This book was written and published during the critical years of protest in the late '60's. James M. Gavin, a retired Lt. General and paratrooper, was at the time with an important consulting firm. I believe the firm name was Arthur D. Little. He was a very early critic of the LBJ/McNamara war in Vietnam and was a frequent commentator on social problems facing the U.S. In this book, he addressed a wide range of them and offered solutions.
Lieutenant General James Maurice "Jumpin' Jim" Gavin
US Army veteran of World War II (during which he commanded the famous 82nd Airborne Divison) and the Korean War. Ambassador to France (1961-1962).
Recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Purple Heart, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (United Kingdom), and the Legion of Honor (France).
This book would no doubt seem dated today because of our change in values and notions of political correctness. And that's a shame because few subsequent readers will be able to appreciate what a serious and valiant effort it was.
