Carissa is a college student who had a scary experience as a child. Now 20, she's determined to get over her fears by confronting them head on. She goes to join her junior college's paranormal investigative team, but there's one catch. She has to pass the initiation first.
What starts off as a seemingly boring night turns into absolute terror. Voices, footsteps, the souls of the dead seem to be calling out to her. Now that they have her, will they ever let her go?
For a freebie from kindle (and I never set the expectation bar too high on these..) this actually started out pretty good. The writing wasn't great and there are a few mistakes a half-decent editor would have picked up, but after an initially creepy premise in the obligatory haunted house, the author resorted to cliches from every B-grade horror in history. And that ridiculous cop...???!!! And the 'twist' at the end made absolutely NO sense whatsoever.
So 2 stars, because I liked the premise, and i'd never seen a horror movie, like, EVER...this would be a wee bit scary.
My Five star review of - The Initiation: Hell House Written by Jay Michael Wright II Carissa is a young woman in college who is trying out for a position on her junior college paranormal investigative team. Carissa has a past traumatic experience in her formative years as a child. So this story begins as an innocent initiation by Carissa spending the night in an abandoned building overnight while recording all experiences in the bathroom of the second floor …Alone. The story seemed comfortable and was just warming up for me at this point. Prerequisites for horror and intense fright are evident and the writer didn’t let me down. From the beginning of the main characters time in the bathroom the frightening and eerier happenings became evident and the pace picked up fast. Insane horror and descriptions of ambience and inner dialogue from the main character caused me to regret not reading this short story during daylight hours. Goosebumps and chills on three separate occasions. The first scary part was timed perfectly near the beginning, the second moment was towards the middle and lasted until near the end and finally the third moment was at the very end. Let’s just say I have no kids and if I ever hear a child’s voice in my house bouncing a ball around saying” I want to play” I will immediately blame this author. So you want to feel fear? You want to breathe suspense? You want to get the chills then read this short story.
Loved this book! A page turner that left you wanting more. Got quickly into the story and it was like I was experiencing the things Carissa did. Can't wait for more.
A nice and creepy short story, very enjoyable. Would have liked the events in the house to go on for a bit longer, but the ending was great. Recommended.
