Readers of all ages will enjoy the timeless wonder of autumn leaves in this amazing new pop-up book from paper engineer Yoojin Kim--her first--teamed with award-winning author Janet Lawler and artist Lindsay Dale-Scott. This book, which can be considered a seasonal companion with Jumping Jack Press' all-time best seller and award winning, Snowflakes, includes amazing pop-ups, educational information, and delightful interactive elements that offer change and surprise on every page in this lyrical look at Autumn.
Janet Lawler is the author of many books for children and is particularly inspired by the natural world. Her inspiration for this book came after listening to a YouTube recording of ten hours’ worth of walrus sounds, after which she wanted to learn more about these interesting creatures and share that knowledge with young readers. She had great fun creating words that reflect the weird noises walruses make! Janet Lawler lives with her family in Connecticut.
As an adult, I still love pop-up books. I admire the artwork that goes into making them and the engineering also. Usually, the story is simple while the pop-up is complex.
The kids thought this was fun and gave it 5 stars while I marvel at the artwork of the piece. There was one autumn tree that stood up from the book that was so stunning. I love the frames used for some pages. It is a thing of beauty. This does have a few words per page, but it's mostly about the pop-ups.
I am in total LOVE with this book. I picked this up from the library yesterday and am going to buy it tomorrow. The colors are amazing. The pop-ups are fantastic. Its a nice simple book for all ages, including mine. All parents, teachers, and caregivers need this book at this time of the year.
The perfect blend between a fun pop up story with informational facts under the leave flaps. Would be better as a one-on-one read to appreciate all the details of the pop up engineering.
Beautiful pop-up book with interesting information about Autumn! For example, "With less daylight, chlorophyll disappears from leaves and bright colors show". I had no idea that's why the leaves change color! I thought it was because the leaves were dying or something. Another fun fact was that deer eat mushrooms even poisonous ones that are poisonous to humans! Fascinating :D The book has wonderful colors and amazing illustrations. It was fun to lift some of the leaves up to see what would be written there.
Absolutely gorgeous!! Very simple text for little ones that carve explained a bit more for older children by lifting leaves on each page. The colors are just beautiful and I highly recommend this for storytime!!!
Ein unglaublich niedliches und wundervoll gestaltetes Pop-up-Buch zum Thema Herbst und Laub. Was passiert, wenn die Blätter fallen? Wer lebt alles darunter? Falls ihr immer mal einen Pop-up-Igel wolltet, hier ist eure Chance!
