“Chanakya in Daily Life” is the another nonfiction self-help book by RadhaKrishnan Pillai. The book deals with the teachings of Chanakya with easy and descriptive explanations.
The language of the book is easy and this makes it easy to connect. The author talks about simple things in a logical way, making the book an interesting read. Consider some simple yet deep one liners written in the book.
There is a chance that while doing good work you may be confronted by moral conflicts. You may start questioning the concept of ‘good’ and ‘bad’. (Page- 83) We all go through this dilemma. Whoever has started any business or something new, will agree with this line.
There are also a lot of lines that give incentive to the hidden life. Consider this,
I am not suggesting that everyone gets the opportunity to build a massive architectural structure. But you must try to make whatever is given to you more beautiful. (Page- 116) Mr. Pillai did a commendable work keeping the language easy to read and comprehend. Even with simple words, his questions are intriguing. Consider this-
How many books do you have at home? (Page- 245) This question appears too easy to read, well answering it will make bring other questions! That’s the beauty.
The book is a must read for answering questions and patterns to have a better lifestyle and a contented life. It is a worthy self-improvement book. Overall, a must-read nonfiction.
I have almost all the books of Radhakrishnan Pillai with me but it has been so unfortunate that I only got to read 2 of them. The first book of Pillai that I read was “Chanakya In You” with which I wasn’t much impressed because I got very little to learn from it as my expectations were quite big with the author. Last week, I picked up his latest release “Chanakya in Daily Life” published by Rupa Publication. The cover page of the book is so interesting that I think the people who judge the book by its cover are already going to make this one a Bestseller. Haha! Rest, talking about the fulfillment of my expectations this time, I am in awe of the book and the kind of stuffs I got familiar with after going through the book.
The book is divided into three parts: Personal life, Professional life and Family life. Author gives insight regarding various topics under each of the section for which we should take care despite of whatever tasks we are busy in. He shares Chanakya’s words in between of the chapters and then tells us how we can follow his advice in today’s time. He also gives due credit to Chanakya for sensing the future so rightly that few of his advices are genuine even after thousand years of his writings. The best part about the book is that nothing is spoken in philosophical voice where comprehending few things becomes difficult for the reader. The easy language and simple sentence formation helps reader to capture the tips and tools shared for a happy life easily without re-reading the sentences.
The examples given in the chapters help to understand the concepts of Arthashastra and Chanakya Niti. I basically liked how even the small things like how to start the day, how to talk with others, how to be a good parent, how to maintain balance in life, how to make friends, what to do before sleeping etc. are discussed which can actually make big differences in life. Overall, this book is a recommended one for your shelf. Do not miss this book in any case. One of the best works of Radhakrishnan Pillai for sure even though I haven’t read all of his works. Haha! I rate this book 4 stars out of 5.
This book is the extract of Chanakya’s Arthashastra. Author has beautifully forged Chanakya’s teaching to be used in our day to day life. And believe me it explains everything around which our life revolve around. Book has three parts just like life of a normal being, Personal, Professional and Family. Author explains how teachings of Chanakya can be applied in our personal life to prosper each day and emerge out as a leader. How certain discipline if adopted in our life can change you into a great leader. Professional life is no different but it’s not same either because it involves group dynamics. Here you have to deal with others because your success is interlinked with others. This part will surely teach you the how to excel at your workplace. There is a saying in this part that I like to quote, ‘It is always better to under-promise and over deliver’. I think this the sure short way to shine at workplace. Now comes the last and most important part, Family Life. No personal and professional life is complete without family. I suggest each one to read this part carefully because it may help many to understand value of family in one’s life. So I suggest this book to each one of you reading my review. And I express my gratitude towards Author Radhakrishnan for writing this book.
This is a book that provides us to deal with the daily aspects of life and also different phases in life. It teaches about the management of Personal Life, Professional Life, and Family Life; also has three parts of itself. Easy to understand, learn, and follow advice from Chanakya's Arthshastra.
