The main story collected in this book sees Wade's relationships with his allies and the missus take a serious nosedive. It's pretty funny, although the exposition to action ratio is more than a little skewed in favour of the former. Three stars would be fair, I think.

Then we get another episode of Deadpool 2099, which I'm REALLY not enjoying. One star, for the occasional semi-amusing gag.

Then we get the Deadpool Annual, which was absolutely flarkin' hilarious! It features Deadpool starring in an episode of the old Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends cartoon and I laughed so hard stuff came out of my nose. Five well-deserved stars.

So, overall, that gives us... carry the one... an overall score of three stars, with the 2099 issue and the annual effectively cancelling each other out.

The Civil War II tie in was pointless. It's basically just a conversation with Ulysses. Everything falls apart for Wade in this volume, which I'm kind of happy about. The series hasn't been nearly as good as the previous one by Gerry Duggan. All the special issue BS has really hurt this series. Hopefully Deadpool can get back to his roots where he's an action version of Bugs Bunny.

[Read as single issues]
I wish Civil War II hadn't dragged so many titles into it. But then, most of those books barely tie in anyway. Take Deadpool for example, whose recap pages literally say something about having Civil War II on the cover because it promotes sales and then runs off and does its own thing anyway.

This volume is more about Deadpool's Mercs For Money realising that he's been jipping them out of money, and going off on one for revenge. I'm surprised it took this long, to be honest.

I've never been a massive fan of the Mercs For Money, and I was glad when they got their own series so that they could go off over there and let Deadpool have his own series back, but this volume drags them back into the action instead. Sigh.

The art here is by the ever-reliable Mike Hawthorne I believe, who has been pencilling Deadpool on and off across the Duggan run, so you know what you're getting here.

The Madcap plot bubbling in the background is much more interesting, as are the rare poignant moments that Deadpool gets involved in. As usual, Duggan's grasp of Wade as a character is superb. I just wish there weren't so many other nutcases stealing his spotlight.

Deadpool: Civil War II

Alright, Deadpool review time! I surprisingly don’t think I’ve ever reviewed a Deadpool comic so here we go!

What’s it about?
The Mercs For Money are fed up of Deadpool not actually paying them so they try some pretty insane things to get paid. Needless to say, things don’t work out as planned.

Why it gets 5 stars:
The story is interesting.
The characters are very entertaining.
The art is very well done.
There’s lots of great action scenes throughout! Lots of excitement, explosions, fighting and gun fights!
There’s a lot of good humor in this volume.
This comic is so crazy that you can never tell what kinda madness will happen next!
This comic can be surprisingly emotional at times.
There’s a good bonus issue at the end that does more with the Deadpool 2099 story.

Overall:
This is what most Marvel comics should look like IMO. Fun, action packed stories that aren’t too predictable and have good art. I know there’s some Deadpool haters out there but they don’t know what they’re missing! This is a great comic that I definitely recommend!

5/5

'Pool is not having the best of times; in fact, it's all going downhill, as we all knew it would. Oh, lawks.

This one had some good bangers, especially between Deadpool and the soon-to-be ex-wifey. Deadpool threatening his (now former) team gave me a taste of that nastier side of Wade I so enjoyed as a teen.

Best Civil War II tie-in? Prob'ly, but only because that entire event was about as memorable, as natural, as a wet blanket. Totally not a film tie-in for Cap America 3!

Even though I hate the Mercs for Money stuff, this Volume finally does what I'd hoped it would all lead to. Pretty predictable, but still a fun read. Probably the best Volume of the set so far. Looks like we'll have more of the fun and insane Deadpool from here on.

In this volume, the Mercs for Money finally have had enough of Deadpool & decide to branch out without him.

There is frankly little link to Civil War II in this series & the Mercs for Money have nothing to do with it. Deadpool does visit the Inhuman who caused Civil War II, Ulysses, to see if he can predict what will happen to Ellie. This is a great conversation which brilliantly balances the humour & sadness of Deadpool. He then bumps into Black Panther on the way out where they have a hilarious fight.

