भारत के उर्दू शायरों में निदा फ़ाज़ली आज एक महत्त्वपूर्ण नाम है। उन्होंने नयी शैली में नए विषयों पर लिखकर शायरी को एक नया मोड़ दिया है। उनके कलाम में देश की ज़िन्दगी अपने लोकरंगों के लिबास में पूरी तरह मौजूद है।

ye khamoshi kya cheez hai
The ironic thing about Hindi film industry's treatment of its writers and song writers is that they are forgotten or never paid their due but only a passing note on their death. But at the same time, the cacophonous celebration of the same celebrities( so called stars etc etc ) never gets old.
Nida Fazli, whose name I had read once in a while on various songs that I have loved over the years, passed away this morning.
I was just going through the list of songs the man has penned and to realize that many a numbers that made me come closer to poetry before I ever read poetry had his palette of words working on them.
Be it songs that in mellifluous voices ask for lovers to lose themselves and their words in silences as blank as the night...

Or, have Jagjit Singh sing an ode to hope for humanity's sake...

Or the words that would and still haunt me even though I only vaguely remember the show which had this song for opening credits. Words, memories...just the right mixture and you are transported to worlds where you never actually lived.

ऊर्दू में 'निदा' शब्द का अर्थ 'आवाज' होता है - और निदा फाजली (1938-2016) सचमुच एक लोकप्रिय, मनोरंजक और मोतबर आवाज हैं। इस पुस्तक में उनकी नज्में, गजलें और गीत, लोक संवेदना, लोकभावना और लोकनाद की धड़कन, तड़पन और ललकार लिए नजर आते हैं। इनकी शायरी के अनेक रंग हैं। उनका कलाम जिंदगी का सफर है जिसमें शहर-गांव, धूप-छांव, नाते-रिश्ते, बादल-बरसात... सब मौजूद है। एक भटकते हुए बंजारे का मंजरनामा है निदा की शायरी जो रवायत से अपनी ताकत बटोरती है और आधुनिकता से अपनी यारी निभाती है। एक शायर के साथ ही निदा फिल्म इंडस्ट्री के एक बेहतरीन गीतकार भी रहे। उनका कलाम जेहन पर खूब छाता है।

सरल भाषा की उम्दा शायरी
जो बहुत उर्दू नही जानते उन्हें भी ये समझ आती है। और जीवन के बहुत बहुत बड़ी बातो को सुंदर से २ लाइन में कह देना।।।
