Sammi is lost and has had her entire world turned upside down. Looking to find some peace and balance as she attempts to put her life back together, she travels to her childhood home on the East Coast... Cato and Caldyr are brothers who couldn't be more different, who are searching for one special woman. Cato is lighthearted and looks on the brighter side of things. Caldyr is brooding and angry, bitter about the loss he's suffered in his life. Together, they rule the undersea world of Unducia, kingdom of the Myr. Unducia is slowly dying. The effects of man's pollution of the ocean, as well as the unrelenting attacks of the Pirogh – malevolent whale shifters – are taking a toll on the kingdom. Unducia is a kingdom without a Queen – and without her magic, the kingdom and its people are diminishing. When their two worlds collide, truths are revealed and an ancient enemy will stop at nothing to destroy Unducia and the Myr. Will Sammi finally find the meaning to her life? Will Cato and Caldyr find what is needed to save their world and their people? Or will they all be swept away on the ocean's tide?

Got from Hidden Gems Romance ARC Club, for a honest review.
I almost thought I was going to hate another female main character. But as i kept reading I found i liked Sammi. I like the story and the hot steamy moments you put in the book. Just a few spots that needed to be smoothed out more. Some spots just a little to fast with not enough detail. Loved all characters. Neil cheating on her with another guy. Sending her off to her moms sooner and becoming a myr herself. I liked it.
Thank you, for letting me read another of your stories.
This is a short story that ends so abruptly you are left scratching your head and wondering, WTF!!?? Cato and Caldyr are brothers who are Myr or Mermen. They are the rulers of an underwater world called Unducia. Their world is in danger of being breached by the elements and their mortal enemies, the Pirogh, if they don’t find the new queen that has been prophesied. Sammi is heartbroken and angry after finding her boyfriend of several years cheating on her. She leaves him to return to her mother’s home off the coast of Maine to try to heal her broken heart. At the local ice-cream store, she encounters Cato and Caldyr. While they are gorgeous men, the way they stared at her made her uncomfortable. She quickly gets her purchase and goes home, quickly forgetting the two men. Meanwhile, Cato and Caldyr are awestruck because the connection they felt after seeing Sammi has convinced them that she is their queen.
As a storm rolls in, Sammi decides that she wants to take a walk outside. She walks along the pier that has been there since her childhood, enjoying the wind and the fresh air. Needless to say, she ends up in an accident and goes into the water. She is saved by Cato and Caldyr, who takes her to their world to care for her and because she’s their queen.
The premise of the story is good, but the delivery was meh. Some of the things that annoyed me was that for a modern woman she was quite stupid. Seriously, why the heck would you go walking on a rickety pier in the middle of a storm. After meeting Cato for a short time, there is no problem with having public sex in the open, regardless of who is looking. Her power comes in right away and there is no panicking or freaking out? Really? I don’t know, I would expect some hysterics before she is convinced that she is really their queen. I feel that the author could have invest a few more pages to fine tuning the story and the characters. I mean, this is a series right? Therefore, adding a few extra pages would not detract from delivering a longer, well thought out and well-written story. Hopefully the other books in the series will be much better. If not, it may just be a waste of time and effort, even for a short story.
I was expecting a bit more when I saw the excerpt to this book. It wasn't a really bad read, I just thought it could have been written just a bit better. What I should say that the editing should have been better. There were many mistakes that could've been avoided by just double checking the story as you read. It's about a girl who is cheated on by her boyfriend for many years and he cheats with another man. She isn't sure what to do so she goes to her mom's house on the ocean. She runs into these 2 men at the ice cream store and she is immediately attracted to one and feels that she already knows him for some reason. She decides to go on a walk on the peir by her mom's house and there is a storm coming. Needless to say she sees this man again when he saves her from falling and then she starts to walk away and he disappears. When a big wave comes and knocks the peir right out from underneath her she technically dies until this man makes her into a mermaid. She wakes up in their land under water and is told all of this and she seems it just feels right. She is the queen they have been looking for. There are other books in this series so if you are interested after reading this one then read the next one as well. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
Despite what the synopsis may say about this book, it is not a complete story. It seems that this book is only 18% Mating Mermen and the rest a series of other short stories.
I liked the concept of this story, but it was so short it wasn't a fully developed story. For the bit of story there is, there were inconsistencies. For instance, Neil is Sammy's boyfriend, but inner dialogue she calls him her husband.
Kind of wish that I knew this was going to be a series of shorts before diving into this story. It's kind of one of those shorts that if you've read the synopsis of the book, you know the entire story.
this is not a book but the start and plot to a series of books. It was disappointing how it ended just as the real story started most of the book was on her cheating boyfriend than the mermen. also you only get the point of view of one of the brothers the other one is still pining over he wife that dies 200 years before. over all I though the concept behind the books was really good and could be made into a series of several books the the book itself was to sort and rushed
Sammi is heartbroken when she discovers her boyfriend cheating on her. She goes back home and moves into the house her grandparents left her. During this time she encounters Cato and Caldyr, the mermen and thus begins her journey into an underwater world. What is her place with the merpeople? Interesting premise, a few typos, but otherwise a good read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
2.5 Stars This was an okay and very short read, more of an introduction to a new series. I did expect a little more detail into the promising story-line, it seemed as if parts had been left out and a bit rushed. It does end with a Cliffhanger I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was a short introduction to the myr world. The myr are what humans call mermaids or mermen. Their underwater world is kept safe by the powerful magic of their queen. After loosing their queen it's important for her sons to find another queen to help power the magic and keep their people safe. I'm definitely on to the next book to see how things will work out.
