This is an updated cover edition of for ASIN B00S38JEXK.

Courtney Sears entered the exclusive Club Alpha Cove, a BDSM club on David’s Island, all for the sake of uncovering a syndicate. She was an undercover FBI agent, as tough as nails and as sassy as they come. She led a lonely life, all due to a tragedy six years prior that forced her to draw away from anyone that meant something to her. Her job became her life, she took chances no one else would, but at least all her loved ones were kept alive.

Ruark Greer decided she was his the moment he laid eyes on her and set motions in place to keep her returning to his club as his sub. Courtney was appalled when the bust was successful and found she had no other choice but to remain at the Club as a trainee sub. Yet, her fascination with the gorgeous hunky Master known as my Liege, grew and under his unyielding hands, she discovered a need she could not deny.

Even though Courtney did her utmost to keep an emotional distance from him, Ruark refused to back down. No matter how many hard FBI Agents she controlled, in the Club she was a sassy submissive, yet sweetly vulnerable. He soon realized her defenses were keeping her on the fringe of her sexuality and living life to the fullest.

Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play, BDSM theme and elements.

Excerpt
Courtney was actually quite annoyed at the fact that she was under instruction from Ruark not to play. So, to get at least some action, she sassed Master Quinlan and ended up over a spanking bench, to receive ten strokes with a paddle.
“Master Quinlan, is this a demonstration, or a punishment?”
He was back! Oh shit!
“Punishment, my Liege. She sassed me. She is due ten with the paddle.”
“Is this her first punishment?”
“No, second.”
“Hmm … well, why don’t I take care of that for you?”
“As you wish, my Liege.”
She felt his hands on her hips, slowly stroking the seam of the denim short she was wearing. He walked to the front and slowly but deliberately tightened leather wrist cuffs around her wrists and hooked them to the steel shackles on the legs of the horse. He slowly lowered the front part of the bench and lifted the back part higher. Her ass was now sticking high into the air. He stroked his finger down her cheek and leaned down.
“Now is it not luck I decided to come back early, little pet?”
He walked back to the other side and she gasped when she felt him lift her hips and unzip her shorts.
“These are in my way. They have to go.”
“No!”
No matter how she wiggled or tried to kick at him, he had her shorts off and threw them on her back. By the time he had her legs tied as well, she was breathless. She gasped when his large hand stroked over her ass. Her ass, sticking up in the air, with only a thong to cover her pussy!
She moaned when his finger dipped beneath the thong and stroked over her labia.
“Sweet and so wet, little pet. Not that I can see anything now, but from the glimpses I got at the Fashion show, you have a beautiful pussy.”
She groaned and rested her forehead on the padded bench, her long hair like a curtain around her face. Suddenly his fingers were gone and stroked over her ass.
“Beautiful. I can’t wait to whip that pussy of yours, my pet. Now tell me, why are you being punished?”
“I-I sassed Master Quinlan.” She stammered, the thought of him whipping her pussy made her even wetter.
“How?”
“He told me to bend over and grab my ankles.

“Isn’t it a universal truth that it’s our singular experiences and passion, for whatever thing or things, which molds us all into the individuals we become? Whether it's hidden in the depths of our soul or exposed for all to see?”

Linzi Basset is a South African born animal rights supporter with a poet’s heart, and she is also a bestselling fiction writer of suspense filled romance erotica books; who as the latter, refuses to be bound to any one sub-genre. She prefers instead to stretch herself as a storyteller which has resulted in her researching and writing historical and even paranormal themed works.

Her initial offering: Club Alpha Cove, a BDSM club suspense series released back in 2015, reached Amazon’s Bestseller list, and she has been on those lists ever since. Labeling her as prolific is a gross understatement as just a few short years later she has now been published over a hundred times.

“I write from the inside out. My stories are both inside me and a part of me so it can be either pleasurable to release them or painful to carve them out. I live every moment of every story I write. So, if you're looking for spicy and suspenseful, I'm your girl... woman... writer... you know what I mean!"

Linzi believes that by telling stories in her own voice, she can better share with her readers the essence of her being: her passionate nature; her motivations; and her wildest fantasies. She feels every touch as she writes, every kiss, every harsh word uttered, and this to her is the key to a never-ending love of writing.

