Breaking the Girl by M.C. Webb is a dark story of desire. Two souls collide, breaking open a long forgotten past, and a very tortured present. What drives the lovers closer, may be the very thing the tears them apart.
Axel Stone is a porn star, a highly successful porn star. Now semi-retired and frigidly cold, Axel stumbles through life the only way he knows how – lots of booze and women. With more than 1500 movies over his short career, Axel has slowly removed himself from filming, opting instead to “train” woman for the industry resulting in their near stardom as they emerge onto the adult film sets. Every director wants one of Axel’s girls because Axel’s girls, make money. And Payton Knight needs money. Homeless, survivor of a horrific ordeal has left Payton broke and desperate. A chance encounter to meet and be trained by Axel, with the possibility of making enough cash to right her wrongs, Payton jumps at the chance. It doesn’t hurt she is instantly attracted to the leading man. Neither get what they expect and as they both struggle with which reality is less damning, both Axel and Payton pay an ultimate price.
*This novel contains adults content including death and rape. It is for Mature audiences only.

**Contains spoiler** Unfortunately, Breaking The Girl was a really rough read for me. Written in both Axel and Payton’s POV, the story, itself, didn’t hold true for me. Add some very disturbing and harsh scenes, it took a lot for me to finish. I think I pushed myself to complete the story just to see where it would go. Call me curious.
I’m not sure I can even summarize the story. So many things hit the wrong nerve with me and had me taking deep breaths that it’s hard for me to put into words. I can normally read “dark” books and look at them with an open mind. But, Axel had me really upset. I wasn’t sure, from the beginning, if I was going to like him or not. I gave him Kudo’s in the beginning, then I hated him and then, about three-quarters of the way into the story, I liked him again. God’s gift to woman, to me, he was not. There were times that I just thought that he was conceited, egotistical and inhumane. Then he showed signs of kindness. I think he was just as confused as Payton.
Payton didn’t do much to endear me to her either. She was needy and needy female characters leave a bad taste in my mouth. She wasn’t being honest, she knew the rules and she made every attempt to break them. No matter how many times Axel tried to warn her away from the business, she just kept pushing back until he gave her what she wanted. Then, she didn’t like the way he treated her. When everything he told her would happen, happened, she ran.
Then there was Axel’s best friend, Reece. A man of the law does not, under any circumstances, help you commit murder and arson, assist you in covering up an assault and a rape … no matter how good a friend he is. Yes, I know this is fiction, I know that it’s a story but, some things have to be true to life. He just didn’t ring true for me.
I also had some timeline and consistency problems. I do enjoy both POV’s in a story. I like knowing what the other is thinking and their possible motives for their actions. But, it took so long for Payton’s past to come out, that I kind of had it figured out by then. Not exactly what happened, but who Ben was.
The ending was beautiful and I really wished M. C. Webb showed us this side of both Axel and Payton. They both turned out to be loving and caring people with bad upbringings. I honestly think that if I saw this side of them earlier in the book, I would have enjoyed them more. But, I would have still had a problem with the brutality of the story. I’m just wondering if Payton was just a little more honest with Axel, more up front with him as to why she was trying to enter the industry, if things would have been different.

Breaking ALL the rules!! Holy hotness! (I love when a book makes me want to start a review this way!!!) This book is full of so much angsty and seductive fun! Axel is just trying to get on with his life semi-retired from the porn industry. However, when you are as hot and as good as Axel, no one wants to let the talent go. He is currently bribed into ‘training’ the next big thing to hit the porn industry. Thirty days with Axel and you come out ready to be everything a porn director wants to see on camera. He does manage to maintain some control of his life this way as he has a dark past that he rather not revisit by overdoing the stress. “I don’t want anything to do with the girls other than training them, and that is plenty, thank you very much.” That is until he is talked into taking on Payton. The quite yet seductive woman who just wants to escape the loneliness of being homeless. “That’s thirty days of sleeping in a bed, eating real food, and showering somewhere other than a truck stop. I haven’t done that now for months. Living homeless is exactly what everyone thinks it is, wretched, and the worst kind of lonely anyone can imagine.” Neither of them really know what is about to hit them. Axle can barely contain his desire for her from the get go, and that is so against every rule he has ever laid out. “She has to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. No not cute, f****** gorgeous.” Of course this is definitely easier said than done. Again, Axel has rules that he must follow to maintain his past addictions, right? “He’s letting me do whatever I want. Even sleep with him, eat with him, and shower with him. Why, when that’s against the rules?” They both have to face their pasts and work towards figuring out how to get to a happily ever after. The way it unfolds is a sexy story to follow for sure!
