In a word: Refreshing!
You know how kids books used to be written: smatterings of conversation, lively, always going forward, short paragraphs, cute illustrations. This is it.
I would never have known it was a sequel to something had it not been in the synopsis. And if not for the illustrations it would have passed for a contemporary book instead of something that is -gasp- thirty years old (its almost as old as me!).
The storyline is sweet and succinct; the character blase about magic and the bits that would be far-fetched and too hard to believe in otherwise.
Plot overview: a "conference" of witches come to a small town at Hallowe'en and local magicians (not sure if that is the right word, but the word witch I don't think is the right one either) foil their plot to turn all the kids into the things they dress up as. And yes, one of the withces escapes to leave the road open for a follow-up
I am glad I snatched this up instead of passing it by because it had a horrid blue plastic wrapper.
