I've always believed in love at first sight, but 'hate' seemed far more appropriate when it came to him.
Charles King, attorney at law and my new boss. Mega rich, disturbingly sexy, and without a doubt the rudest man I'd ever met.
He seemed to despise everyone, but if I was going to get time off to attend my best friend's wedding, I needed to get him to warm up to me.
Subtlety isn't my strong suit, so injecting myself into his life at any opportunity I could get sounded like a good idea.
At least until he started forcing his way into mine and taught me the real difference between hate, lust, and love.
** Work & Play is a steamy romance novella with no cheating and a happy ending. Each book in the Love at First Sight series can be read on its own. 18+ **
Even with the gag worthy age difference this could have been a 4 star read. Because even with the Insta lust, they actually got to know each other before jumping into the bed or sofa in this case! Heroine, 20 odd something was WAY more mature the 43 year old hero. She WAS in fact happy to let it go as a weekend fling. She gave him space. She didn't demand anything. He pursued HER. He demanded MORE. HE brought on the whole inappropriate work situation and started dropping hints he wanted something deep and lasting and bailed on the heroine at the first sign of struggle! What? He didn't know he would be criticised for dating a girl young enough to be his daughter? That didn't stop him from screwing her im his office! What was he planning to do when he was "hoping" to date her? Dump her at a restaurant at the first sign of criticism he faced in public? Because that's EXACTLY what he did. The only reason we put up with alpha assholes because they usually fight for their love and they protect! This one did neither! He neither fought for her, nor did he protect her! She quit because of him, yet he couldn't stop her. He knew how much she needed the job! He didn't come back to her because he lost her. He came back because his friend AND the heroine accused him of using her! He had a problem with JUST that. He didn't want to be tagged as a user! That's it! That's the only thing that got through to him. Not the heroine's fury, not her begging, not her hurt. HIS. OWN. DENTED. EGO! I rather liked the heroine. She went for what she wanted. She tried to fight for it. But when he refused, she gave him the middle finger! I might have given the book s higher rating if they at least make the hero suffer a little more. One shouldn't forgive them just after listening to their sorry excuses! They should send them home. Think over it for a week. And when hero comes begging back may be then they should forgive them! This one wasn't an alpha jerk, this one was just a jerk!

4/5 Hot fast safe read Older man younger woman Both not virgins Insta love H not a man whore, he actually came across very lonely and not a people person No OW Drama Really loved this story, the banter and the development between the charters was great Slight push near the end of the Book but it was mild and all worked out with no drama HEA
Again!!! WTF is with this author and her epilogues?!? Her stories are so great but then never feel like you get the "complete" ending.... and I know with her books you get to see the same characters pop up but still!!!!!
This ending also left open ended questions!! Was her dad ok with their relationship? Are they having boy or girl??? How's her job???? Is Charles relationship with Aruthor strained???? I need answers!!!!!
Rant over!
Over all I really enjoyed this book!!! Even if it was an insta Love the build up was great!! A must read
I liked this book, but not as much as the first book in the series. This story is about the best friend of the MC of the first book. Finley just broke up with her boyfriend Ben (also a character in the first book) after losing her job. She finds another job though a friend and becomes an assistant for one of the partners at a flaw firm.
This story was so fun that I was giggling like a school girl the entire time! We meet Finely after a breakup and her search for a new job. She has been recently hired at a Law firm and her new boss is grumpy and like a drill sergeant. He is aggressive with her and is close off and cold. Finely needs time off for her best friend’s wedding (Brooke: from Touch & Taste) and decides that the best way is to get to know her boss a little and then ask for the time off. What transpires is a great funny adventure full of steamy scenes and great dialogue. This book was different than other older boss romances. I loved the interactions between Finely and her new boss Charles. I could read them talking for hours. They are complete opposites, yet at the same time they complement each other. There were so many great line that it is hard to choose but my favorite quote was: “Commando? Didn’t take you for that kind of guy.” … “That’s funny considering I was sure you were a commando kind of girl.” I love the worlds that Mia creates and if you have read her other love at first sight book (Touch & Taste) you will find returning characters and an event that can be found in at least two if not three stories; making the stories all part of the same world, time and place. It is a wonderful treat for a reader to recognize other characters; it makes us feel special and included into the story. I received an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review. This is another great story and any reader will not be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this story, more so than Brooke and Joshua’s which I also enjoyed. I would recommend reading these in order as the characters do cross over. Finley is Brooke’s roommate and friend from book one and she was going out with Ben. Finley and Ben have broken up and Finley has to find a new job after the company she works with goes broke. She lands a job through her friend Ava, working at Ava’s fathers and his partner Charle’s law firm. She gets a job working as an assistant for Charles a man 20 years older than she is and she soon realises she has feelings for him but he’s not an easy man to get along with. Brooke and Joshua are getting married and Finley is her maid of honour and Charles invites himself as her plus one. Will they find their happily ever after? You’ll have to get your copy to find out.
