the fact that Miles is a wolf, Quincy is a jaguar, and Quincy is supposed to lead his pride along with a nice female jaguar and a cub or two, I was hoping 'Acceptance' would be pretty exciting.
I liked Miles from the moment he first appeared and I was glad the author spent some time with his backstory, but I was much happier that she focused on Quincy. Why? Well, in this world very little is known about the jaguars as they do tend to isolate themselves. So it was great to spend more time with Quincy and learn about his pride, his family, the jaguars’ beliefs, and their overall lifestyles. I wasn't very far into the book when I started to have a nagging suspicion about Quincy and his issues with his father, the enforcers Quincy believes his father sent, and possibly some interference from another high-ranking member of a different species. It's not because the author was making it easy to see, either. I'm just a naturally suspicious person. *grins*
I've really been enjoying revisiting the Forbes Mates series, through the audiobooks.
So, I hope you won't mind if I gush for a moment over how much I loved Chistopher Boucher's narration of Acceptance? Boucher offers great character voices (I adored the purr in the accent Chistopher Boucher uses for Quincy!), he interjects just the right amount of emotional nuance, his pacing and timing are terrific, and he has a great flow. This was, quite simply, a fun and pleasurable listen for me.
I love this series as it focuses on destined mates and have been looking forward to hearing Miles and Quincy's story ever since the epilogue of Patience.
I loved the rapport between Quincy and Miles and how their relationship unfolds. I especially loved seeing Quincy's interactions with the other wolves from the series and getting to spend more time with Finley, Tanner, Jamie, and Chad.
Acceptance focuses on the mystery of who is behind the attacks on Quincy and Miles and I really liked how information from both of the previous stories was woven throughout, and that it has a good mystery with plenty of action. I thoroughly enjoyed this and feel like this series just keeps getting better.
This is a sweet and sexy series that's really enjoyable to immerse myself in. I like the world-building and the characters - but Chistopher Boucher definitely knocks everything up a notch.
This is book three in a series and it must be read in order for it to be truly appreciated. I think you – might- be able to understand it if you read this as a standalone but you’d lose SO MUCH!
We met Quincy as Miles’ mate in book two. Shockingly, the wolves never knew there were other shifters out there – and Quincy is a jaguar shifter. Jaguars don’t have mates and Miles feared that he’d never be able to claim and live with his reclusive jaguar mate.
Quincy is not only a reclusive jaguar shifter, but the heir to the leadership of his group. He’s estranged from his father, though, and has no desire to take over leadership. He just wants to do his own thing – art and information brokering – and be left alone. In addition, he doesn’t want a mate (first because he’s not sure he believes in fate or destined mates – and second because his father is doing everything he can to bring him into the fold and he fears any “mate” of his would be in danger.)
We meet up with Miles – an ER doctor – and Quincy after Quincy has been badly beaten by some jaguar goons Quincy believes were hired by his father. At last, Quincy can’t deny the pull and he agrees to try to be with Miles, but only after he settles things with his father.
What proceeds is a very dramatic and involved game of cat and mouse (or wolf and cat!) wherein the goons chase after Quincy, then Miles, then Chad and Jamie after they’re roped in to helping.
**
I adore this series! The characters are multi-faceted and real, but still have their “animal” qualities close at hand. Just EXACTLY what a shifter story should have.
It was so great seeing so much of Chad and Jamie after Chad had been converted to his wolf. He was so adorable! I loved seeing how he evolved his control of his senses.
The mystery in this story connects the previous book through the Alpha Prime but has it’s own evolution by including Quincy’s father. The jaguar culture is just as fascinating as learning about the wolf culture we did in book two.
If I have any complaints, it’s the romance between Quincy and Miles. It goes from zero to sixty then stalls out for chapters then ramps up to a climactic finish and it was not nearly as satisfying as the romance from the previous two books. (Which is unfair to compare, but I loved the romance in books one and two, so this was just a bit of a let down.)