The Mercs for Money split isn't really a big issue here. It does affect Deadpool but it's a easily sorted out conflict. What's more interesting is hearing how Deadpool became famous before the start of the run and it turns out it was an accident that has nothing to do with Deadpool at all.

Just when he feels things couldn't get any worse, Deadpool has a big fight with his wife Shiklah. When the husband and wife are a regenerating mercenary & the demon Queen of the Underworld things really get out of hand. This is also lots of fun & sets up for an even bigger confrontation between the two soon.

The arc ends with Deadpool feeling really sorry for himself. Gerry Duggan really gets this character, understanding the craziness and the darkness that underpins it.

The volume ends with the latest part of the Deadpool 2099 story. This is still great, especially the ending here, although it has lost something now that most of it's mysteries are solved.

Another great Deadpool volume. Lots of silly stuff, some great fights & a downtrodden Deadpool. Superb!

So... this was Deadpool. Pretty basically what I expect from the Merc with the Mouth. I've read some issues where they've taken the character to some "deep" places, and those have been surprisingly good--but that's also not really what Deadpool is about, and that's also not where this volume went. This one had the Mercs for Money breaking up, which led to about as much violence as you would expect. There were a few nice emotional moments concerning Deadpool and his daughter, and those were solid enough. But most of the humor in this particular volume focused more on violence or gross-out gags, with not as much focus on fourth-wall breaking and similar such jokes. Both types of humor have a place in Deadpool, but the latter is why I enjoy the character: as ridiculous as the character is, the humor is often very clever. This particular volume didn't deliver on that, for me personally, but if you're looking for the other side of Deadpool, then this certainly fits the bill.

Gerry Dugan and a team of artists plow their way into the Civil War II event with this mishmash of plots involving the overdone assassin Deadpool. The opening issue sees Deadpool recruit his wife and her monsters to battle a cosmic threat in the background, while the Mercs for Money team rescue civilians and quit being a back-up band. The next issue drops Deadpool into a meeting with the precog Ulysses, and uses bathroom humor aplenty during a dust-up between Wade and Black Panther. The teleporting mercenary Solo recounts how he was duped into masquerading as Deadpool for a job before the entire crew dissolves itself with a massive beatdown. Finding Shiklah in bed with Werewolf by Night leads to a violent marital scufflaw, with some closure between Rogue and Deadpool closing out his terrible week. The volume concludes with yet another chapter of the Deadpool 2099 saga, featuring the surprise appearance of the Iron Fist and more daddy-daughter issues. Dugan jumps from plot to plot with nary a care, seemingly bouncing between the Mercs story to Civil War II to Shiklah to 2099 just to fill in pages. With no real adversary, other than hints at Madcap's return, the book feels like and endless one-note joke. The varying art styles do not help matters, only succeeding in bogging down an already-unreadable story. Civil War II is a cluster of a tale, and should have negotiated a surrender before hitting shelves.

I’m not a Deadpool fan. Before I read a Deadpool comic or saw the Deadpool movie, I was subjected to lots and lots of Deadpool cosplayers, and that’s a real quick way to hate a character. I went into Deadpool: Civil War II really hoping to change my mind about the man. Unfortunately, this is yet another crappy entry in the Civil War II.

First of all, a surprising amount of this book is written in Spanish. I can appreciate Duggan's commitment to the joke, I guess, but...I don't read Spanish. I missed part of the story because I don't read Spanish. That feels bad.

Second, I get that the overarching story is supposed to be a Civil War inside of the Mercs for Money, but it's not a civil war - this is just guys who have been actually screwed over (by, surprise surprise, Deadpool himself) beating up a guy who can't really be injured. There's no war, there's no moral ambiguity, there's no schism within a population. This is just a group of guys rebelling against a leader who's been stealing from them. It's just...not interesting.

To me that's what this book comes down to - it's boring. I can't read quite a bit of the dialogue, Deadpool's antics are not funny, and the story is tedious.

