Ella Sweeting, aromatherapist and secret witch-in-training, is looking forward to her date with Rory, the cute mailman who took a bullet saving her life. But when he stumbles over the body of a famous rock star in the middle of their date, it looks like romance isn't going to be the only thing on the menu.
Join Ella and her nutty witch aunts, their smartypants talking cats, and fashionable and fearsome Detective Garza on a romping cozy that will keep you laughing with every twist and turn.
Some girls can’t catch a break. Ella Sweeting was finally getting a date with Rory, her mailman and sleuthing partner in crime. On said date a murder occurs and the wife asks Ella to help with the investigation.
The list of suspects grows very quickly as the victim was not well likes. Every time Ella and Rory try to discuss things, it ends up in a fight.
Will Ella and Rory get beyond this chip on his shoulder? Will Ella get her mom off her back? Will the aunts be able to pass on their “insights” to their niece?
Another good installment to this series. Must read!
The reason the person murdered their initial victim was never explained so the mystery is left hanging without any resolution. (And the person's given reason for murdering their second victim has no basis in the text. If anything, it's the opposite.)
I'm a big fan of Lizabeth Reade's cozy's and love her new witch series. A fledgling witch, new love, a thorny murder and flawless writing.. Sometimes these witch stories get a little ridiculous but this one almost had me staring at an apple trying to change the color. A thumbs up for winning me over to the other side.
A good solid witchy cozy. Not extraordinary but a solid read. Who killed the aging rock star and why? Although the who is answered, the why is still left in the air. The characters are growing into their parts and the storyline is good until the end. Found it very frustrating not to know the "why". Therefore that is why I have left a 3* rating.
#2 in the series takes place right after #1. Ella Sweeting is still learning her witchcraft from those feisty aunts while her mother tries to set her up with a socialite boyfriend who'll look good to the neighbors. All the while, Ella is an aromatherapist first, amateur detective second. On her first date with Rory, they hit the town and a fancy restaurant (which Ella worries is out of his price range)...and subsequently stumble on a body. Detective Garza should consider tailing her just to be first on scene. The victim is a former rock star with a wild life to go with the title...and Ella's aunts know him from way back when. Everyone from the bus boy to the widow is on Ella's list when the widow hires Ella to investigate. Will she step on too many toes in the PD?
Seriously needs an editor...homophones, typos, etc.
