Rake to riches is the second in the series but can be totally be read as a standalone.
Set in regency England, Louisa’s heart is more into the perils of science and experimentation (all kinds of it) than in fulfilling her parents’ wish of marrying a man of title if not money. Unfortunately the only man that could have at one time changed her mind about marriage holds no title and little can be said about his financial situation. Apparently something happened in the past that drew an edge between the two and made them become some sort of enemies after they had been good friends since childhood. Now Louisa wants nothing to do with the man but fate puts him again in her life and neither one of them have a choice but to learn to trust one another as they once did.

I adored the voice of this author, it just held my interest from page one. The dialogue was funny and engaging. The way she gave life to the characters was different from what I have read in the past. Each character was unique in their own way and not one of them tried to hide that uniqueness. For instance, George could have very well been the typical rake that sought pleasure because other things were denied from him but instead he simply rolled with the punches. Yes, he resented many things but he looked for solutions and not culprits. Another favorite of mine here was that Louisa was more concerned with being catalogued as a renowned scientist than a refined lady of the ton. She had her silly moments but she was at least trying to better herself. The romance was sweet yet passionate. The way George managed to keep Louisa to task with science was both endearing and entertaining. To me that said how much he knew her and that he truly care about her.
The rake to riches arc was interesting as well. If anything I would have loved to see what would have happened if George’s social circumstances had not changed at all or perhaps not so drastically. Either way the story ended in a satisfactory way and of course I will continue reading the series and anything else written by this author.

*** I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***

Read this if you like a regency romance with a strong heroine and a poor, rakish hero.
Avoid this if you don’t like virgin heroines or a strong scientific analogy. The couple really pushed the chemistry analogy towards the end.
Spice level 🌶🌶🌶 Open door (at least one scene)
Standalone or part of a series? Part of a series but can be read alone.

George is a London Lord without a title. His charming smile hides a past riddled with cruelty and a life steeped in debt. Desperation has him accepting "employment", of a sort, and that is to take an ugly society duckling and turn her into a beautiful, graceful, acceptable swan. His target? His twin sister's good friend, Louisa.

Louisa isn't ugly, not physically. She's wealthy because her father's a successful tradesman. As such, she has a dowry to rival any societal debutante, maybe even more. But she has no interest in society, their rules, their gossip. Chemistry and George are really the only things that interest her. Yay! for the first. Not sure about the second. Why? Well, he stole a kiss, stole her heart with that kiss, and that was it.

Or it should have been until he came around again intent on teaching her how to be a proper lady. *snort* Good luck!

The relationship that ensues between George and Louisa is...amusing? I think that's the right word. It's amusing at best, tempestuous at worst. The way these two spark around each other, and I don't just mean from the attraction, it's a wonder their world didn't burn around them. Which might have been more beneficial than not.

George wouldn't have had to worry about being blackmailed about his history and being penniless.

Now, that was an interesting ride. Ms. Davidson did a marvelous job making sure the reason for George's "employment" wasn't lost in the romance that blossomed between him and Louisa. And while it took some time for the pieces and clues to fall into place, I was glad it was done in time with the rest of the story.

This is a terrific addition to this series. It might seem a bit slow at the beginning but it does pick up rather quickly, promise. Like Book 1, each character of this story, even the protagonists, were thoughtfully and wonderfully created. Each one brought a string of color to this story that, when woven between the others, helped makes this a beautiful story to read and experience. Well done, Ms. Davidson. I can't wait to see what you have in store for the rest of this series.

Naughtiness 4*

Utterly fantastic read, I am so very much loving this series and cannot wait to read the next in the series.

Nicola again blew me away with this book, utterly captivated me to the point where I found it very difficult to put down, although I never give spoilers I was ecstatic in all of the out comes in this book of which there are many, I wept with joy wept in sorrow laughed like a hyena and also turned the air blue at certain characters as I connected so deeply with our hero and heroine.