I liked this book a lot. The tension in the build up, the spicy scenes, I even liked the dark spot. They lost a star for me because Finley basically took him back immediately with barely an apology. Boooo! Thats always a sticking point for me.
Also of note is that the story is only told from Finley’s POV. I was disappointed at first but got used to it pretty quickly.
So Finley is getting her own dose of reality with a older man. Charles was so mean and grumpy. He gave her such stuff that at times I wanted to slap him. Finley gave her friend such stuff because of the professor. This was fate I think.
A fabulous older man younger woman romance. We met Brooke in the first book, this is her best friend Finley’s story and it’s well written with plenty of romance and steam with romance along with great characters and a lovely storyline
Young Finley suddenly finds herself single and unemployed. She’s having no luck finding a job that pays enough to cover the bills, especially now that she doesn’t have her ex chipping in for rent. Finley swallows her pride and asks her sister’s friend Ava to put a good word in with Ava’s father. He is a partner at a prestigious law firm and is looking to hire an assistant. Finley is way overqualified, but she is desperate for a paycheque and very grateful when Ava comes through with an interview.
Finley finds herself breathing easier once she realizes the interview is mostly a formality. Ava’s dad is kind, encouraging and more than happy to give her a chance. She’s happy that she’ll be working under such a caring, fatherly figure. Until she finds out that she’s actually being hired as his partner’s assistant.
Charles King goes through assistants like he goes through underwear. He’s rude, demanding and bottom line, he’s just a huge jerk. He also happens to be the most gorgeous man Finley has ever laid eyes on outside of a Calvin Klein billboard. He’s much older than her, but he’s not only stunningly handsome, but he also has the body of a much younger man. Briefly, she starts to believe in love at first sight. And then he talks…
Charles is grudgingly doing his partner a favour by giving Finley a chance at this job. He’s not going to take it easy on her because she’s a family friend and he tells her to her face that he doubts she’ll even last 3 days. Well Mr. King, challenge accepted. Finley is stubborn, desperate and determined to prove him wrong. She also needs a favor from her new boss, but is terrified to ask for it. Her bestie is getting married and she needs 2 days off from work to perform her bridesmaid duties. Finley starts trying to get to know Charles better by inviting herself to eat lunch in his office, while he wonders what on earth she is up to and why she would want to spend time with a miserable old man like him.
She finally gets up the courage to ask her boss for the time off and she is shocked when he not only agrees to the time off, but invites himself along as her plus one. The long drive to the out of town wedding and the shortage of accommodations provide plenty of opportunities for Finley and Charles to get to know each other in a much more personal way. And together they are hot! All the sniping back and forth and the teasing in the office over the past few weeks had evolved into their version of foreplay and the wedding weekend brought it all to a climax! Is this just a weekend fling or could it be something more? What will Charles’ partner say when he finds out that he’s sleeping with Finley? Can they make it work? Is love at first sight possible?
Sexy, smart novella. Fun, biting dialogue. Super steamy love scenes.
Love/hate/lust relationship between an older boss and his younger assistant.
Finley is looking for a life change, but her new boss is giving her multiple things to think about. She's pushy and he pushes back, but he's still her boss and much older than she. Madison writes smoking-hot men and builds secondary characters into protagonists across a series, well.
I really enjoyed this book! I have only read a handful of Mia’s books so far but I have noticed that I always find the next one even better than the one before. I liked both hero and heroine. I liked the bond between them, even though Charles was rude, arrogant and determined to see Finlay fail, I liked that Finlay was determined to bond with him and to prove to him that she wasn’t a quitter. The storyline is easy to follow and I devoured this book within half an hour. I am seriously hoping that Charlie gets a book; I want to know more about her and the hint of a secret she was trying to tell Finlay. I was angry with Charles for the way he treated Finlay when she confessed her feelings, I personally wouldn’t have forgiven him so quickly. Some of the scenes in this book were seriously hot! If you like office romance and hate at first sight relationships then this book is for you, throw in some seriously hot scenes then you will love this short story.