In any case, I couldn’t put this story down and I loved, loved LOVED the epilogue! GAH I hope it doesn’t mean the end of the series!!!!!! ☹
I can’t recommend this series or this book any higher – it’s truly wonderful. Any fans of shifter romances should consider this a MUST READ.
Jaguar shifter Quincy Archer has been raised in a Pride that doesn't believe in destined mates. So when he met Miles Grant, Doctor for the Forbes wolf pack, Quincy pushes him away. The fates are never wrong though, and soon it becomes impossible for Quincy to fight the pull. The problem is, Quincy may have warmed to the idea of a destined mate, even if Miles is a Wolf shifter, his Pride though, not so much. When Quincy is injured by a couple of cats that make it seem like they were sent by his father, Miles and the Forbes wolves take him in while he heals. Fearing that he is painting a target on his mate's back, Quincy flees, only to have to return immediately when Miles is also injured, actually, almost killed by the same cats that attacked Quincy. His mates family, the Forbes shifters, stand behind Quincy and Miles as they scramble to find out exactly what's happening, who is out to see both of them dead.
When I read the previous story in this series, my heart broke for Miles when Quincy rebuffed him. So I was jumping for joy when he decided to stop fighting the pull. I loved the way the story played out in this book, the flow of the story was steady, things slowly revealed at the right moment perfectly timed to keep the reader engaged and intrigued. There was the added suspense in the form of these three cats that are literally hunting Quincy and Miles. While they stop at just seriously injuring Quincy, their intentions are made clear from the start, they are out to kill Miles. As these two mates uncover more secrets, expose more lies, the plot thickens and they start to doubt who they think is behind it all.
Definitely a must read series, especially for anyone that likes PNR or Shifter stories. The books must be read in order though to fully appreciate the characters and the inner workings of the pack(s).
Tams Audiobook review...
I really enjoyed reading Quincy and Miles story, the audiobook took my enjoyment to another level. I love, love, loved the cat like tone Boucher gave Quincy, absolutely perfect. And I swear there were times I could hear a purr in his tone, sexy times, if you know what I mean.
Boucher made sure each character got their own unique tone and voice and added emphasis to words where needed, poured emotion into his voice as required. Definitely a must listen! As I stated above in my eBook review, you have to read this series in order or certain characters and aspects of the storyline won't make sense.
Quincy is introduced in the second book of this series, and I’ve been (im)patiently awaiting this book since then! Discovering that his jaguar self is mated to a wolf is a shock to his system, especially since the cats don’t believe in fated mates. Miles is a wolf and a doctor, happily working in the ER of the hospital where he can intercede on behalf of any more-than-human patients who come in, but all he really wants is his mate, a cat who refuses to stay near him because of the danger proximity places Miles in.
When Quincy gets the stuffing beat out of him and is taken to Miles’ ER, he can’t help but feel that he’s creating problems for the doctor, yet he also is drawn to the comfort only the wolf can provide. Unfortunately, Miles isn’t exempted based on distance, and Quincy quickly learns that together is better. But just who is conspiring against Quincy, and to what purpose???
This was a wonderful and solid plot with spot-on pacing. The main characters are flawed and fearsome and loving and snarky, and I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions with each other as well as with the peripheral cast of characters. Speaking of the latter, they really enrich the world created by Ms. Duncan, and I found myself laughing out loud at the interactions with Dee, Dumb, and Dumber (who were so appropriately monikered!) The slow-build chemistry leading to the main event created a wonderful tension, and while the epilogue was a touch too sweetly sugared, I must admit that it really rounded out the book well. I sincerely hope there are more of this series coming, and I most definitely recommend Acceptance!
This book was interesting. Not my favorite of the series (book two still holds that spot), but I really liked the characters in this one. I would like to say this is a standalone, but I really think you do need the first two books in order to follow the storyline, as they have a lot of plot and characters you need to know before this book comes into play.
