A Sip of Rio is like a tropical vacation: SWEET, low angst, and sexy.

I really enjoyed this strangers-to-friends-to-lovers story about Liam, who catches his boyfriend cheating after booking a once-in-a-lifetime couple's holiday to Rio de Janeiro, and Blaine, a DJ who fortuitously has the same name as Liam's cheating ex.

Blaine is bisexual and has finally signed his divorce papers. He's not looking for love, but he can't help but fall for Liam, freckles, curly hair, and all.

Liam is more cautious; he's been burned once too many times and even though he enjoys being with Blaine (and the chemistry between them is scorching), he doesn't want his heart stomped on again.

I loved the interactions between the men. They begin hanging out before the trip, so the falling in love isn't instant.

Blaine doesn't tell Liam he's bi until they're in Rio, but I understood why. He doesn't want Liam to feel pressured into a "romantic" vacation.

Once in Rio, the guys dance, enjoy the sand and sea, and even participate in an 80s run for charity. The moments of possessiveness were pretty damn hot.

Oh, and Diego the bartender was totes adorable! I would SO read his story.

The HEA could have been stronger (an epilogue, please!), and I wish the grand gesture had been made by Liam instead of Blaine, since it's Liam who pushes Blaine away, but those are small niggles.

I'm a fan of this author, and this book is a FUN, light read.

Promising at first. Very predictable though. And then the ending was ruined when the "wronged" MC wound up doing the groveling instead of the one who done wrong. Ugh. Absolute deal breaker for me if I had any hopes of enjoying the book. It was a solid, enjoyable, 3 stars before that. Because of that shit show of an ending, it gets bumped down.

All in all, this was a pleasant read, but there were some things that took a lot of my enjoyment out. Like:

~The grand gesture in the end was amazing but .

~The ending felt abrupt.

~I felt that Blaine's evasiveness to reveal his sexuality in the first 20% was manufactured. They had become such good friends, and there were a lot of opportunities. What stopped him?

~Hayden, Blaine's friend. Although he was mentioned a handful of times, he rubbed me the wrong way, especially in the beginning.

On the other hand, I think that the author did justice to the setting. There is a very strong sense of place, and Rio's people and magic atmosphere are very vividly depicted.

I loved the way (and the reason/excuse) these two met, and the friendship they formed at first. It felt realistic and natural. The steam was great too.

Overall, it was a nice, sweet romance that could have worked a lot better for me, if it weren't for these few things mentioned above.

This was super cute and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I love how real Rio felt to me. I was frustrated with our little Liam, but affectionately so.
Looking forward to more...maybe we can get a little update on them while reading about Hayden...please, please, please
Perfect low-angst, sweet read.

This is a very hard book to rate. There were parts I absolutely loved and other parts I disliked.

EXPECT SOME SPOILERS

What I liked:
- The guys. Liam and Blaine were sweet and I thought they were really cute together.
- The sexy times. The sex scenes were hot!
- Rio. I loved reading about Rio and I could almost imagine me being there. This had a very nice holiday feeling.

What I liked less:
- The insta-friendship at the beginning. I liked how these guys met, but after that the start of the friendship was off page. So when they went on holiday and they were already friends, I didn’t buy it. I just wanted a couple more pages in between, where I was there to witness the friendship developing. This felt rushed.
- I have no idea what Liam’s deal was when he turned Blaine down at the end of their holiday. He said he was afraid to get hurt in the beginning, but I never once read that from him when he turned Blaine down near the end. I just didn’t get where he was coming from (and I’m so fed up with the break-up near the end in. Every. Single. Book. I. Read).
- A travel blog? Really? I get that it could happen, but this was WAY too sudden. If someone sprang this on me, I would not have been happy. Why couldn’t they start a real relationship in London first before Blaine decides this is the way to go?
- The dog. Seriously, Blaine gets Liam a dog while they are supposed to earn a living traveling the world? Poor dog.

Overall, this was a nice book with a great holiday feel.

description

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

If you are looking for light, sweet and very low on the angst then A Sip of Rio will hit just that spot.

This is a friends to lover’s story with a twist – friendship happens quickly but when these men agree to go on holiday together they are strangers brought together by a name.