Chanakya in daily life(Audiobook) By: Radhakrishnan Pillai Narrated by: Kanchan Bhattacharyya Length: 6 hrs and 41 mins Chanakya, famous for his 'Arthashastra' and 'Chanakya Neeti', fascinates me. Once I'd started listening to Chanakya Neeti on youtube but I felt there was a huge gap between the psychology of people then and now. I couldn't connect, so I couldn't continue. Luckily, found this book that translates Chanakya's age old wisdom to today's needs. The author seems to have done years of thorough research on Chanakya's principles to have come up with this book. The book has 70 very short chapters. There are chapters that deal with strategies that concern the corporate world solely. So while I could relate with those scenarios, I couldn't benefit from those chapters. For instance, how to appoint managers for your team. There are just a couple of such chapters though. Fun fact - There are references in old texts that the original Kamasutra was written by Chanakya under a different name. Good book! Very clear narration. 4⭐️
Life is all about doing the right things in the right way. As the old adage puts it out “Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it into a fruit salad”. There is a clear idea of what to learn and what not to learn from vast amount of sources. But, what if you find everything in a book that is combined as a one stop solution for all those life lessons? The book “Chanakya in Daily Life” by Radhakrishnan Pillai would fill that gap. This book is all about differentiating between what is right and how to tread that path.
The blurb at the back cover of the book says “Life is unpredictable and full of challenges. One wrong step and everything can come crashing down. In such a scenario, one often wishes for a roadmap of life, but how is that possible?”
This book is a clear road map for all your doubts and worries ranging from personal, professional and family life. Taking example of an Indian guru, Chanakya and his ever popular work Arthashastra, author has come up with a book that can be read every day and for lifetime too. The book is broadly and rightly classified in to three different sections. The first part deals with the individual life and lesson that can be learnt and adopted in one’s personal life. The second part of the book deals with the professional life that teaches what one must do in their professional life. The third and final part of the book teaches the importance of a family life. Each part holds its importance and is equally connected to the other two. One cannot have a sounding personal life, but lacking professional or family life satisfaction. It is interdependent on each other and this book explains the best way of handling all these things diligently and in a profound way.
‘Chanakya in Daily Life’ is a non-fiction, self help book inspired by the teachings of the great Guru Chanakya’s book ‘Arthshastra’. Mr Pillai has simplified his teachings for a lay man to understand and incorporate in his life.
The book is sectioned into three parts: Personal Life, Professional Life and Family Life. These sections are further distributed in smaller chapters, explaining various aspects and activities one can undertake to improve his life.
The writing is simple and direct. The language is kept simple to be well understood by anyone. The matter is crisp and the book is not dragged with unwanted examples making it a quick read.
We know most of the things that are highlighted in the book but we never tend to incorporate these things thinking for it to be too trivial and petty. What I liked the most about the book is the fact how small things can make a big difference in our productivity and overall craft our lives.
This book simplifies the knowledge derived from the king maker himself making it easy for a common man to discipline his life and achieve his overall goals.I would recommend this self help book to all those who are looking for a road map to better their personal, professional and family life in tandem
it's a simple self help book in a very simple language. This makes it a very easy read. It not only helps in understanding basic aspects and issues that we have to face but also advices you how to deal with them. Together with this, the best part that I liked is that, it gives you a glimpse of ARTHASHASTRA, great work of even greater Kautalaya or Chanakaya. I have personally tried reading Arthashashtra and found it a little difficult to understand. This book only gives you a glimpse of it and I think that is enough for a common young reader. The book is structured chapter wise with each chapter covering a different topic. one can Read a chapter and then contemplate on it for some time before moving on to next. A little research on few chapter's will give you much more to ponder on and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Being a fan of Chanakaya's works and his life, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. A must read for the youngsters.
The goal of this book is to teach us to live a balanced and perfect life in all aspects like personal, professional and, family life based on Chanakya's teachings. It also tells that Chanakya's teachings are still relevant in the modern age and can be applied for the betterment of life. The lessons are valuable and trivial in nature and felt how small things can make a big difference.