This is my first read by this Author. Breaking The Girl is written by M.C. Webb. This story is about Axel Stone and Payton Knight. Axel was a highly successful porn star. Now he is somewhat retired. Axel is going through life drinking and sleeping around. Axel wants more for his life, but all he has ever known is porn. Axel has already shut off his emotions. But since Axel is the best porn star. One day Axel gets an offer, he can't pass up. The job is to train the new girls for porn, before they film. Axel spends a month training the girls, everything they will need to do on film. That is when he meets Payton. Payton has been through a lot, she's homeless. Payton needs money. Payton is picked by Randall, he sends her to Axel for training. Payton isn't like the other girls, she's soft spoken, nice, and sweet, but she's a strong woman. She'd do what she has to do. When Payton meets Axel, she's attracted to him, Axel is very much attracted to Payton too. But both Axel and Payton have gone through a lot in their lives, they have horrible past. Together, they are perfect. I enjoyed Axel and Payton. The chemistry between them is off the charts. But this is a dark story. It's filled with a lot of emotions. This is a great story. I really enjoyed it. I could not put the book down. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. M.C. Webb did a great job on this book. The story is well written. I'm looking forward to reading more from this Author. I recommend this book. 5 Stars. Thank you, M.C. Webb. Great work :)
Breaking the Girl was a dark unconventional romance between a porn star and a girl looking to be trained by the famous porn star. Breaking the Girl was intensely sexual. Axel was a semi-retired porn star who trained girls in the porn film industry. Payton was a homeless twenty year old girl desperate to earn some quick cash. Axel spent years having meaningless sex in the porn industry becoming numb to feelings and emotions. Porn was all Axel knew how to do. Barb offered Axel an opportunity to train the girls before they filmed. Every month Axel spent thirty days at his home teaching the girls how to act and pose on film. Payton was an attractive twenty year old girl who was recruited by Randall and sent to be trained by Axel. Payton was graceful, soft-spoken, strong willed, innocent and naive.
Both characters had a tortuous past. However, It was not this past that drew them together, it was simply an attraction. These two volleyed back and forth between rejection and guilt. Both remained unaware of the affect they had for one another. Both these characters were developed quite well and the strength and growth presented was courageous. Both were survivors from their past and of their current mistakes. Axel was eager to leave the film industry behind while Payton was eager to begin filming in the porn industry. Axel tried to educate Payton with the misconceptions about the business but Payton was adamant about making money therefore ignoring the warning signs associated within the business.
If I had more time in a day to read I would have spent every waking moment attached to this book. I'm quite familiar with MC Webb books, having read The Black Trilogy so I was prepared for the dark and heartbreaking characters. Her words are addicting making me both anxious and nervous for the outcome. I heeded the warnings with trepidation.
“You are a salesman. You have to sell yourself within a few seconds or people get bored”. This quote could be used to reference an author as well. An authors job is too hook the reader from the very beginning and maintain that hook until the end. I found MC Webb did just that. She hooked me from beginning to end.
There were many characters involved in the filming business that added to the layers of the story. Each minor character played an essential role in Breaking the Girl.
This book was an emotional, traumatic and at times disturbing read, that got to me on many levels. Please be advised that there is a graphic rape scene towards the last quarter of the book so if this is a trigger, please be prepared.
Axel is a trainer, he teaches women how to become stars in the porn industry; Payton is the naive, fresh faced, homeless girl who is lured by the chance to make good money in an industry that uses men and women up, then tends to throw them away with no further thought.
Axel knows that Payton is not suited for the industry she so desperately wants to join and initially refuses to train her, doing his best to turn her off the path she has chosen. However he eventually caves into Payton's requests and trains her.
