Married off at a tender age by her greedy uncle, Lady Kathleen Langtry suffered through several years as the wife of a wealthy, but cruel man. Now a widow, and mistress of Dovehill Hall, Kathleen is determined to be her own woman. Independent and free. She certainly doesn't want the famous solicitor, Beau Powers telling her what to do, even if he is devilishly handsome and charming.
Beau Powers is well aware that the beautiful widow resents his presence, but he is determined to guard Kathleen's interests from her money hungry relatives. Besides he enjoys spending time with the refreshing young woman. But when an attempt is made on Kathleen's life they realize there is more at stake than the estate. So in order to catch a killer, Beau and Kathleen embark on a journey to discover the secrets of Dovehill Hall . . . secrets to die for.

the book was wonderful, but there were entirely too many errors in this bok. "" Miss. " is the old abbreviation for Mississippi. An unmarried female is "Miss," no period. And there were many more. This author needs a copy editor with a good working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading THE WIDOW AND THE ROGUE. Beau is handsome and dashing, while Kathleen is beautiful and strong. The Irish history and legendary superstitions is thrilling and pirate's treasure great fun.
The storyline is a bit different for romance of the Genre which makes it all the more appealing to me. It's a story of overcoming abuse and taking control of your own life.
fairly standard but satisfying romance if you're looking for some old fashioned wooing and a really nice, considerate hero (no alpha-a-hole nonsense!).
the heroine is a widow who's finally escaping the oppressive clutches of her lecherous husband (yay widowhood!), and the dude happens to be the legal guardian of her husband's estate. he basically rescues her from all her Terrible Relatives and they hang around in Dublin. the heroine and hero are both quite nice people who deserve nice things, and they fall in love and everything's great. ALSO PIRATES. SERIOUSLY PLOT RESOLUTION HAPPENS VIA SUDDEN PIRATES. it's g8.
edit: forgot to mention, yes this is the lady who saved the heroine in the first book. YAY!
This book was funny, adventurous, & romantic. However, the widow (Kathleen) didn't really talk at all. Most of the book was listening in on her thought process. She never really tells anyone about her childhood trauma, experience, memories, & subsequent marriage. I did not find this book as good as the previous one. I didn't connect to the character whatsoever didn't feel the emotions as I was reading which is why I gave this book a 2 star rating.
The story was touching; the reader couldn’t help feeling sympathy towards the heroine who had suffered so greatly. However, the dialogue was simplistic and often artificial. I enjoyed the intrigue and suspense of the story. But I felt the character and personality of the hero to be under developed; he seemed lacking in depth and sincerity.
