With the Incredible Hulk firmly enscounced in the limelight thanks to Marvel's forthcoming movie program (and the success of 2003's Hulk movie), Marvel Platinum: the Definitive Hulk collects the best of Hulk's comic book triumphs throughout the last 45 years. Featuring some of the Green Goliath's most pivotal moments and including art and stories by the cream of Marvel's talent, this is an unmissable slice of Hulk history.

Marvel Platinum "The Definitive Incredible Hulk" is a full colour 300 odd page high quality (if a tad too "glossy") collection of Hulk's greatest hits and as is the way with most greatest hits your fave tracks may not necessarily be here and whether some tracks should actually be on this compilation can be debatable. A list of the full contents is below but for quick review I'll just say that you can pick this up now for around a third of it's original RRP (£15) so whether you love all the included "hits" the graphic novel is a worthwhile addition to anyone's collection.

Few points before the contents.. It could be confusing for newbies to the Hulk's Adventures with this volume as although each inclusion is a worthwhile addition there is some lack of consistency between the way the Hulk acts in each comic because they're taking comics from the whole breadth of the Hulk's history from the origin where Banner would transform at night through to comic where Hulk shows more simple rational thought and even all the way through to being able to control the transformation itself. Some of this issue is relieved however as there is a lengthy Hulk bio in the final pages of the book with goes into detail of Hulk's 40 year history.
I also have some mixed feelings having Future Imperfect in here as although it's easily the best comics within the compilation the entirety of the two part story can be found the highly recommended graphic novel (and essential Hulk reading) "Hulk: The End". I can't mark them down for them including a truly great title such as this but that it's a shame as I'm gonna assume many will use this Marvel Platinum title as a jump off into the world of the Hulk thus are gonna end up having this story twice.

Anyway, the full contents;

The Incredible Hulk Vol 1 #1 - The 1962 Origin comic
Fantastic Four #25 and #26 - Hulk vs The Fantastic Four and The Avengers
The Incredible Hulk Vol 2 #124 - The Rhino breaks up Bruce & Betty's wedding up
Marvel Feature Presents # 1 - The Defenders; Dr. Strange, Sub-Mariner and Hulk team up
The Incredible Hulk Vol 2 #319 - Betty and Bruce finally tie the not
The Incredible Hulk Vol 2 #340 - The Hulk Vs Wolverine
Hulk Future Impefect #1 and #2 - Peter David's superb Hulk defining adventure in the far future
The Incredible Hulk Vol 3 #25 - Hulk Vs The Abomination

Personal choice for me.. #340 is strange inclusion as it's a tad average (and more of a Logan story) and I felt they should of included the death of Betty Ross.

Marvel Platinum: The Definitive Hulk

I really enjoyed this up until the Maestro arc. After that, I think I recall there is just one more story, and that was also good, but I wasn’t into the whole punky, dystopian vibe there. I didn’t hate it, that being said, it just really stunted my flow.