I was conflicted and frustrated on occasion with Payton, she was so naive and oblivious to the “real world” that at times I wanted to shake sense into her. On the other hand, you could almost feel Axel's dissatisfaction and disillusionment with life and the industry he has been in for so many years.
Axel has a plan, he has mapped out his future and cannot wait to leave the porn industry whilst Payton is anxious to be as successful as she can to make the money she so desperately needs. Axel also knows that it will not be easy to leave the industry, particularly since his horrible business partner Barb is as determined to keep him tied to her as he is to escape. Side note – I really hated Barb!
Throughout the first part of the book, Payton often refers to Ben, however it isn't until close to the end that you find out why she is homeless and what her story is and why she is so determined to make it big in the porn industry and make the money she so desperately needs.
In Payton, Axel finds a glimmer of hope that his life does not have to be the cold and emotionally barren place it has been for so many years. But will the love that these two find, survive the terror and horrible ordeal that almost destroys both Payton and Axel or will they be torn apart?
I enjoyed the writing style and character development and I will be looking to read more from M.C.Webb
Alex Stone is a star maker – well, of women that want to make it in the adult movie industry, that is. He has made it big in the industry and knows what it takes to be a star but is jaded, tired and ready to get out completely when he is talked into taking on the training of Payton. Payton needs money and feels that without an education or real skills her best chance is to be in the movies, porn movies. As jaded as Alex is he sees right through Payton’s naiveté and tries to dissuade her from pursuing what she seems to think will make her life more secure.
Payton and Alex had secrets and issues to deal with. Alex came across cold at points but did warm up and grow through the story. Payton really did have a one track mind that did not allow her to really see what her future would be if she continued on the course she set for herself.
This is a dark, gritty, sometimes painful read with graphic scenes that include a disturbing rape and violence. That said, this is a book that made me care not only for Payton and Alex but also for the supporting characters. It made me feel and think and hope that the two would find a healthy way forward with their lives. And, I am now VERY curious about Alex’s friend Reece and wonder if he might show up in a future book – I would definitely like for him to ;)
Thank you to NetGalley and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) for the copy of this book. This is my honest review.
This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
**for the author*** I left a message for you in the feedback area of my NetGalley review.
And on with the review... There is a rape scene that future readers need to be made aware of. No, it wasn't our hero who was the perpetrator either.
The title is "Breaking the Girl." Yeah she was broken, but the hero was far from unscathed during all this. He probably changed the most.
I was scared she wasn't going to let me have my HEA. Seriously, patience is a virtue. Like was our heroine said near the end of the book, "Although we are not a traditional love story, we are a love story."
I read this book in under 24 hours, it's very readable and gives the reader an insight into the porn industry. There are some extremely uncomfortable scenes, one of which is brutal but as hard as some bits were to read I couldn't actually put it down. It was hard not to let the main characters get under my skin and start to care about them. I'd not normally go for a book for this genre but I'm glad it did, its story with stay with me. Thank you to the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book. I expect it will be a hit once it's released next month.
A very sad and interesting take on the adult film industry. At first, I had a hard time connecting with the story but as the story progressed and I started getting the backstories of both Axel and Payton, that changed. This might not be a conventional love story but it was love all the same.
Breaking the Girl is a stand-alone novel from author M.C. Webb. This is my first read from this author and I will defiantly be on the lookout for more books and series to come from this incredible talented author.
This book completely and utterly captures you from the first page until the very end. I sat and read this book not wanting to put it down afraid of something I may miss. This book’s story line and characters completely draw you in where you are unable to put the book down. The emotions and feelings that are brought through the pages of this book is what I believe make this story so much more real, heart breaking and raw. The situations that our characters Axel & Payton have faced in their past and what they continue to face through this book truly show how far some people to truly have to come to face their own demons. They may still live with their past influencing their future but they try everything that can to keep things from happening again. These situations that occurred in this book were real and raw, heart breaking, and faces things that are upsetting and I think M.C Webb writing captures them and writes about them in the right way, they are wrote in a very mature, real way that entrances the reader further into finding out more about what will further go with Axel & Payton’s journey!