I will say also I defy anyone who loves regency romance to read it and not adore it as much as I do. Thank you Nicola for writing it 💖

Fantastic follow-up to book 1 of the series! This volume features an impoverished rake with a heart of gold and a filthy mouth, an heiress who appreciates explosive chemistry, murder plots, a dead man who's not, blackmail, kidnapping, and satisfying revenge.

Once again, the author's masterful storytelling keeps all the many elements from becoming overwhelming. Rather, the story is compelling and well paced and quite delightful. I finished it in a day.

Another excellent read from Ms. Davidson. I loved the characters and the witty dialogue and the ever so evil plot twists. The one slight problem with this book is that I read is so fast and now have to wait months for the next in the series. Curse you, un-put-down-able-ness!

This is the first book by Nicola Davidson that I have read but it won't be the last. Right from the start the characters were interesting and made me want to know more about them. George is the penniless stepson of a cruel heartless man - Malcolm Edwards. Because Malcolm had be threatened by George's brother-in-law for beating George's mother and twin sister, he now took all his rage and anger out on George. George's twin sister has a rich friend Louisa. While Louisa's father is rich, he made his money in trade. Now that he is rich, his wife wants their daughter to marry someone with a title. Louisa's dowry is so big, every fortune hunter with a title is after her.
Unfortunately, Louisa is only interested in two things, her chemistry experiments and her friend's brother George. He's interested in her too (in a love-hate kind of way) but not only does he not have a title he doesn't have a penny to his name.
George and Louisa are so well written you can't help but want to know what happens to them and wonder how they are going to get together. just when you think things are getting good they find themselves in danger again and again. The heroes are wonderful and the villains are deliciously wicked. This is well worth the read and I can't wait to go back and read the first book in this series.
I received an Advanced Copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I get it now. It’s like parody. You watch Scream and it’s a great scary movie. Then You watch Scary Movie and it is funny and embraces all the tropes of the genre. This is a regency parody. All the tropes and all the fun. The Couple aren’t complicated, they aren’t full of drama but the story is full of all the drama of a parody regency. I love that the mains aren’t caricatures of themselves. Frequently in these modern historical sites the mains are beyond annoying. But the story and the villains are just over the top. You name the trope and it is here… amnesia, secret duke, rich commoner, and don’t get me started on the ‘modern’ language and behavior, etc etc. and yet I had to read it and had to finish it. I feel a bit dumber now but oh well book 3 here I come

Rake To Riches by Nicola Davidson is an absolutely spellbinding read. I'm giving this book 5 stars, only because I can't give it 6. Ms Davidson has delivered an awesome story loaded with fantastic, lovable characters. Louisa and George's story is a fast paced tale full of drama, action, lots of suspense and sizzle. This story grabbed me at page one and held me hostage till the end. I loved Rake To Riches and can't wait to read more from Nicola Davidson in the future. Rake To Riches is book 2 of The London Lords Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

George and Louisa from frenemies to lovers. She's a heiress chemist, he's her best friend's twin. There was lots of potential, but this story just fell flat to me. I didn't care about the characters even though they had a bad life. I just never felt the connection between them. If I can walk away from a story for days and not worry about the characters or wanting to finish, then it's not the book for me.

Well written, smart and funny, but I’m not a fan of romances with villains and murderous plots. Probably won’t read this author again.

Ooh! This was interesting.

While Stephen and Caro got their HEA in the last book, I will admit to being curious about George as well as how things were going to go after Stephen's *ahem* conversation with Sir Malevolent. It was sad seeing what he'd done all these years, but I liked(?) that George was doing his best to protect his mother since he trusted Stephen to do so for Caro.