Ultimately, all books by Linzi Basset are about passion. To her, passion is the driving force of all emotion; whether it be lust, desire, hate, trust, or love. This is the underlying message contained in her books.

Her advice: “Believe in the passions driving your desires; live them; enjoy them; and allow them to bring you happiness.”

Maybe I am catching the author at the beginning of a series and should cut some slack, but in general there are big gaping problems with the foundation of this story that glared back at me. The story weaves a tale of a woman who has denied herself relationships and love after her partner is murdered brutally by the Syndicate (the bad guys). She has pushed her two best friends away and keeps her relationship with her sister a secret so they can't connect back to her. She's broken, volatile and in need of a wake up call. Courtney Sears is undercover and about to meet her match.

Ruark Greer takes one look at Courtney and in a matter of moments decides she is the sub and woman he wants for the rest of his life. Courtney has entered the training program at Ruark's BDSM club with her "boyfriend" in the hopes of keeping him at arms length until they can finish the investigation. Ruark also has his own demons he has beaten, but he decides that he is taking over her training without regard to her boyfriend....for now he doesn't know she is undercover or that her sister is about to marry his cousin.

And that is where it starts to fall apart for me. First her bosses are Senior Doms at Club Alpha Cove, an exclusive BDSM club on a island that Ruark owns. They aren't the greatest bosses, but they decide to with hold Courtney's identity even though they are close to Ruark. They already have Courtney pegged as what Ruark needs and they seem to pull the Dom cards when it suits them, even in a work setting.

Next, the POV switches on a dime. I mean at one point it felt like I was ping ponging between Courtney, Ruark, Sloan, Hagan, Quin, and even the boyfriend. And I haven't even introduced most of these characters to you (Sloan and Hagan are Courtney's direct bosses and Quin is the trainee coordinator). Most books only switch POV once in a chapter and it is a big no-no to do it without some break indicating the switch. Nope, this just goes from one POV to another and you are left wondering which personality of yours decided to switch it up? Oh, wait you don't have multiple personalities.

The author does warn us that the BDSM in the book is from her imagination and that things don't move this fast or even in such ways, but she is taking the liberty of writing her own world. I am fine with that, especially since she gave the warning.

What I did have a problem with was the lack of defining what the internal conflict and external conflict were pointing towards. It felt like an ADHD mind going at times with the big bad Alpha constantly punishing his sub, but not really allowing her to have a mind of her own even though he doesn't want a slave. In no situation could I find a way he would be happy with the job she holds and damn it felt like would pull the plug if he wanted on that job. He doesn't, but he also is willing to punish her for her actions.

Now her actions are bad and someone needed to get through to her, but I don't feel Ruack was really trying. He wanted the words, the story, the pain, but he wasn't exactly making it like she could talk to him. When she does, it felt like he just swept it away. She does stupid things, he punishes her for it. Over and over again. This world is a little warped, but to each their own. If someone punished me with the threat of sucking cocks, being pussy whipped so hard it makes (this heroine) cum, or allowing others to take part in the punishment, yeah, I would be so outta there. Instead, she is dramatically coming with the pain, dramatically crying she loves him and can't live without him and dramatically becoming someone very different than I expected.

A story should ebb and flow around the characters. You should see the sweet times and the bad times, but when it feels like every scene is a punishment, it gets old fast. When something that should be soul sharing and emotional is used as a punishment without the emotion and soul sharing, it loses it's value and I just lost my trust in Ruark as a Dom. It began to feel like he was a bully and she was brainlessly falling under his spell.

I wouldn't quite call this abuse as he does ask about her safeword a lot. She just never once use it. She uses yellow I think once during a punishment, but it all fell flat. I know  you don't wan a sub to safeword out on a punishment because they don't want said punishment, but when someone is painfully whipping you in sensitive spots, damn, the safeword is there to protect them both.

