Mars Mission: Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer 3

Rate this book
‘No-one really likes their kids being dragged off to alien worlds by mega-intelligent super-computers in galactically advanced flying saucers. Especially if they’re late home for tea.’

Danny Chaucer leaves his house one morning expecting a nice normal day out with his friends Nat and Sandy, not to mention BOB the hyper-intelligent but annoyingly smug cockney computer. (If you can call a trip on a flying saucer a normal day out, that is.)

But things quickly take a turn for the worse. For a start, why is creepy Captain Frost plotting with oily bully Chad Wilson? Of course Frosty-knickers is still after the saucer - but what exactly is her plan? And is Sandy up to something as well?

Then before long DISC’s crew are racing across the solar system on a stupidly dangerous mission. What with killer radiation, poisonous air, a monster dust-storm, a slightly depressed Martian rover and an unexpectedly troublesome hologram, it soon becomes clear that being late home for tea could be the least of Danny’s problems …

Book #3 in the Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer series, this is a fun story for kids, and educational too - check out the reviews to find out the great things people are saying about it.

For more information about me, visit my website: christopher-peter.com. But for now, a few random facts…

• I’ve written six novels. The most recent, The Shell Keep, published in June 2023, and is my first novel aimed at adults.
• I've also written the Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer sci-fi series, for 8-12-year-olds. There are three books currently in this series: Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer, Moon Zoom and Mars Mission.
• My other two books are aimed at YA / teens – Falling Girl and BASIC Boy.
• I live and work in the UK, in the Oxford area.
• My main hobbies / pastimes, in no particular order are: spending time with my family, writing, reading, church stuff, films, walking and cycling.

What do I write?

Aside from the novels mentioned above, I’ve written a few short stories and flash fiction stories – and in many ways this the story form that interests me the most.

Why do I write?

I’ve always enjoyed it, but hadn’t done much about it until I turned forty. You could call it my mid-life crisis – at least it was safer than buying a motorbike and cheaper than taking up golf.

Which writers have influenced my writing / who are my favourites?

There are so many, but a very important one is Robert Westall. He was my favourite author in my early to mid-teens, and still among my favourites now. Most of his stories had a supernatural theme, and this is a key reason why I like ghost stories so much. He had a fantastically gritty, terse prose style and his characters were always utterly believable. One of his books - The Scarecrows - remains one of my very favourite novels.

Just when you thought Danny Chaucer could go no further, he is on another journey of a lifetime with Nat, Sandy, and, of course, BOB. They are on a course millions of kilometers away in outer space and at the mercy of the Brains On Board. What brings on the intensity is the continued pursuit of Captain Frost, or Frosty-Knickers, as they tend to call her. This is great for young readers because the dialogue is humorous. It kept my son amused for sure. At the same time, the space talk does not go over the readers' heads. They definitely do a lot that doesn't follow protocol; but it is definitely the adventure of a lifetime. You don't need to read the first two books in the series, but you would be glad that you did. We look forward to reading more from Danny, his friends, BOB, Captain Frost, and the answers to many of the questions they still have.