Liam has kicked his cheating ex to the curb but it has left him with the problem of having no one to go on his planned trip of lifetime to Rio de Janeiro. I liked Liam – he had had very little luck when it came to love and he had wrapped his heart up tight determined not to be so quick to give it away again. He was adorable when in Rio – a real dream come true for him and the obvious knowledge the author had of the place was clearly visible in her writing.

Blaine has just signed his divorce papers and although his marriage has been over for a while it still stings. He’s a DJ at a local radio station and when they run a mystery competition looking for a man with a certain name it seems as though fate has stepped in with the ideal distraction – a two week paid for distraction with a man that is very easy on the eyes.

This pair are fun together, they are hot together and ultimately they are confused and scared together. Can you trust a holiday romance when your heart has taken so many hits before?

This is a great romance book. The only problem I have with it, is that the author kind of skipped the part, where the MC's became friends at the beginning, but that didn't take away form the experience.

I tried read the book, like I was there, in Rio, tried to see it in my mind's eye, tried to feel it. Rio must be beautiful, and to experience with someone you love, that would be exceptional.
I enjoyed it! :) *waiting for summer to come* *sigh*

My favorite part was the imagery of Rio. A trip to Rio is now on my bucket list (and after the Olympics, that's a feat itself). The story was okay. Liam was a bit of a pain in the ass, I couldn't really enjoy him. Blaine was a sweetheart, but I couldn't really grasp why he wanted to deal with Liam. Because of this, I didn't feel the relationship.

The author isn't a fan of Americans. That was loud and clear.

Meh. It was fine. 2.5 stars.

Darum geht's:

4 Stars!

Both Liam and Blaine have recently gotten out of longterm relationships. But Liam booked a couples' trip that's non-refundable, but also has a clause that he cannot substitute another person or go alone, so now he has to find a Jonathan Reed to agree to go on a romantic trip to Rio with him. When he resorts to telling his story on the radio, Blaine, whose real name happens to be Jonathan Reed, hears it and volunteers to go with Liam. Liam and Blaine hit it off right away, but what happens when the feelings get muddled, and is it real or just the romance of Rio?

Awww, this was a sweet and sexy read. I absolutely loved Blaine and Liam, until I wanted to strangle Liam, but for the most part I loved them both. The chemistry and sexual attraction was off the charts and the sex was smoking hot!!

I loved seeing Rio through Blaine and Liam's eyes, the author's descriptions are so vivid, I felt like I took the vacation right along with Liam and Blaine, minus the sunburn, and thank god for that because owie!!

This was a great story, well-written and paced well with some fun-filled vacation days! I absolutely loved it and can't recommend it enough! It'd be a great beach read!! Highly recommended!!

**** 4 Rio de Janeiro stars ****

----------------------------------
I promised you a sunset over Rio de Janeiro," Liam said. (...) "Here it is."
----------------------------------

Liam and Blaine were characters I really enjoyed. I liked the reason for why they met up, and went on the trip to Rio together. I liked Blaine's easygoing nature, and quick smile. Liam was a sweetheart, adorable with his curls.

I loved how Rio de Janeiro was like a secondary, or almost main "character" of the book. The descriptions and feel of this big city made me want to go there myself. It's clear the author loves this city, and it shines through to the reader!

I loved Blaine and Liam in Rio. Their sightseeing and activities. It really made me feel the city. I loved their blossoming romance. They were so good together. The kissing scene, and sex scenes were awesome. The author knows how to write a great sex scene!

+++++++++++ slight spoilers ahead ++++++++++++++++

I have a niggle with Blaine not telling Liam about his bisexuality. I get that Blaine didn't want to put pressure on Liam to have a romantic holiday when they didn't know each other that well. What I didn't like was that I felt Blaine didn't tell Liam, at the same time as he relentlessly flirted with Liam, and constantly calling him "babe". I felt it was a confusion for Liam, that I didn't like. The story is so warm, happy and feel-good, the slight angst/issue this caused was unnecessary, and put me off.

I didn't like Liam's reaction to Blaine when he told him his feelings, how he shut him down after the wonderful time the had together. I liked the idea Blaine came up with, but I don't understand why it had to be the travel blog or no relationship at all. Why couldn't they have continued their relationship when they got back instead and see how things went from there? They met several times before they went, so I don't understand why they couldn't have just talked about dating and taken the idea of the travel blog from there. I get why Liam balked at the idea, it's a huge decision.

