When I picked up this book, I expected an action-packed adventure with both good and bad villains, as well as some romantic elements. Also, I was aware that it was the first book in a trilogy, which might not be to my liking. Anyway, I just wanted to get a feel for Snow's writing. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed what I read. Furthermore, I might follow the story of Axana and Jasmia soon.
An Assassin's Kiss is a thrilling fantasy adventure novel. It's a quick read, yet the complex plot allows me to put it on the same shelf as novels. The reader is exposed to all of the genre's best characteristics. FEDs, CIA operatives, shape-shifters, killers, dealers, and so on are among the characters we encounter. The tempo is fast-paced, and the characters' transformations from good to bad and back are astounding. That was a really gripping read.
So far, I've concentrated on the plot, which surprised me. Throughout the book, though, I can't get enough of the tone and chemistry between the major characters. There are hotness and BDSM aspects, which are plentiful at first but are moderate enough to suit most preferences (just for the warning).
Overall, it's a delightful read. Most often, I read before going to bed to help me fall asleep. It usually does. This time, the book kept me awake till late at night. Snow's work had an effect on me that I should have anticipated. Her books aren't sleeping pills in the traditional meaning of the term.
We start the book off right in the middle of a bdsm sex scene with characters we don’t know. Sure, I love sex scenes as much as the next gal but I don’t know a thing about these women! Needless to say I instantly felt disconnected from the characters. Once we get through that scene, the story opens up, letting us engage and learn about Jasmia and Ace.
This picks up so fast it'll have your head spinning. There's a lot going on and I almost got lost in the first part of the book. Once it was clear who was talking i was lost in the plot. Catshifters who would've thought! Ace and Jasmia have this insane connection. What started off as a vacation tryst turns into so much more. Through the ups and downs of trying to figure out how it if they can be together, you also have murder and assassination attempts on Jasmia's life. Ace and her crew of course attempt to protect Jasmia. The question is will Ace's profession get in the way of her budding romance with Jasmia? Can Jasmia accept all that is Ace? This book also includes some delicious BDSM scenes. I recommend this and can't wait to see what happens next!
I genuinely like the badass characters and the plot that snow has but why oh why are their partners such brats ? It’s a good book but a sourball to savour
