Former TSP Homicide detective Melody Beck had spent her life standing between the evil in the world and her younger sisters. When one of those sisters is attacked and nearly killed Mel would do whatever it took to find the answers they sought. Even if those answers led straight back to the wealthiest family in Texas. To a man some said was responsible for the worst slaughter in Finley Creek history.
And the one man she’d tried for eighteen months to forget…
The world said he was the son of a killer…
But Houghton Barratt knew his father was innocent. It had to be a setup, and he was going to prove that. The only hope he had of finding his father before the TSP—and protecting everything he had worked toward for decades—lay with a former homicide detective with a serious chip on her shoulder.
The woman he had never forgotten.
But as Houghton schemes and manipulates to get Mel back in his arms where she belongs, the real mastermind responsible for the Marshall Murders is getting closer.
Only this time he’s focused on the sisters she’d do anything to keep safe, and the woman Houghton had vowed to protect…
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
I hate giving bad reviews, especially on a book from an Author who's work I have enjoyed previously.... however I do it mostly as a reminder to myself, and partly for people like me who are adversely affected by some story lines. I hate abductions stories, there are very very few times that the person committing this act can justify it enough for me to ever accept or even condone it, the very nature of the act of kidnapping someone is taking away their deepest and most vital right, the right to choose where I go and what I do, if you follow that with inducing terror, panic and threats, be it verbally or even just alluded to, it is outright torture. Any person male of female that accepts that and comes to accept and desire their captor after that is physiologically damaged, and there are names for that ... it's not love, can never be love, any human man or woman can not truly love someone who has so little care or respect for their rights or their minds. And to make it worse, the person responsible for that kind of act is nothing short of a bully, he or she may justify it any way they like, but physiological abuse, is still abuse, and for whatever twisted justification an Author can think of for that kind of "romance" it's forcing one will onto another when one of them is helpless and afraid, and no amount of justification, apology and self flagellation can make that forgivable.
I read romance stories because I believe in eternal love, have loved and been loved by my husband for 40 years, and it was love at first sight. At no time would he ever have done anything like that, and we have had our problems over the years. I'm old enough to know that marriage is not alway about equality, but it is a partnership. And love can not survive without respect, on both sides.
This is the 3rd book in this trilogy. This is Melody's and Houghton Barratt story. It is full of suspense and intrigue. There is passion. Really the wrap up of this trilogy was so good. Answered all questions of what the heck was going on. I really do not think this family could take many more gun shot wounds, knives and whatever else they had in store for this family. So much jealousy and wanting what wasn't theirs . So many secrets come out and why things happened the way they did. Highly recommend.
The third book in this series recaps the first two books but in Melody's point of view, some of it was like reading it over again. It amazes me how these sisters keep getting beat up and shot that their still alive! I also think the character of the father Kevin, is weak, it's like his daughters walk all over him. I know it's only fiction but really? I will read a few more because I do like the boy friends of the sister's and Jillian's character is developing. Want to see what happens to her.
The main focus will be on Melody and the Barratt son in this book. We will reread quite a few things that already occurred in the previous books, but loaded with more information about the others. As they get closer to figuring out who was involved in all the murders, more secrets will appear, more questions will arise, and more plots to foil will appear. Who are the two final men in the Marshall murders? What is it that they were after all those years ago so desperately? When you discover the answers, it will shock you to no end~ Will this be the end to everything, or just the beginning?
The books in Brookes' interconnected series keep getting g better and better the longer you read. This read is my favorite in the series thus far. Calle has created a fantastic world with characters that recur and crossover not only books but series to series. The suspense and the intricate plot in this installment of the series plus the passionate relationship make this a novel that will keep you reading hours into the night barely able to put it down. I highly recommend!
Another intense thriller as the search for the remaining unidentified threats from major players come to light. The remaining two killers are shot and finally captured. All the hidden secrets are brought to the surface. A hidden disc is discovered setting the tone for future adventures in this series
This one keeps you on the edge of your seat. The bad guys are dropping like flies because they are turning on each other. But all the Back girls, Gabby, the Marshall brothers and a few others have a few things to get organized to make sure all the people who killed Elliott and Chances family get caught. Loved it.
This was a great series! I really enjoyed the characters being in all three books. All of the questions were answered (well, almost everything) - sorry no spoilers here!! I have already started the next series. Calle J. Brookes can really get you involved in her books!!
One of my biggest pet peeves when reading different points of view in a book is reading the same scenes more than once. While not all scenes are repeated the first half of this book and the second book could have been cut. Because of this, I found myself skimming this one just to find out who was pulling the strings, otherwise it was a slow read.
I enjoyed reading Houghton and Melody’s story and getting justice for the murder of the Marshall family. Finally all five of the killers were identified and taken out. Great conclusion.
Great conclusion to the Finley Creek Trilogy:) Happy that all three lovely ladies got their happily ever afters even if some of them were unconventionally done, like Mel. But overall great suspense, action and romance:) Look forward to the next trilogy!!
So many twist and turns. So many people hurt ,emotionally, physically, mentally and for what something that happened so long ago. A must read. A great, well written book
This is the third book in this series and probably the best as it solves the murders presented in the first 2 books. The series continues to address a further corruption issue in local law enforcement that led to the original murders. I probably will not continue to read further at this point.
Not a bad book and a good ending to the trilogy, but it still left questions that I think should be answered and that hopefully do get answered in the next trilogy of Finley Creek.
Calle J Brooks writes so many interesting stories. Thrilling and suspenseful. You can hardly put them down and Finley Creek series are one of the best.
A Absolutely love this story . It is intriguing and suspenseful and action packed , from the beginning till the very end . The characters are unique and fantastic . This is definitely a five star read . I couldn't put it down. It's super intense and thrilling story . I highly recommend reading .
Continues on with the series. I like books that the characters continue on in the next book. You feel like you can really get to know the town and the Family. The mystery of who killed the wholeMarshall family except the oldest boys was solved, can't wait to read the next book in this series.
While not the strongest novel of the three in the Finley Creek TSP trilogy, "The Price of Silence," definitely brought closure to all the unanswered questions, an end to the Marshall murders, and some peace of mind to all the characters.
The author took a strong storyline in book one and carried it through all three novels, leading to a strong ending and answers to all thee plotlines, major and minor.
This was another fast paced novel, for the most part. While some of the realism that existed in the other novels was missing on and off with this novel, it was still an enjoyable and engaging read.
A highly recommended novel and trilogy for any reader of suspense or romantic suspense novels.
As I read the first fourth it was nothing new to be learned. The next fourth had a lot of repeated information. It was only in the last half we learned anything new. They also solved the mysteries from the first 2 books. Not as good as I hoped.