Quincy was interesting as a jaguar shifter not used to being so close to people, since jaguars are solitary creatures. And then we have Miles who is the complete opposite as a wolf shifter in a large and close-knit pack. These two were great to see together, and I really liked the storyline for this book; it was fun, action packed, drama filled, and a bit suspenseful. I really wasn’t expecting the way it all turned out in the end with who was behind it all; that was totally crazy. I really felt bad for Miles a few times, when he thought that Quincy was going to reject him, but loved that once Quincy got past the fact that they were fated mates, he was all-in and needed to be near Miles at all times.
Audio – I thought Christopher Boucher did a great job. I really loved the inflection, tone and the odd accent he used for Quincy’s jaguar character; it was fantastic to hear and totally different and unique compared to a lot of other character voices I’ve heard before. I enjoyed this audiobook a lot. I think the narrator really does a good job at capturing the correct voices for each of the characters in the handful of narrations I’ve heard from him so far.

I have really enjoyed this series...and I'm assuming after reading the epilogue, that this is the last one in the series? (Booooo, if it is, because I have just loved it!)
We met Quincy and Miles in the last book, and I was really looking forward to getting their story. They had great chemistry together in this, I just loved their sexy times together, (although I kinda think the ILY's came super early in the story) but I really loved how they were on the same page through the story, no unnecessary drama between them.
Most of the drama came from outside forces - who was trying to get rid of Quincey and his father, more about the prides vs. packs and the alpha leaders. I will admit, as much as I loved getting to see more of Jamie and Chad (OMG Chad's wolf thinking skunks are big squirrels haha) and Finley and Will in this, I do feel like the political pack drama took away from Quincy and Miles' romance (which is why I think book 2, Patience, is still my favorite in the series).
Still, I definitely recommend this series to shifter lovers. And I look forward to what this author thinks up next!
I don’t read many shifter books (only from a few select authors) this is one of those authors. Basically because she makes it feel real, that is important to me and because she makes it enjoyable. I adored Quincy and Miles and it was great to read their story. It was also great to revisit the characters from the previous books. This book had a little more mystery in it and to me that was played out very well. This had a wonderfully thought out plot with characters that I adored. There was also humor in this book and the author was able to pick the points to inject that humor that was perfect. You couldn’t help but laugh when the author talked about Dee, Dumb, and Dumber. Overall, this was a very enjoyable story and can’t wait to see what this author brings us next.
I was given this book by Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I was put off by the narrator’s voice for jaguar shifter, Quincy Archer, from the beginning. He gave Quincy a French accent that came off very campy—and somewhat creepy. Miles, on the other hand, had a nice voice, one I’d find typical of a sweet doctor who happens to be a wolf shifter.
As the blurb states, Quincy is heir to leadership of his pride, though he doesn’t want it. Most of the story centers around the uniqueness of a jaguar and wolf shifter couple and the attempts on Quincy’s and Miles’s life. Quincy doesn’t speak to his father, who wants Quincy to come back, marry a woman, and sire several cubs. They suspect his father must be involved in the problems they’ve been having, but when they eventually capture several of the men, they learn that it’s a much more complex plot than they originally thought.
While all this is going on, Miles and Quincy are growing closer in their relationship. Appearances by MCs from the two previous books in the series are frequent and the men provide the help—the muscle— needed to win the fight for their lives and come to the truth of what’s been happening. It appears to be a complex plot, and yet turned out to be quite simple. However, to be honest, I had difficulty following the action and I kept expecting something more than what eventually occurred. Added to the fact I couldn’t stand Quincy’s voice, and my pleasure rating on this is quite low. Though I enjoyed the others in the series, I wouldn’t recommend this one in audio.
On a positive note, the epilogue takes place eight years later and there are lots of pups and cubs running around with fathers and uncles chasing them. That alone pushed my rating up to 3 stars.

** I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK, BY THE AUTHOR, IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW ** Reviewed for Divine Magazine
I looked forward to this story since the minute I read the first interaction between Quincy and Miles at the end of the previous book in this series. Not only does this one get straight into the action, with Quincy still on the run and separated from Miles, but it maintains a good pace throughout. The relationship is strained with the forced separation, but somehow they still manage to keep the chemistry and hope alive.