This book and the characters journey take us on an emotional rollercoaster we felt anger, saddest, loneliness, pain, sorrow, Heart-ache, angst, passion, longing and just a sense of wanting to belong somewhere but most of all we have to face the brokenness of these two people I had tears streaming down my face due to the realness of the situations that Axel and Payton have to face on a daily basis and what they have faced in their past. Through this book you feel as though you are facing this journey along with them, we follow their ups and their downs, the twists and turns that continue to come our way, but just as you think you have recovered from one ordeal we get faced with another blow that you never expected to happen but along the journey that these two face together you can also feel the undeniable connection that these two people have for each other. The sexy scenes are hot and passionate and just show how connected these two really are.
Axel & Payton come into each other’s life when Payton needs to find somewhere to belong and to give her the opportunity to finally get some money together to get back home to her heart-breaking reality and Axel is trying his hardest to turn away from the industry that has slowly been destroying his life even more than it was to start with. For all that these two have overcome or even face, show just how strong and resilient these people are. They slowly start bringing light in to each other’s worlds. A light that is the guiding light of hope that they can face anything, but things only last like this for a while before the things that brought them together begins to break them both, turning something that was slowly making each of them change their ways into something that could truly becoming toxic to each of them. But when things go from bad to worse, then good to downright nasty things will truly never be the same with either of them. I loved reading Axel & Payton relationship grow from the start, they both have things in common with each other that they didn’t realise but their connection just continues to grow in a way that neither of them expected or wanted to start with, but never the less I was routing for them to find a place to finally get their HEA after everything they have both faced.
Another great thing with this book is that it was written in dual POV’s. I love reading it from the characters POV’s as we get to really see their thoughts and feeling from them rather than the other person. I also think it helps connect with a character as you get to understand some of their reasons of their actions.
This is an incredible fast paced, hard-hitting, emotional yet powerful read that will captivate you from the beginning. Your heart will break and then re-heal and you will be fighting alongside these characters all the way, hoping that that these two characters finally get something they both deserve, a HEA. Do not miss this read, it will entrance you and hold you there until the very end!
From the instant I read the blurb for Breaking the Girl, I knew this book was going to rock my world. This is my first time reading a book by M. C. Wells, and I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, I will be buying every single book this author has written. I will not even have to read the synopsis. I just know they will blow my mind. Breaking the Girl packed such a punch, that I am still reeling.
I was so excited to begin reading this book and just had a feeling that it was going to be unbelievably amazing. I just did not realise the impact it would have on me. Breaking the girl was not just another story about two scarred and battered souls finding each other. It was so much more. This book delivers all that and more on deeply exceptional level. This book gives the reader a raw, no holds barred look into Payton and Axel and the seedy side of life. The good, the bad, and the brutally ugly. M. C. Wells delves into their world of porn, pain and suffering. But underneath the ugly, there is blinding beauty, twisted into a tale that totally bewitched and moved me beyond anything I have read before.
Payton and Axel both endured unspeakable things, that often shocked me to the core. Breaking the Girl had me totally mesmirised. I absorbed every word and when life got in the way and I was unable to read, my thoughts were constantly with this pair and their story. The depth that this author has created in each character defies belief and the anticipation was overwhelming at times. I was continuously surprised by the talent this author demonstrates on every single page. I can honestly say the story never once failed to keep me captivated and hanging off every word.
Breaking the Girl dazzled me, wrecked me, and provided me with a whole new reading experience. M. C. Wells held nothing back, and as a reader, I got to read a brutally edgy, dramatic and fascinating story that was harsh, but somehow left me with a full heart. The level of quality was immeasurable and while the body of this book is shocking and not for the faint hearted, the delivery could not have been any better.
Breaking the Girl is my top read of 2017. It even tops my favourite book of 2016. I am sure it will take a long time to read another of this quality and I am certain the next M. C. Wells book I read will further enhance my reading experience, making it almost impossible for other authors to met the same standard. As I said, this is the first book I have read by M. C. Wells and I am still stunned by the impact it has had on me.