The grand gesture was totally swoon worthy!

The meaning of the balloon was totally fitting! It didn't bother me that it was Blaine who wooed Liam, after all Liam reached out first, didn't he? However, Blaine wooed Liam with shoving him he was serious about the travel blog. I don't get why the travel blog had to be entwined with their HEA. Also, the puppy? How can you with good conscience surprise someone with getting a dog, when their plans are to travel all over the world for their blog being their job? Poor doggie. :-/

Ignoring my niggles, though, this was a wonderful read. The writing was great! And Rio was even greater! I loved this warm breath of summer reading this story in cold October.
Recommended!

Liam Young booked his dream romantic vacation for him and his boyfriend to Rio de Janeiro, only to later break up with his cheating boyfriend. But it turns out his dream vacation has to be used by the actual names the vacation was reserved for. In a stroke of genius, Liam goes to a local radio station seeking anyone with the name of his ex-boyfriend, offering a free vacation with him. By a stroke of luck, radio DJ Blaine hears his plea and is excited because he has the same name. Liam and Blaine spend the time before the vacation getting to know each other and becoming friends. They are both attracted to each other, but Liam doesn't think anything can come from it because he thinks Blaine is straight. While on vacation, he finds out that Blaine is bisexual and just as attracted to him. Liam agrees to a holiday romance but only that and Blaine agrees, with no intentions of giving him up.

I felt like I was on vacation in Rio reading this book! The descriptions were amazing and so much information was provided. I really liked Liam and Blaine. They had great chemistry and steamed up the pages! The majority of this book was set in the vacation so you got to explore Rio along with the characters. There was a great backstory of why this was Liam's dream vacation and both characters had great depth.

Liam and Blaine's story was insta-friendship, followed by insta-love but it was believable. I thought the radio plea angle was genius! I enjoyed both of these characters and thought it would be great to see this become a series that follows their travels, much like a travel blog. The author certainly can make us feel like we're vacationing with them!

A Joyfully Jay review.

5 stars

At a time when my own life is full of drama, A Sip of Rio provided me with the perfect escapism. This is very much a feel-good story that is low on angst, but has just enough sweetness and romance to give the reader that comfortable ‘awww’ feeling. Blaine and Liam are not deep characters, but it is the fact that they are genuine and ordinary that makes them both so lovable and relatable. The issue between them arises when neither man wants to admit his true feelings, but this means that Teodora Kostova is able to craete just the right amount of anticipation for us to become obsessed with Blaine and Liam’s story.
Although Kostova chooses not to make a huge issue of Blaine’s bisexuality, she does address it, particularly with reference to the fact that he was married, but his wife mistrusted him around other men. As A Sip of Rio is a m/m romance and the story’s focus is on Blaine’s relationship with Liam, I do not think it was necessary for Kostova to explore this matter any further.
A Sip of Rio may be sweet, but damn, Blaine and Liam are hot together! Kostova ensures that the passion between the two men is palpable and at one point I thought fireworks were going to start shooting out of my kindle! I really like the fact that their relationship is more than this though, and loved the quiet moments they share that also reveal much about their closeness.

4.5 Rio Loving Stars!

Damn. Teo has a real winner with this one. As my seventh book by her, I have to say this one may be my favorite. And with zero angst, a perfect vacation setting, hot sex and two adorably likable men, it is sure to be one that gets reread over and over again.

The feel of Rio De Janeiro is captured unbelievably well to the point you can feel your toes in the water and the air in your lungs. And if you think you won't be wanting this destination on your bucket list, then think again.

I Beta Read this one for my dear friend and writer, Teodora, and what I love about Beta Reading for her is that she listens. She accepts the comments and suggestions with such grace that it makes the entire experience all the better. The point it is help make the book even better and I am honored to be given that opportunity. And if it is only to make one page better it is so worth it for me.

I will eagerly reread this one again and feel certain I will love it more and more with each return trip.

So be prepared and pack your bags for a trip inside A Sip of Rio...Out October 6, 2016!

Thanks also to my fellow BRers...Marco, Nathan and Teri.