3.5 Stars.
Civil War II has broken out in the Marvel Universe, and that means trouble for the Mercs. Not from outside sources, but a civil war among themselves. (Hopefully it will get these characters out of this title. They are so annoying!) The "Mercs For Money" are tired of not getting paid by Wade, so they decide to track down his "Stash" and claim it for themselves. 'Pool catches them, but not soon enough to keep them from being locked in the bank vault all night. Let the irrational battle begin!
The Mercs burn their contracts with Wade and leave to strike out on their own.
'Pool heads home to be consoled by Shiklah, only to find his demon queen wife in bed with a werewolf! BLAM! Taken care of! But Shiklah is pissed and beats Wade down in a fight. What else could happen?
The Avengers Unity Squad loses their base, which was funded by Deadpool... where will they move next?
and finally.... another issue of Deadpool 2099, which contains two awesome points: 1) Deadpool's new outfit is awesome! 2) Iron Fist is super old! But the foreshadowing from this future indicates that the next step for the Unity Squad will be very bad.

Now that the Mercs are gone, hopefully this title can get back to its glory days. Recommend still, but better days are hopefully ahead.

Things start to fall apart for Wade Wilson, as his professional life and his marraige fall apart. Oh and the Civil War II thing happening? Inconsequential to this book!

Yes I know, it has the Civil War II title in it, but even Deadpool himself says, its just a money grab. The volume actually has nothing to do - ok very little to do with Civil War II. It's really about the Mercs for Money being fed up with not being paid, so they decide to do anything they can to get paid... or at least get revenge of Deadpool. So that team goes by the wayside, then Deadpool goes home to find his wife in bed with a werewolf... and that goes by the wayside as well. Also, there's the constant threat of MadCap coming back, so he has that to look forward to in the future.

The art by Mike Hawthorne is solid, and really fits the story well. Even in the more silly moments, the grounded art of Hawthorne give a tone to the book that is necessary. If not, it would be too cartoony for its own good in my opinion.

Things are not going well for Deadpool at this point, and it really brings him to a low point in his life. I'm interested to see how he digs his way out in the next volume.

This is one of the most consistent presentations of Deadpool as a character yet. In all of these issues, he's very consistent and kind of located around the Circle Chase in his arc. He's mean, he's moody, he's violent, he's interested in money, he's self-pitying.

There's very little of the wacky master planner, Bugs Bunny Deadpool.

At the same time the tone of the story around him keeps shifting pretty dramatically. There are a lot of balls in the air that seem pretty independent of Deadpool's character growth, which is always meant to be the driver of the story (no matter how many times he grows.)

Wade's adventures with the Mercs continue but head south as they realize he might not have their best interests at heart. Duggan again tells a funny story that but the best parts seem to be when Wade realizes his life isn't what he wants it to be. The chapter with an Avengers co-star is the standout. I like that their is still building the Madcap subplot that will boil over. The art by Mike Hawthorne was solid. Overall, there are some funny moments but nothing drop dead funny here but but the story progressed well enough.

Deadpool's shitty life takes center stage in this collection, as he falls out with pretty much everybody (though he does get a nice moment with Rogue). And Deadpool 2099's adventures continue as OG Deadpool's two daughters fight it out. The humor's a lot darker in this collection, in that even Wade knows just how terrible everything is, and isn't even pretending to make light of it, so much as just comment on how terrible it all is, haha.

After its rough start, this series continues with an imperfect-but-finally-enjoyable run. The continued story of the Mercs for Money works better here than it ever has before. And even Deadpool 2099 seems to be working itself out. There are flaws, but I'm truly hopeful now for the future of this series.

The Worlds greatest run of Deadpool has not been as good as the previous Deadpool run. For me it hasn’t had the heart and hasn’t had the depth of story that the comic has previously had.

The additions of Shiklah and the Mercs for Money has not resonated with me and whilst I have continued to enjoy reading the series it has not been as engaging as I would have liked.

Another great instalment in the "World's Greatest" series, although the link to Civil War II is quite non-existant. Finally got to see how the whole Deadpool is a hero happened through some flashbacks which was nice. I also loved that we got to see another issue of Deadpool 2099!

The most tertiary of crossovers. Deadpool and the Mercs For Money have their own mini civil war. Deadpool and Shiklah are having problems. And Deadpool 2099 continues to have problems with her sister.