5 stars for everything that this author has created in this story. I wish I could give more, as 5 stars is a pitiful rating when Breaking the Girl is deserving of so many more. A priceless gift is what M. C. Wells has given me.
Payton Knight is at her wits end. She is currently homeless and is tired of sleeping on the streets and looking for work and food to get her by. She needs money a lot of money. A couple told her she could work in adult films and make some money. They will even train her with the most famous male porn star ever, Axel Stone. She jumps at the chance and on a plane to sunny California. Axel was tired of the drugs, the sex and his empty soul. He decided to train females to work the porn movies instead of doing any more movies himself. Maybe in time he can reclaim some of his soul. Upset at his partner for making him train one more girl instead of taking the vacation he planned he was not a happy camper when he saw Payton. He has a schedule and rules to keep everyone on track. Payton seems to be breaking every rule he has or is he breaking them for her?
Payton and Axel's relationship or lack there of started off rocky. Axel was mad and Payton was confused. He wanted her gone and she was only interested in making money. Stalemate! Well kinda since she is at his place and threatens to go to a lesser trainer neither one wanted to budge. Payton liked Axel and Axel was having indescribable feelings for another person the first time ever. Both have traumatic backgrounds and don't think either of them feel or deserve love of another. It was interesting watching Axel grow and it was helpful being able to read his thoughts. Reece is the best friend ever! He is protective of Axel but wants to see him happy too. Great secondary character. He has been friends with Axel for years and that only strengthens their relationship. Maybe him and Adelaide will get together?
This is the first M.C. Webb book I have read. Seeing that is was about the porn lifestyle I wasn't so sure about it. Once I started reading and I was halfway through I was looking to see how many pages were left because in my mind the book was over. I was shocked to see I still had quite a few chapters left. Most romances the reader can figure out what is going to happen and how the book will end. I was not able to do that with this book. This book ran me through a gambit of emotions. I was happy, sad, shocked, mad, had shivers, relief and had tears. This is an excellent book, probably the second best book I have read this year and I will be looking at getting other books by this author. Thank you for writing this!
Warning: this book may contain triggers for some readers.
This was a very different book to read, definitely not like anything I've read before. Payton has lost everything, absolutely everything in her life and is desperate. So desperate that she decides to turn to the adult film industry to make money. Not wanting to start at the bottom, she signs a contract to be trained by a retired adult film star after which she believes she'll be able to earn the money she needs.
The moment Axel sees Payton he knows she's different than every other girl that has come to him for training. Almost immediately, he treats her differently. Rules are broken, barriers are crossed and friendships begin to form. Through it all, Payton tries to remember the reason she is with Axel while Axel tries to forget what he is supposed to be teaching her.
This book puts the adult film industry in a very real light. The author doesn't sugar coat how rough the industry is and what the statistics are for girls who begin making films. When Axel finally begins teaching Payton, he is a cold sadistic bastard but what Payton fails to realize is that all Axel is doing is showing her what the adult film industry is truly like.
When Payton's reason for needing money finally comes to light, you're going to want a box of tissues nearby because it is a tear jerker for certain! It was definitely far from anything I was expecting!
I loved, loved, loved the ending of the book but wish the author would have spent a little more time on that portion of their lives before the book ended. I wanted more, so much more!
I'm also hoping that at some point we get Reese's story because there's definitely a story there.
There is no trigger warning on the description of this book and I feel like there should be. There is a series of very violent scenes that happen towards the end of the story.
I typically read stories as “blind dates” meaning I don’t read reviews or synopses; this was NOT a blind date. I did read the synopsis prior to “cracking the binding” so kind of knew what to expect. KIND OF.
Breaking the Girl is the story of Axel Stone. Axel is a guy who landed in the porn business because he was “discovered” by an older woman who preys on young boys and encourages them with the lure of money. He is semi-retired now, making enough money and teaching newbies “how to succeed in the business”.
Payton Knight is a 20 year old, homeless college drop out. She has a past that she doesn’t share about and in fact lies about. Payton is lured to LA with the promise of money. She jumps at the chance to make right a wrong she feels she needs to correct.