Good book with appropriate references from the Arthashastra. Things that i didn't like about the book is, it talks about everything superficially. More real life examples would have been much better. Other than this issue, the book touches almost every topic from Personal, work and social life. Best thing is, there are not many books of this kind in Indian context, which was a bonus.
Good daily life advice! It's nice book with short chapters covering all the topics one might need to know. You can read any chapter any time and get nice tips and that's what is good about this book. Must read to youngsters.
Book is divided in to 3 parts - Personal, Professional & Family. Loved reading Personal & Professional part however family did get boring for me. I would recommend everyone to read first 2 parts for sure
The author jotted down some of philosophical thoughts of Chanakya in which he given his own outputs , but few of them are not relevant in this time. Overall it ia good .
The book is so relatable for me, I hope it'll be the same for you. Thanks for writing this. I'll try to apply these rules in my life. Again, Thank You. 🙏🏽
Radhakrishnan Pillai's attempt to translate Chanakya's ancient political and economic principles into modern day applications presents an interesting theoretical framework, though the execution often falls into oversimplified correlations. The book's primary strength lies in its systematic breakdown of Chanakya's sutras into applicable decision-making models.
The author's analysis of how ancient governance principles can be mapped to personal and professional situations demonstrates some intriguing patterns, particularly in sections dealing with strategic thinking and resource allocation. The parallel drawn between state craft and personal development creates an interesting framework for decision-making, though some connections feel forced rather than organic.
Where the book falters is in its sometimes superficial treatment of complex organizational dynamics. While Chanakya's principles are timeless in their basic form, their modern applications require more nuanced analysis than what's provided. The attempt to find direct correlations between ancient political strategy and modern corporate dynamics occasionally results in reductive conclusions.
The book's treatment of practical examples, while numerous, tends toward confirmation bias - selecting scenarios that fit the principles rather than thoroughly examining how these principles might fail or need modification in different contexts. The sections on personal relationship management, while logical, don't fully account for the complexity of modern social structures.
Most valuable as a primer for understanding how ancient wisdom might inform modern decision-making, though readers would benefit from applying more critical analysis to the proposed correlations. The book works better as a starting point for developing personal strategies rather than as a comprehensive guide to modern application of Chanakyan principles.
Chanakya in daily life by Radhakrishna Pillai is like a fresh breath amidst the chaos of the humdrum. This book is an attempt by the author to instil self confidence to carry out your daily tasks without being positioned by the daily chaos of life. We carry our daily chores without stopping for a minute and peeping into the fact why are actually constantly running from pillar to post without contemplating why are in the race to achieve something without knowing its purpose. We get up in the morning, get ready, rush to the office and by the time we come back we are so exhausted that we hardly have any time for personal recreation. Why are we in this situation? If we think carefully we will realise that the root cause of all this is lack of planning and gaining an insight into who we are and what do we want from this life? Well if we maintain a diary of everyday tasks and tack it off as we accomplish them we will witness a sea change in our outlook towards our life and how we treat others. Recreation for oneself includes spending time with our loved ones and family, listening to music, indulging in a hobby and meditate for some time in the day. The professional life includes involving all the team members in the organization to create an effective strategy of the work that requires to be accomplished. We should also be very clear as to what our work is and what does it entail and then plan accordingly. All this and much more is included in this book which provides a holistic viewpoint about how to deal with life. Many such nuances if followed will make the living of an individual a smooth sail.

There are some chapters where such points are covered that are not exactly applicable to today’s time. The author tried to hide some talks which are not relevant today by not explaining them properly.

One of the remarkable book by Radhakrishnan Pillai on becoming a master on personal, professional and family front. I wish I would have read this book at the start of the year.
Chanakya had developed a state of art management science centuries before in India. Most of the modern day management aspects were already planned & implemented by Chanakya and they are available in written form. Many of the modern day management gurus are not even close to the solutions provided by Chanakya. Radhakrishnan helps in decoding this knowledge and provides modern day situations for easy implementation.