The overall arc of the story also started off in the first couple of chapters of the undercover mission. Short weeks later the bad guys are on trial and once again the end of the trial falls into oblivion. Then there is a wrapped up climax of this part of the story and swept away. In no way did I feel any tension, gut wrenching suspense or true fear anything bad would happen. It flowed very weakly and wasn't much of a blip in my radar. Courtney is supposed to be a bad assed woman, but the author spun her being an irresponsible bad assed woman.

I was really looking forward to this as it was a recommended story from a group of a well respected BDSM author. It kind of shocked me it was recommended because the writing was not on the same level as the author whose group it was recommended. So with each recommendation, take it with a grain of salt. This felt less like a story and more like a fantasy. Sorry, I wanted a love story. A story where each was respected. Where each genuinely loved each other and respected each other for both who they are and what they want to do with their lives. It just didn't fit that slot I wanted for it. It had potential, it just didn't reach what I needed.

Just no.

I wanted to like this book, the premise sounded great. A strong, badass woman at work that goes undercover at a club as a sub only to find that being a sub works for her. Instead, this book is a total mess. The plot is over the top ridiculous, she goes from being a competent badass to being shamed for her abilities and skills, and the punishment given is so over the top, especially for a brand new sub in training it’s hard to fathom she wouldn’t have run screaming. Consent and safety are completely ignored, repeatedly. She is forced into humiliating scenes with her bosses without her consent, which is completely unfair to take things outside the club. And is told not to safeword by the training dom, who of all people should be encouraging her to use it when needed. The one time she says “yellow” she gets shamed and forced into continuing. The whole thing is too over the top, too immature, and too unbelievable.

Abusive

The female main character was doing her job as an FBI agent and was punished for it more than once. Disgusting representation of BDSM and incredibly sexist - no thanks. The men who worked with her started treating her differently once they realised she may be submissive - HELL NO! She was also discouraged from using her safeword - in consensual BDSM that is an absolute NO for me. Her punishments were way over the top for a novice sub - frankly some of it made me feel sick. I am in the lifestyle myself and I recommend this author to do some fucking research before writing another book like this! This story was completely unrealistic and I have zero intent to read anything else by this author. There are far better authors in the genre out there. I struggle to see how ANYONE could give this 4/5 stars - its not even particularly well written!

3*** for the content of the Scenes. For the Possibility of a good Love story.
2** because having a story where all the Scenes are about Punishment just doesn't cut it for me.

Ok so i'm done, i actually enjoyed the story very much. Loved the scenes even. i don't like that most of them were all about Punishments. You take a Vanilla woman & throw her into a complex D/s relationship with the "God of BDSM", (in the book anyway) & proceed to put unrealistic expectations on her. It'd be one thing if she weren't so NEW!! Especially an FBI Agent who is so kickass in her job! She can barely Breathe without doing something Wrong!! He practically sets her up & now has to be punished in front of everyone/including the holy Senior Masters. Ugh!! He continually tells her she "needs" to take the whole punishment, wouldn't be right if she were to Safe Word, or the holy Seniors might think she needs more punishment. From zero to full on 24/7 D/s??? WTF??? It's not realistic. i don't want girls out there doing shit that's UNSAFE!!

i'm going to read a few other books & come back. See how i feel. 07/21

Back. Read a few fluffy Menage's (LOL) & i'm back to try the next one. Am willing to see if this theme is a norm (near to Non-Con pretending to be loving), i'm really hoping it's not. This could be a really fun Series! i'm a fan of Club Series with really Alpha Doms. This just doesn't seem to be fitting that description. Too bad!

i don't like to give a negative review. i'm sorry i couldn't find good.

Needs a good editing and the use of contractions. The sex is hot but the punishments are over the top harsh.