Having split up with her boyfriend and having lost her job within weeks of each other, Finlay needs to find a job fast. After phoning her sister’s friend Ava and getting an interview with Ava’s father at his company, Finley is shocked to find out she will be working with a guy that seems to hate her. Although after meeting him, and hearing his rudeness she quickly realises that their ‘’ hate at first sight’’ is mutual and soon realises that she will keep this job no matter what. Charles King is arrogant and rude, but Finley soon see’s a slight softer side to him when she continues to invite herself to each lunch with him. When Finley asks for time off to attend her best friends wedding, the last thing she expects is for him to say yes and to invite himself along as her date. When Finley and Charles spend more time together and share a room at a hotel it isn’t long before they give into their attraction and get hot and steamy together. But when Finley realises that she has fallen for her boss, how will he react when she tells him?
Work & Play is about Finley & Charles. Though this can be read as a standalone, it is book two in the Love At First Sight series. We met Finley in book one, Touch & Taste - she is Brooke's best friend. We open on Finley breaking up with Ben and kicking him out of her apartment. They were constantly fighting and his talking down about Brooke's wedding was the final straw.
The company Finley was working for went bankrupt and now she needs to find a job even more desperately before she can't pay her rent. She calls a friend who gives her an in at her father's company. When she meets the friend's father, it's more of a formality than an interview, but she finds out that she won't be his assistant. She'll be Charles's assistant. Charles is the devil in Finley's eye - he overworks his assistants and has a high turnover rate. But she can't deny her immediate attraction to him regardless.
You'll have to get a copy to find out what happens with Finley and Charles. But I will say that I absolutely loved this story! It had everything: sweet romance, super hot sex scenes, funny moments, sad moments, angry moments...it was great! I look forward to more books in this series - I'm guessing we'll be reading about Charlie, Finley's sister, next...wink, wink. Bring it on, Mia!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book it was a sexy steamy read loved this book You have one argent man full of him self and he is mean and above all that he is my boss I need a job and my best friends father was hire ring so I got he job and his son is a big pain in the but and I need to get off for two days for my best friends wedding and so I thought find out what he does on his days off and then he gets in my business and comes with me and we have sex and more and more and I fall in love with him and then he turns into Mr hide and treats me worse so I quit. Awesome book loved all of it Michelle
Good boss/employee romance story. It was a fast and easy read, and I thought the sex scenes were good, and I liked the story in general. Not a huge fan of using similar names in the same story (Charlie was the sister, Charles was the boss). But it was a good story overall. Insta-lust and becoming insta-love, but I admired Finley for not being a total doormat.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Another great book by Mia Madison! Work and Play is the second book in the Love at First Sight series. It's a story of the love/hate relationship between an older boss and his younger employee with a fast-paced plot-line, a rich, disturbingly sexy, and rude boss, some humor, sizzling attraction/lust, steamy scenes, which all leads to love and a happily ever after.
I volunteered to review an advanced readers copy of this book.
Brilliantly hot and sexy book. Finley and Charles are at completely polar ends of the social spectrum when it comes to being polite, and even friendly. He is a super grouch with a business approach to everything. Finley is funny, witty, loveable and bit naughty. The angst and sexual tension is delicious! The saucy heat is devine. The ensuing conflict and romance, so beautifully written. I just couldn’t put this book down.
I want to start off with saying I loved this book! Starts out with Finley who breaks up with her boyfriend after she lost her job, during her job search she finds a listing for her friends dad's company. She gets the job as an assistant to Charles who is difficult to work for. As the story goes on you follow their journey towards love. *I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book *
This is a really great book. Really interesting and hard to put down to do anything. Really good author. The two have between then fun, excitement, fireworks and a bumpy road. I highly recommend it. I voluntarily received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
After her break up, Finley finally finds a job. But her new boss Charles is a grumpy guy. Finley needs to attend her best friend's wedding & needs time off, so she decides to try & get into Charles' s good books. This book is both funny & steamy. A good read.
Short story about live at first sight. Takes a round about approach to the end result, but it makes the book really entertaining. I enjoyed this quick read.