George was amazing. I laughed at the fact that that man was basically gone for Louisa from the beginning but was somehow so awkward about revealing things so they had their animosity for so long. The reveal when he showed up at her house as her tutor was hilarious and I'll admit to a lot of giggling as he wondered why she wasn't revealing herself. I did like how much he also cared about Louisa in general; the way he was trying to help her with the clothes (because he realized why she was doing what she was doing), how once he got past his slight shock at her language, he was willing to talk to her about pretty much anything, the book he bought without even knowing what her mother had done. Man was in love from pretty much the word go and it was glorious. I also liked at the end that he was the one who got to take care of Sir Malcolm and he stopped Louisa so that he could.

Louisa was great. I will admit some of her antics were eye-rolly, even if I sort of agreed with her reasoning. I liked how she cared for Belinda and Caro and even George to an extent, although she tried to hide it for a while. I also liked the fact that she reunited George with his father after Caro recognized him. I liked her investigation(s) and would have liked to see a few more, but she ended up doing more practical experiments for a while anyway. I liked how she got under dear old Percy's skin there at the end, even if he was a spineless little worm, but at least she was able to distract him for a minute.

The reveal on Howard was surprising, and I'll admit I was a little confused about some things. Not sure if I missed it somehow or not, but when he went missing, why bother making Emily remarry and sign what was essentially that period's version of an NDA? If they were concerned about possible succession, why not just turn her out or something? And why didn't anyone actually know about the marriage? Wouldn't Howard's turning away from his family have been enough of a scandal/gossip to cause people to take notice? That was one part that just didn't quite work for me...Emily ending up married to Sir Malcolm (his actions also but there would have been someone else if she hadn't been forced into it). I figured Kildaire was behind Sir Malcolm's little disappearing act when that letter was signed "K", but the reveal on why was a little surprising. I laughed at lot when Percy got himself dragged off, because that whiny little wimp is probably lucky he's just going to prison.

Rake to Riches is the second book in The London Lords series. Set in London, December 1814 through to February 1815. This was an amusing historical romance and I enjoyed the overall story but it did take me a couple of weeks to finish. I think the pace started quite slow although it did gain momentum at the end. The dialogue is witty but some language is harsh. The f word is used a lot. The villains are quite villainous, and the Hero and Heroine are very likeable characters. I persevered in reading because I was very curious to see how their HEA worked out.

The London Lords. A small, select circle of heirs who remained good friends since their days at Eton, the men now known as the London Lords are among the most powerful and wealthiest in England.

To Love a Hellion: 3 stars: Stephen & Carolyn
Rake to Riches: 4- stars: George & Louisa

George Edwards is a London Lord without a title. His charming smile hides a past of inflicted cruelty from his stepfather and a crippling debt run up by his mother. His desperate circumstances have him accepting a job for which he needs to disguise himself with a padded belly and dated clothes. He is employed to teach a young lady the manners and etiquette of being a marriageable lady.

Heiress Louisa Donovan is more interested in her science experiments than fulfilling her parents wish for her to marry. Louisa’s father made his money in trade so they want Louisa to marry a titled gentleman. Her best friend Carolyn has a twin brother who has Louisa’s interest however he has no title or money.

George and Louisa’s chemistry include verbal spats which are playful and flirty. Their sexy times seriously sizzle.

I recommend this book for a slightly better than average read.

DNF. I read the first book in the series even though I wasn't really enjoying it, then tried going to this one hoping that it was just the MMC in the prior book I didn't like. Turns out I just don't like it. This is weird to say for a romance novel (because I'm not generally a prude) but the writing around the sexual relationship was just too blunt and aggressive? Not in a sexy way. In a whiplash way, that gave me the ick. Plus the villains are just cartoonishly evil in a way that is both gross and annoying. (I stopped right after the POV villain in this one out of nowhere briefly thinks about how much he loves beating then raping his wife in enough disturbing detail to be horrifying, and then goes back to observing the party he's at. Not only is it too dark, it's just disrespectful to the reader.)

