This award-winning board book is quickly becoming a must-have companion for children's nightly routines. Add a little sunshine to your child's bedtime! When I Wake Up is a quirky tale about a child who is grumpy at the idea of going to bed... that is, until her curiosity takes over and the magic of imagination begins. "What will I do tomorrow? I'm a little curious..." In the tradition of classics like Goodnight Moon, this delightful bedtime story is the perfect way for winding down the day and getting children ready for sleep.
This is such an educational book with creative bits and pieces for kids to use in their thinking about the following day. The illustrations are beautiful and the words are really catchy. I plan to buy the hardcopy version. My kids will absolutely love browsing it for sure.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Very cute rhyming book about a little girl who has trouble going to sleep at night until she begins thinking about all the possibilities for fun that await her when she wakes up. She can be creative by drawing and painting, enjoy physical activities like kite flying and bike riding or visit exciting spots like the zoo or playground with family or friends. There is so much to discover. She decides that she can't wait to put out the light and get a good night's sleep to be prepared for the coming day.
I read this book on my kindle, but I would highly recommend purchasing the sturdy board book for toddlers and preschoolers. This book is a good choice for a read aloud that can be shared by older and younger siblings. The plot is a good way to entice reluctant sleepers to embrace bedtime. Illustrations are bright and appealing; my only criticism is that the little girl looks older than the little girl she is portraying and sometimes appears a bit mature for the character in some scenes.
An imaginative well written illustrated book for storytelling and beginning readers about a little girl not wanting to go to bed. Through whimsical verse and the little girls imagination she finds that going to sleep maybe exactly what she needs to pursue her dreams of tomorrow. The illustrations makes a perfect picture book that will encourage one to learn the words of the verse.
Great for beginning readers, adults who may have to relearn due to ailments, stokes or head injuries.
This was a delightful book that is meant to be read as a board book for young children. The pictures are bright and will certainly delight the child listening to the story. Parents will enjoy this book as well as it will help their child understand why they need to go to bed. This is indeed a perfect bedtime story for young children.
It was very very short, that is the only downside. My 5yr old enjoyed it and told me it was a good book. If only there were time in the day to do everything on her list for tomorrow!!!!
This is a great story for toddlers. It's just the right length and the illustrations are colorful and hold the attention of busy little 2 and 3 year olds!
What a delightful book to read to kids ages 0-5 at their bedtime.
I thought the author did a grand job of making this story so fun and making no it easier for these youngest ones to want to go to sleep when they might not otherwise. I felt she did a super job in getting her point across to get them to want to accept their bedtimes. Therefore, I want to rate this as a five star book and recommend this for kids especially ages 0-5 or even a bit older who have refused to go to bed and sleep when told to do so. I received this ebook for free and in return, here is my honest review. Great work Johanna! By Sunny.
As a father with two young boys (ages 5 and 3), I (and more importantly, they) love this book at bedtime. When they are particularly restless I have found the message in this book helps them think about what they are going to do the next day, which offers positive reinforcement for bedtime. The quality of the illustrations is top notch, and I really like the sturdy construction (particularly when the 3 year old is holding it). My highest recommendation.
I like it! Some lovely illustrations to look at the story is told in rhyme. I'm currently teaching poetry and one of the things the year 3 classes seem to be struggling with is finding rhyming words/homophones. Therefore any story which exploits that well is a positive and I would recommend this book.
As for the story, it explores the idea that every day is different, and you never know what to expect (whilst also encouraging people to read before bed!)
When I Wake Up by Joanna Liu On the tablet you are forced to read landscape mode, can't enlarge text size. Children's colorful sketchy book about going to bed and it's not always fun. She thinks of things she might do the next day as they go by in her thoughts pictured above. Interesting how they make it so not always fun LOL
This was a bright picture book with clear, colourful and inviting illustrations. The poetry was inconsistent, hence the three stars, but I think both young children and their parents would enjoy it as a bedtime story.
CHILDREN'S BOOK. Cute book. I had trouble downloading it on both iPad and iPhone. The error message said my device does not support this format. I finally used my Kindle Fire to read it. It downloaded fine on that device.
A cute and simple story to help kids be excited about going to bed and look forward to the new day ahead. I was lucky enough to read this book to my toddler on my phone with the middle app during our long, long wait in the doctor's office.
My two year old enjoyed the pictures and the story very much! It's a little hard to keep him interested in books sometimes so when I manage to do so, it's a very exciting moment.