I was really intrigued by this book and read it cover to cover in almost one sitting. It’s a book that can qualify under a couple of different categories and if you picked up the book at one section, it’s an entirely different book than another section. The story is almost broken into quarters or thirds. MC Webb does a good job at character development creating mystery and suspense around events from the past and the present. This book broke my heart, angered me and made me cringe. I also had to close my eyes during one particular scene as if I was watching a movie.
The “inside look” into what goes on in the porn industry was written with harsh truthfulness and I now have a different take on Tumblr GIF’s
Breaking the girl by M. C. Webb a fantastic four-star read. This is the first book by this author I have read, and if the rest of her books are like this, then I am sure I will be reading more. This has been an interesting and sometimes hard read. This book does deal with trigger issues and is only suitable for people aged over 18 only. Axel Stone is jaded and frigidly cold, he has seen enough of life and sex to last him ten lifetimes. He may have only been staring in Porn films for a relatively short time, but he has appeared in lots and lots of films, he’s a very popular actor for his very unique talents. He can come across as very dark, and disturbed. He even gets fed up training his girls, who gets bored being paid to make women better lovers? As his story is revealed it becomes apparent why he is the way he is. He shows his true colours in the end and that makes him the more powerful man. His character was one I struggled to get to grips with at first but in the end, I just wanted to take away his pain any way I could. Payton Knight is a broke, homeless girl she is desperate to get a job, and she is so desperate for the money that when she gets the chance to leave the world she’s in, she can’t and in doing so may make the worst decision of her life. Both main characters have a history that you get glimpses of through the story, and I was all over the place, it was an emotional roller-coaster as you see their stories develop and you understand why they may be the way they are.
**This novel contains adults content including death and rape** Axel Stone is a porn star, a highly successful porn star. I am lost for words (which trust me doesn’t happen often). This was rollercoaster of angst, seduction and raw passion. I could not put it down and consumed it in one sitting. It is the first book I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. It has been very well written and well thought out.
This was not an easy book to read, not because it was written poorly, in fact, it was written very well. It was hard to read because it moved me. I think there is a tendency to make the world of a love-story somewhat like a fairy tale. And that's fun to read, but you know going into it, that it's not real. This love story is real. The characters are real people who have to deal with harsh realities. That's what made this story a five-star. My heart hurt for these characters. I wanted to reach through the book and hug them and even at times kick their butts because they acted stupidly. They were multi-dimesnsional and well-developed. Each character played a significant role in plot progression. As a voracious reader, I appreciate a plot line with no wasted time. The plot never lagged, and I had to keep turning the pages to see what happened next. Each scene flowed into the next. It only took me one afternoon to read it. This book has more than one scene that may trigger negative emotions for the reader, but I feel like the author did not sensationalize any the graphic scenes. Nor did she play them down and gloss over them. They just were what they were. Read the blurb for this book and understand what it is about before you read it.
Breaking the Girl ByM.C.Webb is my first book by this author.I will definitely be reading more this book captured my attention from the beginning to the end. It's a dark unconventional romance about a porn star and a girl who's looking to make money and be trained by the famous porn star.
Both Axel and Payton both have torturous past
Axel is a semi retired porn star who now trains the girls in the porn film industry. Axel is growing tired of it all,the training the girls to the whole porn business in general. Payton is a twenty year old homeless girl who is in desperate need for money.Shes already lost everything that meant anything, the only person left is her brother Ben who's not in a good condition. Payton jumps on the chance to go from Mississippi to California for the chance to be trained by the Great Axel Stone. After arriving she's already a nervous wreck from the flight. The attraction is pretty much instant. Axel starts having "feelings" he's not familiar with, he tries to warn Payton exactly what she was getting herself into.Did Payton listen?Does she make enough money to take care of Ben?This story flowed so good. The sex was intense.Theres a bit of suspense and definitely some romance but not typical. This a must read especially if you want to know what happens! .I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Breaking the Girl by M.C. Webb surprised me, in a good way. The first half is pretty steady. Payton is a homeless girl with a secret reason for needing to get into the industry and get her money. Axel is also a slowly unraveled mystery. He seems cold and closed off, and the things he is supposed to train her to do are surprising. But yeah, they are going along, getting to know each other, things are happening, very interesting story. Halfway through- boom! Things take a dark, chaotic turn I couldn’t have ever expected and continue down this path! It was intense and suspenseful and shocking! The end made me cry.