As main characters, Miles and Quincy are just as loveable and full of chemistry as always. Their interactions are both fun and full of heat, even as they go through the long road of trouble and chaos. Though they're different species, they find a way to be together, to work together and really learn about one another, even when they're not together or when things are hard.
I really liked that we got to see all the previous characters back together again – Finlay and Tanner, Chad and Jaime – as well as a few new characters of cats and wolves alike.
However, there are a few down points to this story. Though I loved all the previous books in this series, this one had some issues. There was no definition of memories; they were just included in the main text and because the entire story is in 3rd person past tense, there were times when you couldn't tell whether it was supposed to be present time or in the past. A clear distinction of the two would have helped eliminate this issue.
There were a few really annoying bugs where sentence phrasing, spelling/grammar and the tense weren't as they should be, making it read awkwardly. On top of that, the story slipped into present tense a few times; 1 – “being how they're supposed to be” – 2 – “having a mate near can help.” Neither of which are dialogue, which could have made sense or been excused. There are also some really odd placements of italics that don't read well or place stress on the wrong words for the meaning of the sentence. It's a little odd and made me question the meaning or re-read the paragraph a few times, to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
There's also a lot of repetition in the story – Miles being bisexual, expecting a male or female mate but never a cat; Quincy being shocked when his dad is nice; the story about Chad and the skunk and acting like a pup, while a new wolf. All of these are repeated more than once throughout, almost verbatim. It got a little tiresome at points, having to keep rehashing the same conversations over and again. There was also a lot of “tilted his head” which appeared to mean something to the characters, but was never really explained. It was some sort of secret code or animal instinct, from what I read, but it was never explained and only ever really deemed that one person should obey the other while somehow knowing exactly what they were thinking.
Consistency and description were also problems. Example; at one point, we start a new chapter/scene with Quincy flopping into a seat. But we don't know where this is, when it is or where the seat is (they've just left one room and may be in another, a hotel room or anywhere). It's not until we get to the end of the scene that we find out where this is. It was confusing, trying to pinpoint where they were, where they were going or why.
I found the epilogue just as confusing. I really don't want to give spoilers, but there was no explanation of how or why the epilogue happened. Let's just say that it has something to do with biology and some specific resemblance descriptions, that are never explored or explained.
I assume this is the final book in the series, due to the Epilogue being the first in the series that takes place years later. Though I was kind of hoping that the Scribe or Riley might get a story, I imagine this might be for the best. The series has been fantastic, but this one fell short on the editing side which was a problem the other stories didn't suffer from.
~
Overall, it felt like the editing was too slack for the exceptional series this has been. Hopefully it will be cleared up before publishing, as this was an ARC, but who knows.
The story and plot was fantastic, sticking to the great quality of the previous books. But there is definitely an issue with the editing, which is what the last star was docked for. With the characters and overall family feel of this series, it could run on for a long time and I'll read every book, because the stories never fail to grasp my heart and make me root for the characters. However, it will be sad to see the end of this series, if the Epilogue is any indication. The whole thing is wrapped up so cleanly, with everyone getting their HEA, that I can't imagine there are more on the cards.
It was a great way to end the series, though.

I have been waiting to read this book since book 2 Patience had come out because who wouldn't want to get more of Quincy and Miles!
Quincy and Miles are true mates we met in the epilogue of Patience. Miles was always open to his mate being either male or female but what he didn't count on was the gods picking a cat - more specifically a jaguar shifter - for him. What makes this even more difficult is two very important factors. One, his cat doesn’t believe in fated mates because cats are solitary so how could they mate for life? Two, is the that Quincy is on the run from his father the Tepey (leader) of the pride who wants him to take over for him when he passes it on. But Quincy doesn’t want it, all he wants his to draw and sell information.
