If you're reading this, it's because you're a wrestling fan. If you're a wrestling fan, then at least once, you've dreamed of being a part of the show in the famed squared circle. Ever since the age of nine, all I ever wanted was to work for the WWE. Despite having horrible social anxiety, I went for my dream and failed. I ended up broke and broken.
While I never did end up as the next Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Hulk Hogan , or Randy Orton, I do have stories about meeting them. I'm not as well known as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin , but I did sleep on the same couch that he did. (So I was told) To be a WWE superstar you have to have “ it ”. While I didn't have " it ", I do have a ton of stories about meeting wrestlers while losing everything I had, just to go for my dream. Some wrestlers were nice and some not so much. Some got mad at me and some....were just plain weird.
Fred Esposito is the author of "Hopeless To Husband: How to Get Out of the Basement and Change Your Life!" and "I'm a Mark: Dreams and Destiny of a Wrestling Fan"
Though his books are different in subject, in each of them he tries to motivate and inspire the reader.
Fred is happily married and lives in New Jersey. He has dedicated his life to self improvement and in his work tries to cover a variety of subjects to motivate his readers to enjoy life to the fullest.
Since the age of nine, after seeing his very first professional wrestling match on television, Fred ‘The Hitman’ Esposito has wanted to be – or manage – a professional wrestler. At every opportunity, Fred would watch the sport on television or listen to it on the radio but, at only 5 feet 4 inches tall, the chances of him living his dream would be slim. With his OCD and social phobia a hindrance, his obsession with wrestling became uncontrollable. But his determination leads him in the right direction, with his childhood dream becoming reality. When Fred inadvertently signs up at a wrestling school for professional wrestlers, thrusting him into the limelight (even though his timing is a little off) and draining his bank account, the WWE, WCW, WWF, ECW and NWA are just a sampling of where his dreams take him, as Fred ends up managing a few of the most renowned names in professional wrestling history.
It has been many years since I have heard the names of some of the great legends in Fred Esposito’s tale, and his story took me down the very happy journey of memory lane, when wrestling lit up television screens each and every week. Incredibly written and detailed, I was easily able to visualize each of the names mentioned throughout the book, while feeling every bit of excitement or heartbreak from Fred’s incredible experiences. Names such as Rowdy Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, Brett Hart and Macho Man caused my heart to skip a nostalgic beat, and reading about how the impossible dream became a reality was a reward in itself. I know, first hand, how difficult it is to do the smallest things at times, while suffering from OCD and social phobias, yet after reading of Fred Esposito’s inspiring story, now hold out hope that overcoming such strong obstacles in life is, indeed, possible. I enjoyed reading I’m A Mark immensely, and recommend it as a must-read to all fans of pro-wrestling, regardless of your choice of wrestling code, showing you that anybody can achieve the impossible dream.