The promised story was just the first 5% of the book. The rest are another short stories, with no relation. I don't know how Mating Mermen ends. I feel cheated. And it is worse because it seemed like such a good storry.
Always enjoy reading these amazing short stories and meeting so many different characters. They tempt you with short story and with cliffhanger to get the full story.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. This was a great paranormal romance. I loved the characters and their story. Definitely recommend.
Not for me. This is an extremely short story with lots of grammar problems and errors. This is my first Rebecca Elyon and probably my last. I read this book for Hidden Gems for my honest review.
Sammi thought she was happy until her boyfriend of a few years broke another promise to her. He is always putting his job ahead of their relationship. Unwilling to throw away their long relationship, she goes to surprise him with lunch. She catches him having sex with a co-worker, a male co-worker. Heartbroken she goes back home to her mother's house. Her mom is away on a cruise but Sammi plans to wait for her to come back. One her first day in town she runs into two gorgeous guys at the ice cream shop in town. She feels an instant pull towards one of them but a storm is coming so she has to rush home. Cato and Caldyr are royal brothers who are mermen. They need to find their mate so their people have a queen again. The queen is the one who replenishes their magic that keeps their underwater city safe. If they don't mate with a queen soon, their city will lose its protection and their enemies will destroy them. Cato and Caldyr keep visiting Topside to find their mate. Caldyr is not too happy about finding a new queen since he had been in love with the old queen but Cato is ready to find his mate. Seeing Sammi in the store made him feel that his search is over. He follows Sammi to her home and they have a conversation. Then he mysteriously disappears. The heavy waves from the storm wrecks the pier Sammi is standing on and she drowns in the water. Cato is close enough to save her by turning her into one of the myr. Now Cato has to explain everything to Sammi and convince her to go through with the mating. Sammi is confused and feeling a strange attraction to Cato. This is a good book and some great world building. I can't wait for the next book. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
Mating Mermen: An Unexpected Tail Book 1 by Rebecca Elyon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ WOW-SPECTACULAR fast paced well written creative read by a truly gifted author. I couldn't put this book down, it's a most exhilarating read. The interaction between the characters is fabulous as they spring to life with the plot and powerful scene descriptions. This book can be read as a stand alone book, but of course you will enjoy the wit and complex characters. I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed reading this intriguing and interesting book. It is one of the few books that I have read that is a good story. The story features Sammi, Cato and Caldyr. Sammi is hurt and lost her life is all wrong. She decides to go home and leave her old life behind. Cato and Caldyr are merman and brothers, they are Kings of undersea world of Unducia, kingdom of the Myr. But there is a problem they need a Queen because with the effects of man's pollution of the ocean, and the unrelenting attacks of the Pirogh (malevolent whale shifters) are creating a problem in the kingdom. They need a Queen to restore the magic, the kingdom and its people. Will Sammi give herself a chance to love again. The interactions are priceless, and so were the numerous surprises along the way. And with an ending like that, it is obvious I will do all that I can to read book 2. But wow, what a swim (LOL)!
- I received a free copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review. - I took one star off for not being told this was a serials (vs. a series). - I took one star off for editing. This books should have been properly edited before being live; it needs a serious pass. - I took one star off for being such a short story; I've read it in less than 1/2 hour and still have 5 hours to go for the bonus stories. - I would not consider this the first book in the serials; probably just the prologue. I hope the 2nd book is longer. - The author wanted to picture the heroine as a tough-don't step on my toes kinda girl but she really wasn't. She reacted properly when she found out her groom-to-be was cheating on her. - The two men are brothers and as different as brothers can be. One is all for fun, the other is born serious, which makes it funny at times. - The end of this book would have been proper as an HEA at the end of the series, not the end of a serials. Lots of questions left unanwered, lots of things that were missed that should have been addressed such as the voice-mail the daughter left for her mother; wouldn't you call her back if she wasn't there; what about her car? - The story is simplistic at best: A colony is dying and the people need a queen in order to be reinforced. There are some enemies lurking around them. - There is no plot so we don't know where the story is going.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of this book. this is a sweet romance about mermaids but way too short and even though I did enjoy it I am only giving three stars due to the length and predictability of the story but saying that it still worth a read and I would like to see the author take this further. Maybe if this story was took further then I would up my score, so at this time I need to review on what i have read. Sammi has had her world turned upside down when she catches her boyfriend cheating. So she heads home to her mother's house to spend some time rethinking her life. Cato and Caldyr are Myr brothers (Mermen) and couldn't be more different Cato is light hearted whilst Caldyr is bitter but with good reason having lost the love of his life. Together they rule the undersea world Unducia, kingdom of the Myr but the dome that protects their world is slowly dying from the effect of mankind's pollution and the lack of a queen as it's the queen's magic that protects them. They are also under the attack of the Pirough, malevolent whale shifters who see the myr as their next snack.
A short story that's meant for 18+, mature content included. The flow of the story moves smoothly from the very first page. Sammi walked in on her boyfriend cheating. In that moment it felt for her like everything crystallized. She went home, where she met her soulmate. Read and find out how it goes. I can't wait to read part two. A paranormal twist awaits you.
*I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way.*

Michelle
A disjointed, and disappointing read. More time was spent on the backstory that the actual story and it ends abrupt. Great cover though.
When it comes to bundles like this, I tend not to read the outer stuff and focus on the original story. More space and time should have been allocated to the main story.
