Although the illustrations, in both black and white and color, are spectacular, this only feels like the middle part of a long story. According to the note in the back, Old Blue was a real longhorn steer. How Old Blue came to be so tame, and what happened to him after the railroads came is never gone into.

He's what's called a Judas steer ... for obvious reasons.

Very strange book.