It’s told in dual points of view with a happily ever after. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and they have a way of drawing you in, the characters were developed and complex, the situations described so I had a clear picture, and the story flowed well. I would read more from M.C. Webb in the future.
Payton and Axel consumed me with their story. Two broken souls that hurt so bad they didn’t think they could love.
The storyline is so so good I just kept wanting more… I needed more. I really couldn’t fathom what way this story would go but now as I sit here after finishing it I’m so happy it went the way it did. I’m gonna go see what else this author has written as this was a big five stars from me.
This is the story of Axel and Payton, a porn star and a woman looking to break into porn. There is a lot of explicit sex, both consensual and nonconsensual. Underneath the sex is a very sweet love story.
I received a free copy from the author and goodreads giveaways.
"No, we are not a traditional love story, but we are a story indeed."
Retired porn star now trainer to the next upcoming stars meets his match in a young woman who is just too naive for her own good. She's different, not seeking fame nor lost to a drug haze she seems to have something unique motivating her. From the moment they meet Axel knows she is different, she makes him feel. Re awakening emotions long since blunted by the harshness of the industry Axel wants nothing more than to show how her new life will destroy her, turn her into something she will no longer recognise yet instead he finds himself enjoying her company and her body. Teaching her the erotic pleasures of the flesh can he break the girl to ensure she will be the next big thing in the adult film business? Or will she come to her senses before its too late?
This story does not glamorise the world of porn, it shows the realities of the men and woman who lose themselves in a whirlwind of regret, committing one more act of depravity just for the next hit, just until they can break free. Stripped of their dignity just vessels for others perverse pleasure this story really resonated with the damaging effects of lust, power and desperation. It was a powerful story that although has brutal scenes that I thought were necessary to the story, not just to shock the reader, that haunts the reader long after the story has been read. It's achingly sad and I felt like both main characters rose from the ashes like Phoenix's...I was put through an emotional wringer and enjoyed every moment.

Thank you United Indie Book Blog for allowing me to review this book. I am looking forward to reading more books from this Arthur.
oh wow this book had me in tears if rape and violence are a trigger for you then this is not the book for you.
it centres around payton who takes on a job in the porn industry cause she needs money and fast but needs training up she is sent to the best in the business Axel who is now retired but still trains the girls to look good on camera.
payton is doing this for someone called ben who we don't get to hear about till the last half of the book and when you find out who he is and why she is doing this it will break your heart.
as soon as they meet sparks fly and they start having sex after a week payton hurts axel's feelings he then becomes distant and cold and starts to show payton what the porn industry is really like. she then can't take it any more she ups and leaves its here where the story gets dark and horrible there is quite a long and horrible rape scene towards the end and violence toward both characters is quite brutal you have been warned.

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Axel lives a lonely empty life: he trains girls to a put on a show so they can star in porn movies. He hates what he does but when a last minute request to train a girl comes through, he reluctantly finds himself agreeing.
Payton desperately needs money; when an opportunity arises to train under Axel, she grabs it. She's drawn to Axel like a moth to a flame - he's gorgeous, sexy but a grumpy, cold git (that's putting it mildly).
Axel is supposed to be training her; but he doesn't want to teach her to screw other men. What's wrong with him, a job is a job and she's with him to learn - so why is he breaking all his rules?
He wants to save her from the fate that awaits her but she's determined not to listen to reason. Payton must choose her own path but what price will she pay for picking the wrong one?
Can Axel walk away from the woman that's awoken something inside him?
Breaking the Girl was intense, dark, and at times disturbing.
Axel came across cold, hard and abrupt but under the facade he's a man whose still fighting the demons of his past. The past has taught him not to feel or get close but one woman gets through the cracks - what makes her so special? I admired him throughout; he tries to warn Payton about the industry, the men and the heavy demands - goes to show he genuinely cared for her wellbeing and didn't want her to become another failed statistic. My heart broke for what he was forced to watch - it was horrifying and traumatic but yet instead of thinking about himself, he wants to make sure Payton's okay ( my review doesn't make sense but I don't want to give away too much to ruin the story).
