What went through the mind and heart of our Blessed Mother as she stood faithfully by her Son in His last agony? As a loving mother, she would have pondered every moment of His precious life and every experience she had with Him. She would have pondered His conception, His birth, His presentation in the temple, His public ministry, His passion and death and so much more.
Through this daily devotional you are invited to prayerfully ponder the mind and heart of our Blessed Mother as she endured the great suffering inflicted upon her own dear Son. Mother Mary faced the Cross of her Son with perfect faith, love and devotion. Her fidelity to her Son throughout His life was unwavering. As she stood before the Cross during those long three hours, that fidelity never ceased.
The Scriptures do not reveal much about the interior ponderings of our Blessed Mother during those three hours, but the Scriptures do reveal to us many encounters between this Mother and Son. Since the Cross was the culmination of the life of both Mother and Son, it’s beautiful to bring to this moment of the Cross all the many experiences that these two shared throughout their earthly lives. It’s inspiring to unite all that they did and said to this moment, since all was a preparation for this moment.
This book is helpful any time of year, especially if you find yourself facing a difficult cross in your own life. It is also perfect for Lent in that it offers 40 reflections as well as prayers that can be used throughout Lent and for Holy Week.
These readings for each day were all excellently written. I felt I was right there, listening to many near the cross speaking and what they must have been feeling. I will certainly keep this book and consider it one of my main helps through Lent.
"40 Days at the Foot of the Cross" provides a daily Lenten devotion on Christ's life through thel loving eyes of His Blessed Mother focusing primarily at the Passion, with reflections from His Birth through His Crucifixion. Each day provides a meditation, reflection on how to model our lives in Christian formation, and ending with appropriate prayers to Mary and Jesus. I read as an ebook from My Catholic Life as part of a daily Lenten message.
Covering forty days plus the Tridiuum, book contains meditations, scripture readings and prayers for reflection on the Passion as seen from the perspective of the Blessed Mother. A good reminder of both maternal love and the depth of surrender for the common good and God’s will.
This was an excellent way to make my way through lent through the eyes of Mary. It is set up with daily readings, prayers and explanations of the readings. I found it easy to read and understand.
I have been reading this book for the last two years and highly recommend it. It helped me understand and be close to our mother Mary and her suffering and reflection during the lent.
