Dakota didn't claim to understand men. But she did know that Patrick Devane was stubborn and angry and that he refused to let anyone, including his young daughter, get close. Dakota also knew she had no choice but to accept his reluctant hospitality. And he her bold, audacious company.
No woman had ever challenged Patrick so brazenly—while no man had ever seemed so daring and dangerous to Dakota. And no little girl had ever seemed so in need of a family. Now only time would tell if their destiny lay with each other.

You may have wondered why I read Destiny's Child since I did not rate it's predecessor, Tomorrow and Always, very high. I have enjoyed previous books by Barbara Bretton and already had this title in my stash-to-read so I thought I would give it a go. I was hoping that Ms. Bretton was just having a run of bad luck when she wrote the other book. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The third title in a time travel romance trilogy, this was worse than the second.
Dakota Wylie is transported to the late 1700's by a hot-air balloon along with the two lead characters from Tomorrow and Always. She’s Harvard educated and is a librarian so she has 'smarts' or so I thought. The author reminds us on numerous occasions that she is overweight but it has little bearing with the plot.
Our hero from the past, Patrick Devane, is a single parent to young Abigail. He is handsome in looks but bitter in temperament because his wife left him for another man and then died shortly thereafter. He believes Abigail is not his daughter even though she looks like him.
After our hero and heroine meet, they argue. At one point Patrick is squeezing her neck to get her to tell him why she is there. They argue some more. And again. Then we are to believe that Patrick finds her brash antics and feistiness admirable in Dakota. At the same time Dakota finds Patrick attractive; he can lift her up and throw her over his shoulder like she doesn't weigh anything! I am sorry, I expected a whole lot more from Ms. Bretton. If I didn't know that she has written better romances I would have never bought another book by her.
I liked the last two of this time travel series better than the first, so again if you like the first one (which is free!) you will really like the next two.
Loved this trilogy of time travel. This is the third book in the series and while you could read as a stand-alone, don’t. The set is amazing! Dakota’s story is my favorite. Go back and read Emilie and Shannon’s also, you won’t be disappointed.
I loved this series about time travel back to the 1700s and the American Revolution. Several people from the 1990s travel back in time and help save the future USA.
Wonderful! I think I loved this best of the 3 in the series. I hope thete are more to come in this series. There is so much opportunity with both Abby and Dakota 's gifts.
Although the plot was predictable, I enjoyed the characters from all three books in this series. Particularly this last one. All three were an enjoyable read. I've read other time traveling books that were better, but many more that definitely were not as good as this series. I'd recommend them to anyone interested in time traveling, but I need to caution readers; all three books in the series had explicit love scenes. I skipped over most of it. So if you aren't telling sort that enjoys reading books with that content you might want to skip this series. There was nothing kinky etc , just good old fashioned love making...not the kind I think men expected from their wives during this time period so these guys were pretty lucky, in more than one way :) It has some pretty hot and heavy sex in all three books. I'm all for loving but pages and pages of it get to be boring reading after the first few times. But that's just personal preference. All in all, I did really enjoy the characters, they were funny and warm, the history was very interesting and if you want to read a book without too much suspense and lots of loving ...This is the series for you.
This was the best of the author's time travel trilogy, perhaps because I liked this heroine the best of the three! I liked the character of the child, Abigail, and the story itself had more interest for me. I still think that for time travel I'll stick to Diana Gabaldon or Lisa Bergen...unless, of course, I find another expert!
Finally a solid 3 stars. This book had a much stronger story. I think partly because some of the other characters from the other 2 books continue here. I liked Dakota but Patrick wasn't likeable. He became tolerable when more of his life story was revealed. Abby was a joy and all the ESP stuff made things more fun. As far as a time travel book, it was pretty much predictable. The whole series lacks the that something that convinces me that it time travel is real. But who wants real anyway?
This is the final and best book in the trilogy time travel series. I absolutely loved it. Dakota, a woman from present day travels back in time to the revolutionary war. There she meets very handsome Patrick who is raising his little girl alone. Dakota and his daughter become very close. When the sparks start to fly between Dakota and Patrick you will find yourself hoping they'll find a way to stay together. I absolutely recommend this book.
Dakota Wylie is a psychic librarian taken back 200 years by a hot air balloon and plunked into the middle of the American Revolution and the lives of Patrick and Abigail Devane. Abby is also psychic and knows Dakota is from the future, but Patrick thinks she a British spy.
Confusing at times and disjointed, but unique story line. Several well done love scenes.
I really liked the first book of this series, the second not so much, but the final book made it worthwhile! Great finish to the series. Perhaps that the storyline returned to the historical past made the difference.
This is another book in the Crosse Harbor Time Travel Trilogy. I like the entire series and have one more book to go. If you like time travel you'll like the entire series.
So entertaining. Lovely time travel trilogy. Historically based. At the time of the revolutionary war. Great treat. Barbara Bretton knows how to tell a story.
3.5 stars. I don't know why this one just didn't flow along as well as the first 2 for me. I enjoyed it, but it just took too long to get where it needed to go.