A good follower to the first in the series

I wish this writer would continue her series because there are several more characters she hints at but then leaves you with nothing. I liked this one 2nd best of the series. The first was by far the best, with truly funny interludes - not just the characters snickering, me too. This one had less of that though valiant effort. Sex was fine. 6.5/10 on the sex-o-meter cisgender regular stuff. You couldn't help but like this heroine and the guy wasn't a cad so it was a very enjoyable read. My strongest negative is that she didn't finish the stories of all the characters in their little crew. 4.6/5

This is very amusing, engrossing, suspenseful and romantic. I stayed up waayy past my bedtime to finish this, it was that good. George is sweet, charming and funny. Louisa is snarky and entertaining. Both have an overbearing, evil parent. The other characters are intriguing and amusing. And the end is exciting and satisfying, and fun.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion of it.

I loved The London Lords Book 2

The story of George and Louisa is full of excitement, personality and romance. They have known each other and sparred for years as Lulu is Georges sister's best friend. When sparks stArt to fly poor George gets nervous, then when he finally discovers who his real father is and finds out he's titled Louisa gets scared. It's a page Turner with a lot of laugh out loud humor and suspense. I loved this book..!!

Loved the book. George, who has been tormented and tortured since a child by his stepfather, learns his father is not dead and he is the heir to a dukedom, more like rags to riches. Before this he comes to love Eleanor, who likes to experiment which results in things blowing up. The book is a great read but there are parts where your heart breaks for all that George has suffered. I would highly recommend this series.

It’s a feat to cram so many characters & plotlines into one story & it would be an even bigger feat if it was actually interesting. Louisa & George had chemistry, I’ll give them that but at times the writing & dialogue felt too “modern”, like the author was writing for a smarmy Netflix drama set around regency.. think Persuasion (2022). Anyway, the villains were just so laughably cartoonish how could I possibly take them seriously?? I didn’t & I was just waiting for the story to get better.

What a pleasant surprise to discover Ms. Davidson’s books! She’s right up there with Julie Garwood, IMO, in terms of snappy dialogue. Her characters are three-dimensional and the plot moves quickly. I love this series so far and enjoyed Louisa and George’s story even more than Caroline and Stephen’s. And of course, the sex scenes are hot hot hot. Highly recommend this author and series!

A very good read, just a small amount of quirkiness and the fact that they didn’t want children kept it from a higher rating ( a little progressive for my traditional mindset. Ha ha I guess I am old fashion in my historical romance!) The plot 7 and steaminess 9 (1-10) Mrs. Davidson knows how to write steamy!!

Everyone thinks George Edwards is just a feckless rake, but his irrelevantness is to hide the fact that his evil stepfather is abusing the family. Heiress Louisa Donovan would rather do science than get married, but her parents are determined to find her a titled husband, and keep hiring comportment tutors to whip her into shape. The latest tutor is George in disguise. Both George are Louisa are hiding feelings for each other, but practically everything is keeping them apart.

• I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I enjoyed seeing more of the characters we met there.
• Nicola Davidson loves tropes, and I'm not mad about it. I loved all the secret pining and lost relatives and kidnapping and misunderstandings. Enjoyed seeing the villains get comeupped, and the good guys get happy.
• Loved the theme of Louisa dressing horribly on purpose and bartering wearing nice pieces of clothing to George for concessions.

This one is a Gold Award!
An interesting thought popped into my head as I began writing this review, "move over 'Dynasty' because this one is far better!"
Yes, I know the time period is hundreds of years before the TV saga even began, but
George and Louisa do a pretty good job as their amazing story unfolds and, drumroll, I loved it all!

A Rake and Chemist

This was the most entertaining book ever. Louisa and George’s arguments were so funny. The evilness of the people in this book was like a society. Once George and Louisa finally talked they realize their feelings. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Yuck

Waste of time..
Plot is okay. Nothing else. Especially not the language. They don't talk crap in modern American style.. Such mistakes irritate the hell out of me..and destroy the mood of the story setting and nothing will fit..
