In this sweeping, epic series surrounding the early Church, three women must cling to their newfound faith when physical and spiritual forces threaten all they hold dear. In the face of such persecution, how can faith and love survive?

No, just no. I hate to slander a book but this was just awful. Every page just made me cringe. So much of this is historically inaccurate, to begin with. The characters are all so annoying: either they're crying non-stop or they're hiding romantic feelings for one of the other characters. It doesn't tie up a lot of the plots it introduces (which there are a lot, and it eventually got quite hard to keep track of all of them) and doesn't have a satisfactory ending. Don't waste the time or money on this book.
All three books were a huge disappointment to me. They're not at all like Janette Oke's older books, like the Love Comes Softly series and the Canadian West series. I love those, but this book just made me cringe so much. It may be classified as Christian Romance, but it is like 198% Christian, and 2% Romance (lol). So unless you want to read just a plain, book about people living in the time right after Christ's Ascension, I would recommend not reading it.
Very clean book, based in Bible times. Some of the side characters were real people from the Bible. I find I had a hard time reading an entire series by Janette Oak though. The first two books were good but by the third I was ready for a different author. Not that the writing is bad, I’m just very picky. I did appreciate how she developed the same characters throughout the series and introduced new characters in each book.
I made it 2/3 of the way through the book, and the protagonists have hardly spent any time together. This is also about a journey to faith in Jesus, but it was dragging out and I got to where I just didn't care. Too bad, I like the characters, I like the plot, but more time on the relationship between Alban and Leah, and moving along the finding god part would have been more interesting. Or maybe that part would have been fine, if there was more of the couple interspersed.
Such a great book. Read immediately with the other two in the series.
A well developed main character, in her struggle learning about Christianity. I frequently consulted my Bible and other resources to learn more about supporting characters and situations, therefore strengthening my testimony along the way. I enjoyed reading "about the Bible" in a story line (rather than scriptural) context.
Beautifully told, a masterfully written sweeping saga of early Christian times. A must read for the faith-filled & hungry for God centered stories. And for those curious to know more about Christians and the God we serve, a good fiction entry point with strong biblical basis.
Great book, was helpful to feel like going back in time and seeing scripture lived in a new perspective. The only disappointment for me was references to Jesus having biological siblings, they were unnecessary in the story line and can be divisive dependent on the interpretation of scripture.
When i Started reading this book I did not realize it was 3 books in 1I was captivated by the beginning I couldn't put the books down I turned the page after page after page eager to find out what was happening next .For me it was a great read I enjoyed the stories the intrigue The passion and the way it tide into the bible as well.
This historical novel is well/written & takes you into the culture of the day which to me sounds like the ‘wild west’ of the day.. bandits, caravans , contraband, marriages made for wealth or status, kept women in payment for a debt..sound familiar?.. nothing new under the sun…
I really loved this trilogy of the Century ones Wife. It is beautiful in writing and the characters are just wonderful. I could read this book again and again. I highly recommend it to anyone to read and be inspired.
Walk through Acts and become a part of the first century church. Jesus is alive today and still works miracles in the lives of believers everyday. Open you eyes and heart to acceptance.
This trilogy is a breath of hope in the face of what is going on in our world at this time. No matter what our religious beliefs are, we are brought back to faith and hope through our relationship with God.
Must read for believers and seekers. Written so well you are immersed in the time period. Great characters that come to life. Based on Biblical happenings these are stories you will long remember. Definitely worth the read.
Abigail and Lexis have a history of distrust, but through faith and a very long journey come to peace. With faith in the newly risen Jesus, they both grow in trust to follow The Way.
A remarkable book with three very good stories about the church and the beginnings of the Christian church and the deciples and treatment by the romans
The first book was pretty meh, I give it 2.5 stars. It was very slow paced but the romance in the end was enchanting! In all of the 3 books in this book, the plot was slow paced, what the blurb talks about is only revealed in like the last 20 pages of each book.
The second book was getting better, there was drama and the romance was so so nice. One character dies though, and I wish we knew him longer before he died, then I would have been more upset and heartbroken at his death. But I guess that was the plot, you weren’t supposed to be expecting it (though I did sort of expect it)
The third book was WOWOWOWOWOWOW! 5 stars! I struggled to put the book down, I think it read it the fastest out of the 3 books. Because of the first 2 books, I was so attached to the characters so it felt like real life. They described Christianity so beautifully and encouragingly! I wish the romance was a little bit more, but the last 4 pages😍😍😍 I want a 4th book!
I should not be surprised that Davis Bunn's writing takes me back through history, but I hadn't expected these set so far in history would seem as real. Masterful storytelling.