Was not able to enjoy the book (despite the great scenes) because the punishments seemed too hard and often I didn't git the reasons for them. Sorry about that

If I could give this one negative stars I would. I really didn't like this book at all. I had read this story before through KU. So when I am commenting, I am going from what I remember plus what I read this time. It sounded familiar, but I honestly didn't recognize it from the blurb. Once I started reading it, I recognized it. I am always careful when reading this type of story because I have triggers. So I read the blurb. I read the look inside with the author's warning. I read reviews. I did not completely re-read this book. I cringed through the little bit of it I could get through. I don't think my face cooled down or my shoulders fell from my ears until I quit reading, and it wasn't in a good way either.I am getting mad again just writing this review. It felt like the poor girl was punished for everything she did. Not discipl
ined. Punished. No pleasure, just pain. I don't want to read that! Ok, so she got off on some pain. But, it felt like her limits were just run over and demolished. I felt she was forced to let him collar her when she obviously didn't want it. He forced her. He could have waited. Worked with her on why she didn't want a relationship. But he forced the issue. He made her move in with him. He wouldn't take no for an answer. Yeah, yeah, I know. She could have said no or safe worded out, but the author didn't write it that way. Why the author thought that that would make a good book is beyond me.I skipped ahead, and the next scene I stopped on was anoth

Not impressed

There are so many, many things wrong with this book. Starting with formatting, there are no breaks in the chapters that indicate the passage of time. One sentence ends and is immediately followed by an event days later. The story is told from everyone's POV at the same time, again with no distinction, you bounce from one person's thought to the next person, sentence to sentence. Often in the same paragraph. Honestly the whole book needs to be re-editted: spelling errors, incorrect pronouns and improper word usage.

The plot was ok, with the occasional break from reality. Apparently the heroine has super powers when it comes to fighting and can tap in to something that sounds Jedi-like. There is nothing else even remotely suggesting a sci-fi theme, only her fighting. It's annoyingly incongruous.

Character development is abysmal. Neither of the main characters are very likable, and the heroine seems like she suffers from multiple personalities. The hero is a pushy ass. I'm also pretty sure the author has no real knowledge of how BDSM relationships work. Courtney is constantly bouncing back and forth between love and hate, and again there is no development. She just suddenly loves Ruark. He's no better. He uses sex and lust as a weapon. She's scared of being in relationships so he ties her down and turns her on and denies her until she agrees publicly to be his. There are so many secrets between the 2 and even though he spouts that Ds relationships are built on honesty and trust he does nothing to foster these in the actual relationship. I think one of my biggest issues is with them declaring Ruark king of BDSM on a global stage. As if there is anything remotely that organized.

If you have even a little knowledge of BDSM, this book will only irritate you. If you like pushy men that hide behind BDSM, go for it.

Who is this guy?

I couldn't care less that he and his macho buddies believe his sub needs to be punished because he had been disrespected , this work both ways . This discipline borders on abuse in two cases and bothered me , she never even considered using her safe word????? He believed she could???? Uhh some of these scenes go a bit too far. Other than this it was a good story with great characters.

Good premise. DNF

Good premise to a story but I couldn’t finish this book. The story was hard to follow because it was everywhere. A better editor would make me try again.

Ruark Greer, My Liege or King of BDSM, has been without a sub for years. When he plays, it's only at his club. But, the minute he sets eyes on Courtney, that all changes. He wants her and he wants her now! What he doesn't realize is that she is deep undercover as an FBI agent trying to infiltrate The Syndicate. Things go sideways on her mission but the bad guys are arrested. In the meantime she becomes a trainee submissive with Ruark as her Dom. It's not smooth sailing, as her sassy mouth fails to remain under control. She spends more time being punished than not. Having lost several people in her life, Courtney becomes reckless while on the job failing to adhere to protocol. The decision to take her out of the field is made and she is it forced to remain home while Ruark and his highly trained brothers go In search of the men who want to take Courtney's life. Courtney takes matters into her own hands and while she is not hurt she must be punished for once again failing to obey her Master. She and Ruark eventually gets their happily ever after,

I won this book in a facebook competition, and I must say I have already started book 2,I love Courtney and am so jealous that she caught the eye of My Liege right from when she walked into his club. She is sassy and her mouth and attitude get her in to trouble quite a few times, yes I thought the punishments were harsh, but loved them, and remembering she is part masochist helped with this, but these are 2 people who need each other and can relate to each other eventually (when she behaves lol). As I said I am on book 2 and have the whole set sat waiting for me, as once I am hooked on a series I hate waiting. Linzi Basset was a new author for me, but I can assure you I will be getting to know her a lot better through her books. I highly recommend this if you love Alpha males with slight a**hole tendencies, but lovable anyway, and fiesty women who cannot keep their mouth or attitude in check, regardless of the consequences.