I loved Miles. Right from the start he refuses to give up on Quincy even though he doesn’t see him because he is on the run. He was just that type of character that was sweet and sexy all rolled into one. He has a big heart and because of that he falls for Quincy hard and fast! Even during the whole on-the-run-in-hiding thing he is such a strong guy that you can’t tell, for the most part, that he feels completely out of his element. He makes the best of the situation and continues to push his loner mate Quincy to bond with him.
Quincy is so shocked that he has a true mate that at first he doesn’t believe it. He’s a CAT! Jaguar’s don’t have true mates but he does feel this pull to Miles that he can’t help. It’s that pull that initially gets him hurt by the bad guys because he can’t seem to stay out of town and away from Miles. Quincy realizes pretty quickly that because of these outside forces that are working to get him he cannot possibly stay away from Miles. It’s not because he cares about him...much.
The action/mystery part of this story takes a pretty significant part of the book but no in a bad way. There is always something for them to be doing so the flow of the story is steady and continuous; there is very little slow or down time in the story. I love that we get to have Chad & Jaime and Tanner & Finley from the previous two books playing a big part of this story as well. It’s always nice to get a dose of characters that we miss after their story ends. Quincy and Miles have this way about them that shows their love and care for each other in simply the everyday acts of random touches, conversations, and kisses. Oh, the tender sweetness of these two is beautiful!
If you loved the first two books of this series, Devotion and Patience, you will want to pick this one up! If you haven’t read them yet...well, why not? Go do it now!
Where the first two books in this series concentrate mainly on the relationship of the two MC’s Acceptance concentrates more on the mystery element of the story.
We met Quincy earlier in the series. He’s a Jaguar shifter, next in line to take over from his father and there lies his main problem. Although he cares about the Jaguar’s he has no compunction to ever lead them or be responsible for them. His father is pretty set in his ways and won’t hear of Quincy shirking his duties so Quincy has been hiding whilst still trying to get on with his life.
His destined mate is Dr Miles Grant a bisexual wolf shifter who certainly wasn’t expecting a cat for a mate. Miles has his own demons from his past when his family rejected him but with the help from another pack he has worked hard to get to where he is today – he is a well-respected doctor who puts in a lot of hours for his patients. He is also quickly besotted with Quincy regardless of the difficulties they may face.
To have any chance at a happy ever after they must first deal with whoever is trying to kill them. Quincy believes it’s his father’s last ditch attempt to pull his son in line and bring him home to deal with his duties but further investigations seem to hint at something more sinister. This is where the mystery took over a bit too much from the romance and it dragged the story out a bit. There were a few romantic moments, I loved how accepting the other wolves were when faced with adding a Jaguar to their dynamics and how they almost forced Quincy to put up with their tactile behaviour, something Quincy enjoyed even if he was loathed to admit it but for me there just wasn’t enough of these moments before the story got bogged down with the mystery again.
As all the characters from the previous two book in this series appear in this story often I would recommend you read the books in order. The epilogue was a nice look into the future and will leave you with a smile on your face.
I am a big fan of this series and I was curious about Miles's character after his introduction in the second book. I didn't see the series going in this direction but man did it work!
Miles is an ER doctor and a member of the Forbes pack with his friends Finely, Tanner and Jamie. Jamie and his mate Tanner were working a missing person case and their informant ended up being not only Miles's destined mate but a cat shifter as well.
Quincy has been on the run for a few months. Running from his father who wants him to come home to take over the pack. The last thing he has time for is a mate, especially one of a different species. Quincy doesn't have the strength to fight his attraction to his mate and his father's will. Miles sneaks right under his defenses.
Quincy quickly learns that keeping Miles at arms length until he deals with the trouble he's in isn't going to work. He may have inadvertently made Miles a target. The two must work together to figure out who is behind it and to what end before they can even begin thinking about a future together.
If this is the last book in the series it was a hell of a way to end. The story blew me away, it was well thought out and rich in detail. There weren't any plot holes and the story moved along at a steady pace.
Chad and Jamie will always be my favorite couple, but Quincy and Miles were so likeable and real. There was quite a cast of characters in this story but they were all well described and easily distinguished.
