Determined to not let the horrible happenings at Horn Hill House put her off solving mysteries forever, Holly Winter has just set up her own private detective agency. She’s promised herself that missing cat mysteries are the most exciting cases she’ll accept, but when a killer who delights in watching history repeat itself strikes the local Amateur Archeological Society, Holly Winter finds herself right in the middle of murder.
Holly knows it's best to leave catching the serial killer to the police but when suspicion falls on someone close to her, and then on Holly herself, she is forced to start her own investigation.
Will Holly find the psychopath before she and the rest of the Amateur Archeological Society are history?
This is the perfect winter mystery with a cozy Christmas feel! This book can be read as a standalone story and is great for curling up with by a festive fire.
Ruby Loren was born and raised in East Sussex, England. She writes cozy mysteries, paranormal mysteries, and stories about rockstars. Her books are designed to take you away to a little slice of a different world, often set in a rural corner of South East England. Full of ideas, she is always busy writing her next bestseller!
Ruby is the author of the Madigan Amos cozy mysteries, a funny, twisty series that stars zookeeper, Madigan Amos, and is set in Sussex. She has many other cozy mystery series under her belt, including the Blooming series, the Emily Haversson Mysteries, the Hayley Argent Mysteries, and the Holly Winter Mysteries, all set in England.
The themes of her books range from cunning, twisty plots, to slightly silly, humorous mysteries, designed to make you laugh. Her books are perfect for readers, who love to get a know a character, and like to look on the lighter side of life.
Ruby still lives near Brighton, in East Sussex, with her fox-fighting, bird-murdering cat, Jasper. When she’s not writing, she’s travelling the world with her musical duo, Rumours, playing electric guitar and singing lead vocals.

Again you have to love murder in less than 100 pages. You get a two for one mystery with a missing Emerald and multiple murders. Rob makes an appearance and just when you think you have him figured out you’re left with the illusion there is more than meets the eye. Holly meets George and finds herself in the middle of a potential love triangle. These quirky characters and storylines keep my attention enough to follow the series through to the end.
A funny murder mystery. With loads of interesting, if somewhat stupid characters. Well some of them are just plain crazy - like the murderer. And some of them actually have a brain they like to use. Like Holly. And some of them just are lucky, or not. This series is totally different than Ruby Loren's other murder mystery series, about Madison Amos. No zoos, no animals, shorter stories and even more funny. I received a copy and chose to review it.
Blooming #1 - A quick, fun read with bits of suspense. Armed with self-doubt in the beginning, the main character uses integrity, determination and hard work to succeed and becomes an outstanding young woman while changing the life of the people around her. This book is filled with humor and suspense. The author did a good job with this book; still needs editing. But this recent work is vastly superior over her earlier writings. Like the main character, she persevered, too. 5*
Holly Winters books 1-4 5* Ms. Loren re-edited this series. Snowed In With Death #1 - Just so silly, it's funny. A humorous whodunit filled with the egos of six private detectives and a young female amateur sleuth. Even with the disdainful PIs present, the young woman shows them up. Just perfect for a few minutes of humor filled relaxation. 5*
A Fatal Frost #2 - Two stories in one. This book picks up where Snowed In With Death stops. The perfect breakfast opens the story! Another well written, quick murder mystery with our two characters from SIWD. The plot was interesting and kept the reader's attention; great for a lunch break or a few moments of relaxation. I contacted the author to review her books after reading the ones I had in my Amazon library. 5*
Murder Beneath the Mistletoe #3 - An interesting story, a little more substantial than the first two books in this series. The characters are interesting, although one disappears without really knowing what's up with him. The ending is kinda cool, which of course is where the next book picks up. 5*
Winter's Last Victim #4 - Picks up where Murder Beneath the Mistletoe stopped. These four stories are related in more than one way. Interesting plot, the same good and bad character types and a new member to Holly's "gang". Plenty of humor, along with a couple of surprises. 5* Holly Winters books 1-4 end
The Lavender of Larch Hall - A quick, easy read. A well written suspense with a touch of romance and humor. Just perfect for a few minutes with a cuppa. 5*
Holly Winter is hired to play the piano for an archaeology Christmas get together. Just as it's time to start the meeting Holly discovers the cook has been murdered. As the day's go an and more of the members are eliminated, Holly, who has started her own detective agency, starts investigating. When she is targeted and kidnapped, her partner shows up just in time to keep her from getting killed.
This was a great second story to the first. It is a fast paced story with a good plot and several twist to keep it interesting. .
Another light, fun entry in the Holly Winter series.
I did get annoyed by some typos. The main one I can remember now is Holly referring to writing a blog post about her detecting adventures “in the second person” when she meant in third person. Errors like that are irritating but not plot-changing, thankfully.
I would’ve liked to see a story like this, where present-day murders are based on famous historical murders, be expanded into a full-length novel. I think there are plenty of ways to do it that would make a bloody good 250+ page tale.
Holly is an amateur sleuth.and piano player. When getting hired to play piano she is drawn into a murder before.she can even play the piano. The bodies are dropping faster than she can keep up. After getting kidnapped by the killer she finally puts the pieces together. It was a good quick read. Interesting but not bogged down by details. If you want a quick read that's not complicated and relaxing then this is the book for you.
When it rains, it pours! Seems that Holly has two guys vying for her attention! Should be interesting. This was a bit confusing since Holly really didn’t know much about the people in the archaeology club except for a small few. The murders were quite varied in their execution with the only tie between them being that they were all members of the club. Did NOT see that culprit at all! I enjoyed reading this!
My tenth read from author Ruby Loren and the second in The Holly Winters Mystery series, the first was so good I had to go right out & get the second and read it. I read this book in one sitting, yeah it is that good! Enjoyable & well-written, all of Ruby Loren’s writing is like a visit with an old friend. I’ll read more in this series in the future just as soon as I get them.
Another mess that Holly has walked into. It's Christmas and what's A girl to do. Solve mysteries of course. That's what Holly does best, so killer beware. Dective Holly is on the case and hot on your trail. Another Who done it, one that will keep you from putting it down till you read "The End" Good reading and Shalom
Amateur detective Holly Winter returns home from a deadly detective retreat and opens her own agency. As one of her first cases, she begins to help the Amateur Archeological Society solve their mystery. I enjoyed this shirt cozy that tells the story of how Holly begins to branch out on her own.