What a punch!

This book had intrigue, it had hot alpha males, it had a badass woman and BDSM all wrapped into one. I loved it. I felt that the relationship between Ruark and Courtney was instant attraction. Their connection was deep and built throughout the story. Courtney is an FBI agent with a death wish. She rushes into dangerous situations and meets Ruark while under deep cover trying to take down the syndicate. Ruark is the ultimate...he is 'My Liege'. He demands respect and all that comes with it. Ruark and Courtney's "relationship" is a precarious one. They find their balance and it is simply beautiful. I am glad I found this series! I am looking forward to more by this author!!

An entertaining read!!

This was my first read by this author, and now I’m hooked! The story of Ruark, a Dom who pretty much runs the BDSM world, and Courtney, a feisty woman who comes into her own as a Sub. She is hesitant to be in any relationship because of her past, but can Ruark break down her walls? He knows she is the one for him, but she has had so much happen to her in the past, he isn’t sure how it will all work. I loved the chemistry between these two characters! Sizzling! And Courtney is such a strong woman, you can’t help but love her. And not to mention how hot this author describes Ruark! I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author!

Their connection was so rushed basically decided they wanted to be married in a week or so of barely interacting. A lot of sex, probably 95% of the book with 90% of it just being her being punished. It got boring and just weird after a while and he took some things to the extreme - like just let her swear stfu about her cursing.why did he go on about it like 30 times in one book. he even pointed out that all she was doing was getting punished. it was just sooo much. she got punished BY EVERYONE whenever she opened her mouth. also didn’t understand why he got so extremely mad when she was doing her job. Also hated that she kicks him when she’s mad at him. That was really disgusting too.

I find it difficult to give this one a star rating. It was extremely heavy on the bdsm, sex, and punishments. I found it difficult to come at it from a fictional viewpoint. It's so different from any other bdsm book I've read. I found myself saying frequently "This wouldn't happen in a real-life situation" and then realizing it was a work of fiction. In the end I finished the book because it was fully of steamy scenes and I wanted to find out what happened with the characters. I did feel the non-bdsm related scenes were a bit weak.

Good

This was really hot! I liked that there was a story and we got to know the characters. Funny how Courtney tested Ruark. He was very strict Dom but it was awesome how they loved each other

My only complaint was that the BDSM entered into her work. After pointing out that her job was free of BDSMcontrol, but the fact that Sloan and Hagan initiated control of her at work made me scratch my head. Then Ruark took over the office with her. It kinda disappointed me.

Other than that, I can't wait to continue the series

The first book of this series. This book is on heavy on the BDSM so that might not be everybody;s cup of tea. It can be harsh at times, it is definitly not your standard BDSM club series.

I enjoyed how Courtney kicked ass. She was strond but very vunarable at the same time. Loved her interactions with the other characters.

Ruark was not my favorite character, he was a bit to full of himself attimes.

Lots of actions and steamy scenes.

Terrific BDSM club story

This story is set mainly in a BDSM Club and it has a lot of action as well as the main female character is an FBI agent and she is very good. She is undercover and part of cover means that she has to join a BDSM Club. When she does she gets involved with the club's owner. There is a lot of spanking etc. in the story and it gets quite steamy as well. At the end there is a very nice HEA.

This was HOT! I was worried at first as this was on the lengthy side for romance novels and then because of sadism/masochism but this book was on fire. Highly erotic and the heroine was one KICK ass chick. There were some high emotions and importance of overcoming the past as well. Such a great book.

This so damn good

This book had everything you would want. One was friends and family, Two was the action. The third was the love that the Dom have for their sub. But the main characters in this book was made for each other because they had what they needed and wanted in each other. Great book

Amazing portrayal of bdsm

Linzi Basset did an amazing job with the portrayal of Ruark and Courtney's bdsm dynamic and the trust and love Courtney needed to get past her fear of losing those she loves. I just started reading this series and I can't wait to read the next one.

One of the best BDSM stories out there.

A story of a strong woman who has found her perfect dominant and a strong man brought to his knees by his perfect sub. A strong love story that grips you from the very start.