Liam needs to find someone that has his cheating boyfriend's name so he can take his place on the all-expenses paid vacation in Rio, he'd bought before it all went to hell.

Recently divorced Blaine needs a change in scenery and what better than a trip to Rio? When he listens to Liam's advertisement at the radio station he works at and realizes he shares Liam's ex's name, he thinks it must be fate.

Blaine and Liam strike up an easy friendship right from the start, with a healthy dose of secret lust on the side since Liam thinks Blaine is straight. Once they're in Rio, though, neither of them can hide the attraction they feel for the other and fall into bed together. The longer they know each other, the closer they get, but is this just a holiday affair or is it more?

I loved Blaine! He was such an amazing character, easygoing and sweet. I liked Liam, too, for the most part. Actually, until the last portion of the book, I was loving him almost as much as Blaine, they just were too sweet together, then he did something that made me want to strangle him. (Don't mind me, I can get a bit... ahem, passionate about certain things.) Still, they had an electrifying chemistry and I loved how well they fit with each other. Their friendship was just so perfect, and I just loved the progression into more. Yes, it was fast, but it felt right for them considering the circumstances.

The descriptions of their vacation in Rio were awesome, so detailed and with such vivid imagery that I felt as if I were there right along with Blaine and Liam!

All in all, a fantastic book! Teodora Kostova is a master at writing hotter than hot love scenes that just leave you wanting more and giving us fantastic characters that we can care for, all wrapped up in a wonderful storyline and this is not an exception to that, so you can't go wrong with A Sip of Rio! Very recommendable!

Rating: 4.5. Stars!!!

This story is told in third person and from both of the main characters’ point-of-view. Being my preferred style of narration that was a win right off the bat.

Liam is a wonderful character, somewhat flighty, and also a little unsure of himself and insecure. My one irk with his character was the way he ranted about not getting a promotion he applied for, because the slag in the tight-skirt got it. (his words) To me, a gay man should be more sensitive to being labelled and/or judged on appearance.

Blaine is a recently divorced bisexual man, separated for three years, so he is well and truly over his ex-wife who never understood his sexual orientation. As a radio DJ, when he hears Liam’s advertisement for a travel companion, he’s able to get his number pronto and have the ad taken down before anyone else can respond to Liam’s advert.

Their trip to Rio is an absolute delight. The author did a fantastic job of bringing the region to life: Favela tour, jellyfish, vespa rides.

The chemistry between the men is palpable, even though it takes Liam a while to figure out Blaine is bisexual. Unfortunately, not all is smooth sailing. But thankfully both these men have friends who can see what they can’t.

This is a feel good story, relatively low on angst, with two characters who fit each other perfectly, no pun intended. Oh wait, maybe it was a pun. There was some hot loving.

There were a few typos here and there, but nothing to detract from the story. I’m giving this story a rating of 4 hearts, as it warmed mine.

Copy generously provided by the author, a favorable review was not promised in return.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

4.5* sexy and shiny stars

Ms Kostova has a writing style which works for me, and the imagination to create a world in which you can readily believe. It was really interesting at the end to read the author's notes, and understand some of the background too. I have to say it is a testament to her, that I read these notes, as I really didn't want the story to be over. In fact I would like to put in a plea that we meet these two again - maybe as extras in another couple's story? Please?

My advice is get a copy and read it for yourself - you can get the idea of the story from the blurb, and I can reassure you that it works, it is funny, hot, super sexy and a really satisfying read.

Thank you Ms Kostova for bringing some much needed sunshine to this grey November day.

What a fun light read. I needed this, low on angst, but high on sexy. This book took me back to my homeland and made me feel all of the romance and excitement that I associate with Brasil not the doom and gloom that gets reported usually on tv. really enjoyed this book. Liam and Blaine are great and I enjoyed the concept, strangers, to friends, to lovers. Liam has just been burned by his ex and now needs a guy with his ex's name to go on this once in a lifetime trip to Rio or he loses it. Taking a chance he calls a radio show and makes the announcement, enter Blaine who's full name matches the name Liam is looking for. The two strangers instantly click and become fast friends and on the trip the romance blooms.
It's really great, there are some internal doubts and miscommunication but overall this book was just what I needed. Sweet and spicy and FUN!