Payton comes across very graceful yet delicate but she was very naive, innocent and at times immature. She's oblivious to the harsh reality of the porn industry. I have to admit her behaviour really frustrated the hell out of me. I felt for Axel: and understood his annoyance, and frustration because no matter what he did or said, she just didn't get that having an orgasm during filming was a rare occurrence; she'll be used/screwed in every way possible to make money.
There's a scene towards the end that might disturb some readers, involving rape - so please be prepared. This scene caught me off guard, and I found my heart breaking for both Payton and Axel - for their terrible ordeal and the aftermath.
The author did an amazing job; this is one of those books you simply won't be able to put down. The characters were developed beautifully from start to finish and the author captured their inner turmoil and conflicted emotions beautifully throughout. Im definitely adding this author to my favourite list. Don't hesitate to give this book a go because you won't be left disappointed.
The first part of this story was a great read. The author gives us an insight into the porn industry from the point of view of someone wanting to break into movies. We see exactly how much has to go into getting a female ready for the business, it's not as simple as everyone thinks. I believe the author has done an incredible job of providing an insight into the life of a trainer and trainee. The characters are written well, the storyline is a good one, and I found myself keeping reading because I was desperate to know what was going to happen. There is also a bit of mystery going on as I wasn't sure what was happening with the character of Ben. I was intrigued as to where that would go.
The second part of the story was an even better read. Be warned though, it's not an easy read. What the characters go through is awful, and the aftermath dictates how their lives progress from then on. I was rooting for them both so much and what the author put them both through is shocking. Having read the whole book I can see why they had to go through what they did though, and the epilogue is very well done.
I haven't read anything from this author before but I believe I will be checking out her other books in the near future.
I enjoyed this book and read it cover to cover which made a change as most books lately have been a DNF.
Axel Stone is a highly succesful porn star but having become disillusioned with the porn industry, he now “trains” woman for the industry resulting in their near stardom as they emerge onto the adult film sets. Every director wants one of Axel’s girls because Axel’s girls, make money. However, Axel is also becoming bored of training and wants a month off but his Manager persuades him to train one more girl as she is 'different'.
Payton Knight needs money and so she is prepared to spend a month with Axel while he trains her for the porn industry but from the moment they meet, there is a spark between them and then when Axel begins to train Payton, he discovers something about ther that shocks him and he asks her to leave but Payton needs to earn some money and persuades him to let her stay.
Payton mentions 'Ben a lot and we have to keep reading to find out what her back story is and we don''t fully find out until three quarters of the way through.. Axel also has .a backstory which we slowly come to learn. He does not have relationships nor does he have many friends other than his best friend Reece (who's story I found a bit far fetched). But he feels a connection to Payton and they spend five days having sex until Payton hurts Axel and he responds by becoming cold and unfeeling and begins her proper training which Payton does not enjoy.
I liked Axel and Payton but the story takes a far fetched turn and I didn't really like that aspect. The story then picks up again five moths later and I enjoyed that part.
I wasn't sure about the authors depiction of the porn industry. I felt like I was reading more about Pimps and their Prostitues especially when we read the behaviour of the 'Pimps'. Also, although the story has sex scenes, considering Axel was supposed to be training Payton to become a porn star, there wasn't a lot of descriptive sex scenes, they were rather vanilla.
This was my first read by this author and I look forward to reading more of her stories.
Numerous trigger warnings for this one including rape.
This book centers around the porn industry which didn't bother me at all but it was quite dark and a little rough in spots as far as being too descriptive.
The characters both have some back trauma in their lives as one is retired for the industry and training the new recruits. The girl who is the newbie is way to naïve for this type of jumping in with both feet. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. Not a fan of the rape scene in a book unless its about healing from that trauma. The author did allow the character to come into their own and flourish a little which was good especially for our male lead.
Im not saying don't click it up but I am saying if you do be warned. Thank you for the opportunity to read. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