This series was the first I have read of Grace Duncan, but it won't be the last.
Ms. Duncan’s (so far?) three Forbes Mates books (Devotion, Patience, Acceptance) are, like a lot of MM shifter romances part of an OBOS.
That’s a “One By One Series” in which the first book tells the story of two shifters who find love after trials and tribulations...and no, I am most definitely not being sarcastic here...and in the course of the story, various secondary characters are introduced. Sometimes it’s a bunch of brothers, sometimes it’s a band of friends. The next “one” tells the story of a first-book character whose turn it is to find love. And so on.
I mean no disrespect, because I really enjoy a well-written OBOS. My very first OBOS was Langley’s With/Without series, and with her, well-written goes without question. Ditto Ms. Duncan.
This purchase...all three at the same time...was another buying gamble that paid off.
You’ve presumably read the blurb before you got here. I don’t do spoilers. And perhaps I’m being lazy...quelle surprise!...but I’m using this review for all three books.
Each book has believable characters, believable situations, and two men I cared about. Caring about what happens to the main men is basically the highest criterion for a good MM romance. The stories were touching and beautiful.
For whatever my opinion is worth, give them a read. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Just a few thoughts:: True rating - 2.5 stars. I enjoyed the first two books and was hoping this one would follow in their footsteps. It did [in terms of being a part of that world], but it also really didn't. I really enjoyed getting to know Miles and Quincy TOGETHER, and am glad they finally got their story. I am :-)!! BUT ... and this is where it essentially fell apart for me ... I felt there was way too much emphasis on the mystery surrounding the attacks on Quincy, Miles, and the wolves or anything connected to the wolves in general. After the first scene or two (in regard to the attacks) I just lost interest and was left waiting for some downtime with the boys :-/. I felt we didn't get enough time with Miles and Quincy, which certainly would have impacted my rating had that happened; I just wanted more of THEM. It was awesome meeting Jamie, Chad, Tanner, and Finley again though :-D!!! I'll definitely pick up the next book in this series if there is one of course - and I'm really anticipating there is one [may it be more like the first two] :-)!!
This is the 3rd installment of the Forbes series by Grace. I was really looking forward to Miles story. He finds his mate but it is a jaguar shifter. At first Quincy stays away from Miles. Jaguars are usually alone and don't believe in destined mates plus he has lots of family drama going on. He realizes he cant stay away from Miles and comes back into his life. They meet again under some interesting circumstances and Miles doesn't want to let him go again. So they work together along with their friends to see who and what is coming after Quincy. There is action in some who don't it in this story and it pulled me in. I couldn't wait to see who the culprits were. these 2 guys were a great couple and their chemistry is sizzling once they finally claim each other. This is a great addition to this series and cant wait to see what grace has next. Received an ARC from Publisher for an honest review. Reviewed by Jodi for Alpha Book Club.
This series is everything you want and more. Great storylines, characters you come to love and a world created that draws you in to feel everything. Quincy and Miles are targeted by unknown forces, which has them scrambling to find out who is after them. With help from their friends, and Quincy going to his father, they figure out the bigger plan and take care of those who sought to kill them.
The story flowed so well, I felt their emotions and was right there with them through it all. Beautifully written and so well done. Just an amazing series.

I am really loving this new(ish) narrator! He does such a lovely job with the growly and the accents and the pacing. I felt like the accent for Quincy was sometimes a bit OTT – I have no idea what an Egyptian accent would be – but this did sometimes feel a bit too cartoonish – but… I still loved it for the most part. I appreciate the effort to make everyone distinct and to really feel the story.
What a story! This is one of my favorite books by Grace R. Duncan thus far. In Acceptance, Grace R. Duncan took three genres and braided them together beautifully into a compelling work of art. The romance, shifter, and crime/thriller aspects are all done so well, and combined make for a truly gripping, enjoyable story.
The romance in this book shines. Miles and Quincy's love story is at turns sweet, intense, and sexy. As characters, they are easy for me to relate to, despite my life being nothing like either of theirs. I appreciated how there's never any question of whether they should be together, because of how destined mates work in the Forbes Mates shifter universe. Throughout the book they know they belong together, and are fighting to stay together, and survive.
I love Grace's shifters. The interplay between their animal and human sides is really well done. It was also interesting to learn more about both wolf and jaguar social structures. And the belief systems of the different types of shifters, while interesting in their own right (involving ancient Roman gods for the wolves and ancient Egyptian gods for the jaguars), also are important because the characters' beliefs influence their feelings throughout the story. These details are included to a degree that I found enriching to the story, but not excessive.
The crime and thriller aspects of the story are exciting and I could feel the urgency, frustration, and fear the characters felt. That's a big part of what made the book so gripping.
Finally, I love the characters in this story. Not just the couple who are the main focus, Miles and Quincy (who are awesome and fun to read), but also the important secondary characters who already had the beginnings of their stories told in previous books: Tanner and Finley, and Chad and Jamie. There were so many times I got so angry at what the protagonists were being put through, both when we were uncertain of the identity and motivations of the "bad guys" and when we knew most of what was going on. The characters are multidimensional and feel like people that I’ve gotten to know well over the Forbes Mates series.
I highly recommend Acceptance to anyone who likes any of its subgenres, and definitely suggest reading the series in order to appreciate the character development and not miss out on plot points.
3.5 stars Third and final book in the Forbes Mates shifter series and this time it's Dr Miles the wolf shifter and Quincy the panter shifter that take centre stage as the bonded couple. However their partnership story is tied up with a rather forced story about a rouge set of both cat and wolf shifters using them to restart an interspecific war.
Chad and Jamie from the previous book take a very large part of the page time.
the wrap up is very cute but I really am fed up with all couples, even shifter ones, heading into heteronrormative perceived perfection of marriage and kids
Overall a good read. Love the characters and how characters from previous books played a major part in this book. Miles and Quincy were a good pairing with a big hurdle to cross together that resulted in Miles being hurt early in the book.
Conflict wise, I felt that it was resolved quite fast.
Dr. Miles Grant acknowledges that his destined mate could be either gender even though his bisexuality cost him his family and his pack. Luckily, he found the Forbes Pack, who happily accepts him just as he is. What he never counted on was finding his mate in Pittsburgh or for his mate to be another species entirely - a cat! Quincy Archer isn't just any jaguar shifter. He is the heir to the leadership of his pride. Destined mates are nothing but legend to the nearly extinct and generally solitary jaguars, and Quincy certainly never expected to find one for himself, much less a male...or a wolf. However, finding each other and coming to terms with their species is the least of their worries. Quincy is expected to select a proper female mate, father a cub, and take his place as heir to the pride. Except Quincy refuses, having no interest in women or leadership and knowing he isn't right for it. But his father will stop at nothing - not even attempting to kill Miles - to get his way. Quincy and Miles must overcome many obstacles to stay together as the destined mates they're meant to be.
This is quite an epic rolling tale including intrigue, drama, threats, love, violence and happiness. It took me several chapters to get into it, I’m not sure if it was the world building, narration or just me, but it didn’t flow from the outset. Once we got going though it was a hugely interesting and well told story. I really liked Miles and was rooting for him. Not so much with Quincy, though he did grow on me!
I really liked that the close relationships Miles had in his pack became important to Quincy too. The guys worked together to help avoid outright interspecies war. There were some lovely tender moments in the book, but often the characters felt a little distant from each other and the reader/listener.
Christopher Boucher has a lovely voice that is relaxing to listen to, and his characterisation was terrific, but I found his accent for Quincy and his dad to be a little confusing as I’m not sure where they were supposed to be from, but it didn’t really detract from the story, its just a personal thing!
There was violence on the page, but it was consistent with the story. The shifter worlds were described but plenty was left to the imagination. It was a nice relaxing listen.
I was given a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
